Chapter 11 – I accompany Elizabeth to online class everyday
The phrase “guarding the gate” made all the present members of the Whale team look at Song Yan.
Song Yan paused, skipped the part about spaceship manufacturing, and briefly explained his teammate’s situation.
The corners of the Whale Rovers’ mouths twitched.
Someone with superb spaceship piloting skills and better combat abilities than Song Yan was guarding the gate?
They knew Song Yan’s level best. Anyone who could beat him was definitely not ordinary.
They asked, “You believed it?”
Song Yan said, “No.”
Just on the surface, since the simulation training section could have live broadcasts, his teammate’s skills would definitely make him popular and earn more money than guarding the gate, not to mention anything else.
However…… he added, “I later asked him why he didn’t do something else.”
The Whale team asked, “What did he say?”
Song Yan imitated his teammate’s tone: “He said that in his short life, he had been rich and poor, had lively times with friends, had been mocked when he was down, had been addicted of alcohol to the point of being numb, and had turned resentment into violence. Now, with the past like smoke, he just wants quiet, to seriously consider his future path. And guarding the gate allows him to empty his brain and gain inner peace. He also knows that this job is not good, and he is working hard to improve himself. When he finds the path he wants to take, he will resign.”
The Whale Rovers: “……”
Song Yan said, “There are many suspicious points about him, but no matter how outrageous he sounds, he can always find a reasonable reason.”
For example, guarding the gate, maybe he really just wants to be quiet? After all, the people in the Whale team could also do it.
He finally concluded, “I haven’t found any flaws yet. You don’t need to interfere. I know what I’m doing.”
The Whale Rovers felt a little relieved.
Their anti-fraud education over the years was not for nothing, and Song Yan was always smart, so he shouldn’t suffer any losses.
Blindly spoiling him was not advisable. Song Yan was almost an adult, and they couldn’t protect him forever. He would have to stand on his own sooner or later. Besides, Song Yan and the gate guard had only teamed up on maps and hadn’t been involved in anything else.
They said, “Then be careful.”
Song Yan responded and entered the holographic pod.
They mostly used holographic pods because they could play a game in the combat room or spaceship simulation area before and after class.
With a reliable teammate, his rating had been pulled back. And since he had mentioned spaceship training to the Whale Rovers today, he pulled his teammate to queue up for a game.
Xie Chenyu cooperated very well. He followed him out after finishing a game, and saw the mecha training area on the way, asking, “Have you thought about learning mecha?”
“I have,” Song Yan said, “but one shouldn’t be greedy. You have to take it slow. Do you know how to operate a mecha?”
“Yes,” Xie Chenyu said. “If you want to learn, I can teach you too.”
Song Yan was touched. “Brother, you’re so kind.”
He then asked, “How do you even know how to use mecha?”
Xie Chenyu thought: This little brat is at it again.
For the past half-month, the two of them had been probing each other.
He had also asked about the kid’s background, and the kid had readily provided a lot of information, similar to his “guarding the gate” story. The logic was self-consistent, but there were no concrete details.
If he asked too deeply, he would be casually deflected.
For example, once they were talking about the retired master, he asked where the master had served in the military, and the kid sighed, “Whenever I asked that before, my master would get upset, maybe there was something he couldn’t get over. Slowly, I stopped asking, so I don’t know where he retired from.”
Xie Chenyu then “empathized” and said with a look of emotion, “Could it be that he had the same experience as me? Why don’t you call him over when you have time, and I’ll chat with him and resolve his issues?”
The kid readily agreed, “Sure, my master went to sea with his comrades last week, and they said they’ll be at sea for half a year. He didn’t bring any holographic equipment, so I’ll tell him as soon as he gets back.”
Xie Chenyu figured he wouldn’t be back and could only nod with a smile.
In short, they were outwardly harmonious, but in reality, they were both assessing each other’s depths.
However, it wasn’t a complete loss. At least he had figured out the kid’s temperament.
The kid was the same as when they first met, cold to the bone and not someone who easily opened up to others.
He had diligently taught him for half a month, but the other party’s attitude hadn’t changed in the slightest, indicating that he couldn’t be bought with small favors.
But there was one thing he really liked: this kid didn’t wear a frown every day like other cold teenagers of the same age. He was obedient when he needed to be, and even though it was fake, it looked sweet.
Xie Chenyu looked at his curious expression and said, “I learned it from my bodyguard brothers. They all know how to operate mecha.”
Were those bodyguards bricks, to be moved wherever needed?
Song Yan was momentarily speechless but took the opportunity to ask, “They’re really amazing. Where are they now?”
“I’m not sure,” Xie Chenyu replied.
Song Yan was surprised. “You learned so much from them, and you’re not in contact anymore?”
Xie Chenyu became melancholic again, “We’re in contact, but the mistress who took over made three major changes. The first was to fire me, the second was to strictly forbid the bodyguards from telling me their location, lest I retaliate against him. My former boss has a lot of properties, so it’s hard to say where they are.”
Song Yan held back for a moment, then couldn’t resist: “What was the third major change?”
Xie Chenyu held back a smile, “Of course, it was running to the ex-wife to show off his power.”
Alright.
Song Yan shut up.
Xie Chenyu continued to ask, “So, do you want to learn mecha?”
Song Yan thought about it and gave up, “I’ll wait until I’ve learned spaceship manufacturing first. My brain isn’t good, and I can’t learn two new things at the same time.”
Xie Chenyu chuckled, “Who said that about you? I’ve never seen a kid with a better brain than you.”
Song Yan said, “That’s because I only focused on one subject.”
Xie Chenyu didn’t comment and took him to the newly built conference room.
After finishing their class for the day, Xie Chenyu assigned homework, chatted casually for a bit, and then logged off.
He opened the holographic pod and saw that his little uncle had come at some point and was sitting on the sofa browsing the web.
“Aren’t you supposed to be developing the company?” Di Xun looked up when he heard the movement. “The first batch of people will be in place soon. What are you doing instead of working? You seemed to be online at this time yesterday too?”
He usually didn’t meddle with his nephew, but this was an unusual period.
Xie Chenyu had to bear such great hatred from General Sende that he was really afraid that he would cause trouble again.
Xie Chenyu didn’t hide it from him, “I’m teaching a kid.”
Di Xun was stunned and extremely surprised, “Song Yan?”
Xie Chenyu said, “No, a newly acquainted kid.”
He walked over and sat down, explaining what had happened.
Di Xun listened, forgetting to close the webpage, “This isn’t the kind of alertness and reaction that an ordinary kid would have.”
Xie Chenyu laughed, “Yeah.”
But he was indeed a minor.
Because the simulation training membership card, like a gym membership, couldn’t be shared with others, and the system verified the identity every time he logged in. The minor icon given by the system itself couldn’t be fake.
Di Xun stroked his chin, “Could there be other twists and turns behind it, causing him to register the wrong birthdate, so he looks like a minor based on the date?”
Xie Chenyu said, “Unlikely. He likes to use skillful force in combat, which means he’s been training for several years. Kids have less strength, which makes sense.”
Di Xun said, “If he’s not exceptionally talented, then no matter how you analyze it, his background won’t be simple.”
What normal family would raise a child like that?
Moreover, this wasn’t something that ordinary people could cultivate. Perhaps he was a young master from a large family, perhaps a member trained by an organization, or perhaps it was due to his living environment.
For example, being born in the most chaotic Di Sha Starfield… He thought of his nephew’s grudges with the Di Sha Starfield, and his eyes darkened slightly, “Before you’re sure of his background, you must never reveal your own.”
Xie Chenyu chuckled, “Of course I know that.”
As the first batch of people arrived, Xie Chenyu shifted his attention to the company.
Song Yan continued to train, preparing for the mission a month later.
The two of them still took online classes at regular times. After passing the initial probing stage, they both understood that the other wasn’t someone who could be dealt with in the short term, so they slowed down the pace and lived in peace.
Unbeknownst to them, a month passed, and their “honeymoon period” was about to expire.
That day, Song Yan received his homework from the online class as usual and exited the holographic pod.
At this time, they were on a spaceship, and the stars outside the window were shining brightly. Seeing that he didn’t forget to go online even when he was on a mission, the people from the Whale Rovers couldn’t help but ask, “Still chatting with that gate guard?”
Song Yan hummed in response.
In fact, he only wanted to find someone to team up with to clear the map at first. He didn’t care what kind of person the other party was, as long as their skills were good and they didn’t hold him back.
But later, the combat skills and spaceship manufacturing knowledge made him feel that this teammate was unusual. Later, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get any information out of him, so he gradually became curious about this teammate.
Moreover, he could tell that his teammate was very interested in him, so he decided to calm down and lengthen the battle line, waiting for the other party to become impatient and reveal himself first.
The Whale Rovers asked, “Haven’t found any flaws yet? Need any help?”
Song Yan said, “No, I’ll do it myself.”
The Whale Rovers didn’t insist, nodded, and didn’t ask any more questions.
Half an hour later, the number of spaceships outside the window gradually increased, so they cheered up and began preparations for the mission.
Countless passers-by, media, self-media, and clout-chasing internet celebrities were gathering at this time, waiting to watch the upcoming celestial phenomenon.
Some people had been waiting for several days and gradually complained, “Hasn’t it started yet?”
“Soon, it should be in a day or two…… Holy crap, what does that spaceship want to do?”
Many people noticed it at the same time and were all shocked.
“Are they trying to go to that planet? They’re crazy!”
“Someone nearby stop them, people will die.”
“Wait, that’s the Whale’s logo on it, right?”
The surroundings were silent for a moment, and then everyone started recording or live streaming.
“Quick, quick, go around and film it!”
“I have a feeling that the Whale is going to do something big this time!”
Song Yan had just boarded the mecha at this time.
After completing the final adjustments, he quietly waited for the hatch to open, and heard a prompt from the communicator. Xie Chenyu, who had been quiet for a long time, contacted him.
Xie Chenyu was mainly worried that this love-brained person would get too carried away and forget the assembly time, so he came to remind him.
Song Yan simply gave a few words: 【I know, nagging.】
Xie Chenyu couldn’t help but reply: 【You think I want to nag? I also want time to stand still, so I never have to separate from Elizabeth!】
He thought about the material for a while and typed: 【She’s excellent, cute, and very motivated. She signed up for an online course, and I’ve been accompanying her to online classes every day. That feeling of returning to campus, you wouldn’t understand.】
Song Yan thought, who hasn’t taken online classes before, and immediately replied: 【My brother Gangzi also signed up for an online course, and I accompany him every day too. He also said he’s going to learn how to operate mecha to earn money to support me!】
After he sent it, he heard the prompt tone from the headset and added: 【Okay, he’s calling me to class, goodbye!】
