White Moonlight Smashes Steel Chapter 6

Chapter 6 – Don’t worry about it, leave it to me

The space station’s center was an oval with a strong sense of design, extending outwards into six branches, like a giant snowflake.

This was a supply station for several public routes, with a large flow of passengers coming and going, bustling like a small city.

Xie Chenyu sent Song Yan to the port hall and then returned, taking off his hat and mask used for concealment, sitting motionless in the passenger cabin.

The people on the ship were all Di Xun’s trusted subordinates, basically the ones who had watched Xie Chenyu grow up.

One of them carried a glass of juice and placed it on the table in front of him: “Young Master, not leaving?”

Xie Chenyu said: “Wait a moment first.”

The person was puzzled at first, then thought about how quickly the Young Master had returned, and vaguely guessed the reason. Leaving a pretty underage Omega alone in a crowded port was always a bit worrying.

Even knowing they weren’t lovers, he couldn’t help but gossip: “Young Master didn’t wait for him to meet up with his friend before coming back?”

Xie Chenyu originally wanted to accompany him, but the love-brained guy immediately became alert, as if he would eat Brother Gangzi.

He smiled and said, “I’m being treated as a wolf.”

After speaking, he heard his communicator ring, and looked down to see a message from Song Yan: 【I saw Brother Gangze~】

He replied with an 【En】, and said: “Let’s go.”

The spaceship slowly left the port, heading towards the nearest jump point.

Halfway there, Xie Chenyu received a communication request from Di Xun. Upon learning his ship was flying this way, he slowed down.

An hour later, Di Xun caught up, stepped in through the docking passage, and looked around: “Your little friend really left?”

Xie Chenyu had taken a shower while waiting, his hair still dripping with water, his refined and handsome demeanor carrying a hint of wildness.

He drained the juice in one go and said, “He really did.”

Thn he asked, “Didn’t you have something to deal with? Why not come with me?”

Di Xun said, “I figured, just in case you two suddenly decided to go on a honeymoon, I’d just be in the way.”

He sighed, “Why didn’t you change your mind?”

Xie Chenyu put down the cup: “You like him very much?”

Di Xun smiled: “He’s so cute. Don’t you think so?”

Xie Chenyu sized him up: “Just because of that?”

Di Xun asked back: “What else would it be for?”

Xie Chenyu glanced at him but didn’t give a clear answer.

Di Xun hadn’t come just to gossip. As the topic ended, he shot him a look and headed into the study first.

Xie Chenyu followed closely, shut the door, and sat down on the sofa, hearing his uncle get straight to the point.

“Tell me the truth,” Di Xun looked at him, “Was the matter of Mo Zhe your doing?”

Xie Chenyu said, “Yes.”

Di Xun fell silent.

It had been over three months since the Mo Zhe incident. He had gone from being a bystander to curious, then gradually suspicious. He’d wanted to contact Xie Chenyu several times but worried the communication wasn’t secure. Only now did he finally get a chance to ask face-to-face with no one around.

He had thought he was overthinking it, but it turned out it really was Xie Chenyu who did it.

The famous painter, with a face as if not from this world, looked at him with a melancholy expression, as if he might draw a memorial portrait for him at any moment.

“Nephew,” he said slowly, “I threw you into the mercenary company just so you could toughen up and learn some self-defense, not to have you team up and kill people.”

Xie Chenyu wiped away the water droplets dripping from his neck, kindly helping him recall: “I remember you told the instructor back then to train me to death, and preferably to get me out there quickly to take on some missions to earn money for you.”

Di Xun snapped, “I meant jobs like guarding doors! Who told you to go kill people?”

The more he spoke, the angrier he got, “Besides, were those even missions? Not only did you not make money, you lost quite a bit!”

Xie Chenyu tried to reassure him: “I’ll earn it back.”

Di Xun said, “You’re still thinking about earning it back? Just honestly rest!”

Xie Chenyu asked with amusement: “Didn’t you always want to give me that mercenary company to play with? Did I misunderstand?”

Di Xun was silent again.

He indeed wanted to hand over the things he had to Xie Chenyu, and had always been intentionally cultivating him. But he believed in making money steadily from the shadows, and didn’t like to see Xie Chenyu in danger.

As a result, a small, broken company that he had started on a whim for fun, Xie Chenyu had managed to cause such a big stir with.

Thinking of this, his expression darkened: “How many people were involved?”

Xie Chenyu dodged the question: “All trustworthy. Don’t worry.”

Di Xun met his gaze and knew that at this point, there was no going back. He resigned himself: “Fine, the company’s yours.Better to play it into bankruptcy than to lose your life playing around.”

Xie Chenyu chuckled: “Don’t worry. I’m planning to expand recruitment when I get back.”

Di Xun usually didn’t interfere with his decisions, but this time he still couldn’t resist: “You just caused trouble and now you’re going to publicly recruit people?”

Xie Chenyu said: “There are many companies recruiting in this world, I’m just a very ordinary one among them.”

Di Xun was speechless. He stood up and walked out, encouraging him insincerely: “Then try your best and try to catch up with the Whale Rovers.”

Xie Chenyu was speechless: “…Pick another one.”

Whale Rovers was a mercenary organization. Although strong and famous, its members liked to act on their own, a bunch of lunatics.

His style, that of a top student who liked to strategize, was completely different from theirs, and he refused to make it his goal.

Di Xun was about to open the door, hearing that tone made him want to laugh a little.

He casually gave an “En”, holding the doorknob and looking back: “I’ve thought about it, why don’t you go find the little one and fall in love instead? And then mess with that little broken company after this storm blows over.”

Xie Chenyu smiled and poured cold water on the idea: “He went to find his boyfriend.”

Di Xun was immediately surprised: “He has a boyfriend?”

Xie Chenyu said: “Yes, they have a very good relationship.”

And they’re very obsessed, he thought.

Given how obsessed that love-brained person was, by now they’d probably even forgotten what their “lover” looked like.

And indeed, Song Yan had already forgotten Xie Chenyu.

He waited for over an hour in the cafe for the spaceship that would pick him up.

“Even while rushing, we’re still late,” the newcomer said, taking his backpack. “How long have you been waiting?”

Song Yan said, “Not long.”

They weren’t originally headed this way as this was a detour made just to pick him up. Being late was understandable.

He took off his mask and stepped into the cabin, finding a spot to sit down, feeling relaxed.

Compared to Xie Chenyu’s luxurious spaceship, this one’s decor was simple. A massive whale was carved onto the cabin ceiling, its lines smooth and sharp, looking as if it could fly out at any moment.

Five or six people were standing or sitting in the cabin, and seeing him, they chuckled and teased, “Congratulations on becoming a married man.”

Song Yan ignored them and looked at the holographic glasses on the table. “Something up?”

“Old Qian’s shouting about a meeting. Probably something to do with Mo Zhe,” someone next to him handed over a pair of glasses. “It’s starting soon. Want to listen in?”

Song Yan took them and put them on.

The Mo Zhe incident had caused a huge stir—he’d eaten the melon[1]means to join in or engage in the gossip too.

The Disha Star System was the most chaotic area in the entire interstellar space. Its leader, General Sende, commanded a vast armed force and had been a local tyrant for decades.

He had lived a hard life when he was young, with many old injuries, and had only one son over the years, whom he doted on to the point of lawlessness. However, three months ago, his beloved son was killed right under his nose. The incident occured on Mo Zhe star, the son’s private planet.

The general was immediately enraged, almost overturning the entire star system.

But after round after round of investigation, nothing useful was found. Furious, he released the footage of the scene online and put up a massive bounty.

The reward had now risen to 1 billion starcoins. Even just providing a valid lead could earn 100 million. It was said he’d hired several intelligence organizations, dead set on finding the killer and grinding them to dust.

“We’re all brothers here.”

In the holographic meeting room, Old Qian asked seriously, “Brothers don’t lie to brothers. Are you all sure no one knows who did it?”

Everyone knew he loved money and had been focused on this matter recently. Looking at his state, he clearly hadn’t made any progress.

They laughed, “Nope. Give it up.”

Unlike the idle netizens, detectives, and astrologers online, they were at least professionally qualified and had channels for information: “It’s been three months now. Every list that could be gone through has been gone through once, no clues means no clues.”

“I heard that Mo Zhe Star was equipped with the most advanced weapons, with very strong defenses,” another person exclaimed. “Killed silently, retreated silently, and the scene was cleaned perfectly. I really want to know who the mastermind is.”

“That cancerous tumor harmed so many people, who knows what kind of deity they provoked, it’s purely what they deserved,” one of them said, looking at Old Qian. “Just give up, even if you do find the person and discover they were just seeking revenge, you wouldn’t hand them over for money anyway.”

Old Qian grumbled, “What if the killer’s also a bastard? Wouldn’t that be great? Cleansing the interstellar environment is everyone’s duty. Besides, since Yan Yan’s married now, I’ve got to come up with a wedding gift somehow!”

Everyone burst into laughter.

Song Yan said, “…Thanks, but no need.”

Old Qian, who had just been focused on making money, only then realized Song Yan was also present.

He suppressed his money-grubbing odor and said with a smile, “Yan Yan is here.”

Song Yan gave a quiet “Mm.” Seeing they’d moved on to other topics, he listened for a bit, then exited the meeting.

He took a shower, dried his hair, and entered the holographic cabin.

Currently, there are two types of equipment for logging into the holo-net: one is glasses, the other is the holographic cabin.

The former is used for most online activities like socializing and shopping, while the latter is more specialized, used for simulation training and competitive gaming.

Half a month ago, the spaceship simulation module updated several maps, one of which had a difficulty comparable to the “Thorn Vortex” in the real world. Song Yan had been acting before, but today he could finally try it.

He usually played solo, but the new map’s difficulty was too high, so it was only available in standard five-player mode.

Luckily, he had a high ranking, so his teammates should be in the same tier. He suppressed a bit of irritation and tapped “teleport,” appearing before his teammates.

He proactively asked: “Who wants to be captain? If no one does, I’ll take it…”

Before his voice faded, he heard a cold laugh: “How could it be you all?”

Song Yan paused and glanced around, seeing the formation quickly shift into a 1-3-1 layout inside the cockpit.

He and the teammate on the far end were using default avatars, while the three in the middle were flashy to the point of absurdity.

The three were squared off, and one of them continued sneering: “Disgusting. Can’t even log on without running into a cheating scumbag and a homewrecker.”

The two people being targeted immediately retorted: “Who are you calling a homewrecker? He only got together with me after he broke up with you!”

Great—he’d landed in a love triangle.

Song Yan had already been reluctant to play five-man mode. Now he was even more annoyed. Barely restraining his impatience, he tried to mediate: “Let’s start first, you can talk about your issues offline.”

At the same time, the teammate at the other end also spoke: “Let’s talk nicely.”

When Xie Chenyu was little, he learned painting from Di Xun and developed a habit of drawing inspiration from his surroundings.

He had been excellent since childhood, wanting to do his best even in acting. Unfortunately, there was too little material around him, and he was afraid of giving himself away if he borrowed from idol dramas. Who knew that logging on before bed would bring an unexpected gain.

He spoke to Song Yan, who still wanted to persuade them: “Don’t bother, leave it to me.”

Then, this top student who had caused a storm in the Disha Star System opened his notepad, walked towards the readily available material with a beaming smile, and decided to package it up when he got back.

After the honeymoon, he would properly tell that love-brained person the love story between him and Elizabeth.
