The more Bai Tao observed, the more sour she felt. Putting herself in Pei Shi’s shoes, she might have chosen Julie too. Despite understanding Pei Shi’s choice to some extent, Bai Tao felt even worse, both sour and deflated.
Fortunately, an opportunity to catch Pei Shi’s infidelity finally came!
“The plan for this Saturday’s outing is out—we’re going hiking in the western suburbs. Anyone interested should sign up enthusiastically.”
Since its establishment, Shilai Technology had been funding monthly activities organized by the company union, which included eating, drinking, and playing as a form of team building. To strengthen team cohesion and promote better relations among employees, President Pei always made time to participate in these monthly activities.
To Bai Tao’s surprise, this month’s activity was this Saturday!
Sure enough, the union leader was enthusiastically encouraging everyone to sign up. “President Pei will be joining us, and it’s going to exceed the union budget, so President Pei will cover the extra expenses. He even said that you can bring your family…”
This was a great opportunity for new employees to quickly integrate into the company, so Julie naturally signed up. Sun Jing was also eager to participate. After filling out the form, she glanced at Bai Tao and raised an eyebrow in surprise. “What? You’re not going?”
Bai Tao smiled modestly. “I have something important to attend to, so I won’t be going.”
Of course, she was lying; she just didn’t want to go with them.
Almost immediately, Bai Tao had a brilliant idea—the outdoor hiking event this Saturday, since both Pei Shi and Julie were going, she shouldn’t go. This would give the cheating couple plenty of opportunities, providing her with the perfect chance to catch them in the act and gather solid evidence of infidelity!
It was as if heaven was helping her!
All she needed was to bring a camera and binoculars, fully disguised, and she could quickly gather evidence of Pei Shi’s infidelity. After collecting the proof, she would leave gracefully, taking a large portion of the assets and making Pei Shi bleed and cry.
Bai Tao decided to meticulously plan her actions for Saturday. It seemed that her gaze was too focused on Pei Shi, who was sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper after dinner. Unable to resist, he looked up at her, and Bai Tao quickly averted her eyes, pretending to play with her phone naturally.
Pei Shi was the first to speak, “Do you have plans for Saturday? Why aren’t you going hiking?”
Bai Tao was taken aback but then responded in her usual coquettish tone, “I’ve been clocking in every day for research material lately. I’m so tired.” She blinked at Pei Shi. “Or is it that hubby hopes to see me every day and wants me to go hiking with him?”
“No.” Pei Shi looked a bit uncomfortable and turned his gaze away. “It’s not like I need to see you every moment.” He coughed and continued, trying to cover up, “I just thought outdoor activities are good for health. But if you’re tired, you should rest at home.”
Heh.
Bai Tao sneered inwardly but maintained a charming smile on her face. “Actually, you’ve been in meetings every day recently, and I haven’t had much chance to see you. I kind of miss you.”
I want to see how you’ll respond.
As expected, upon hearing Bai Tao’s words, Pei Shi took a sip of water, his voice becoming even more unnatural. “I’ll come home earlier.” He paused, then pretended to explain casually, “Saturday’s team activity is a tradition since Shilai Technology was founded. It’s part of the company culture, and I must set an example to uphold this tradition, so I have to go.”
“This week has indeed been busy, but there are hardly any meetings next week. I’ll be at the company more often and leave work on time.”
If Bai Tao had harbored any faint hope for Pei Shi, his current behavior dashed those hopes completely.
What does a cheating man act like? He becomes all sorts of unnatural when lying.
Considering that she and Pei Shi were not newlyweds anymore and were intimately familiar with each other, Pei Shi shouldn’t feel embarrassed saying these things to her, right? His awkward expression earlier was clearly because he had a guilty conscience.
And a tradition he had to attend to? Wasn’t it just an excuse to go on a legitimate outing with the mistress?
And pretending to invite her along? Wasn’t it just to remove any suspicion? Many criminal suspects even pretend to be bystanders and report the crime first!
And subtly promising to spend more time with her next week? Isn’t it just because he feels guilty after cheating and wants to be nicer to his unsuspecting wife?
Bai Tao felt that she had seen through Pei Shi completely.
Even so, Bai Tao felt irritated, repressed, and unhappy. Fortunately, Saturday came quickly, and Bai Tao could finally shake off her chaotic emotions and focus on her mission to catch him red-handed.
The hiking meeting point was in the suburbs, so Pei Shi set off early in the morning. As soon as he left, Bai Tao followed closely behind.
To her surprise, there were quite a few people hiking early on the weekend, which made it easier for her to blend in with the crowd, wearing a hat and holding binoculars.
Since everyone was wearing the company’s uniform sports shirt, Shilai Technology’s team was very conspicuous. To be honest, the shirt wasn’t very attractive, but Bai Tao immediately spotted Pei Shi. Somehow, even in the same clothes, Pei Shi made it look classy—fairly speaking, he looked good in anything. With his face and physique, he could make even a ten-dollar stall item look like a branded outfit.
But soon, Bai Tao’s smile faded because she saw Julie. Naturally, Julie was also wearing the company shirt and was standing next to Pei Shi, talking about something. From a distance, it looked like they were wearing couple outfits.
With her not around, Pei Shi didn’t bother hiding his relationship with Julie!
Bai Tao took out her camera and snapped several shots in a row. But even though she was on the verge of obtaining significant evidence of infidelity, she couldn’t feel happy at all.
Perhaps it was just the exhaustion from the hike making her feel breathless and chest tight.
Bai Tao shook off her unsettled emotions and continued her surveillance—
Pei Shi took one hour and ten minutes to hike from the foot of the mountain to the top. During that time, he spoke to Sun Jing twice, to Yuan Mu ten times, to some unknown colleagues three and one times respectively, and to Julie a whopping fifteen times! Three of those conversations lasted an average of ten minutes each!
If this isn’t cheating, what is?
