“Director Zheng, you’re overpraising me.” Wang Xiaoke awkwardly rubbed her nose.
“You thought I was complimenting you?” Director Zheng was so angry he nearly lost his breath. He took a deep breath and said, “Alright, I’ve realized now. This place is too small for you, I can’t afford to keep a Buddha like you here. Just go back to what you were doing, you don’t need to pack your things.”
“Director Zheng, I’m working for free. Aren’t you going to reconsider?” Wang Xiaoke cautiously probed, realizing that being fired would not sound good. Moreover, she hadn’t even been at the job for two days, and now she was being let go because of an incident. If word got out, it would be difficult for her to find another job in the future.
“Thank you, but even if you’re offering to work for free, I don’t need it,” Director Zheng firmly rejected her.
“I understand.” The last bit of hope in Wang Xiaoke’s heart shattered, and she walked away dejectedly.
“Wait a minute, come back.” Director Zheng’s voice made Wang Xiaoke feel a brief flicker of hope. “Director Zheng, have you changed your mind?” she asked eagerly.
“No, I just wanted to remind you. Tomorrow, make sure to pay for the dry cleaning and the cost of that dress to the company, or else… you know the consequences.”
Wang Xiaoke: So, money really is the root of all evil. But she really wanted to be the villain this time!
Wang Xiaoke, holding her things, walked down the street. The autumn leaves rustled as the cold wind blew, and she was feeling sentimental when suddenly, her phone rang at the most inconvenient moment.
“Wang Xiaoke, are you trying to run away from your debts again?” Chen Ze’s malicious voice came through the phone.
Wang Xiaoke quickly reacted and responded, “I’m on my way to the hospital to see you.”
“Where’s the money?” Chen Ze, sitting with his legs crossed on a brand-new sofa, looked at Wang Xiaoke who had just entered.
Wang Xiaoke didn’t have any money left. Not only had she failed to secure a job, but the company was also deep in debt. Chen Ze’s words immediately struck a sensitive nerve in her.
“I don’t have money, but I have a life to offer.” Wang Xiaoke gave in, playing dirty and saying stubbornly.
“I knew you’d try to avoid paying, but that’s fine. I still have the medical assessment report saved, so let’s go to court,” Chen Ze said calmly, continuing to eat the sliced fruit on the table, not even raising his eyebrows.
“Fine, let’s go. Who’s afraid of who? I’ve had enough of you. Have you ever seen a patient like you, so arrogant? You spent 60,000 yuan on the first day in the hospital. Why don’t you just go rob a bank?” Wang Xiaoke grew bolder as she spoke.
“Hmm, it seems like you have a lot of issues with me,” Chen Ze said, glancing at her with a calm and indifferent look in his almond-shaped eyes. “But, I’m a generous person. I don’t take things to heart when others treat me poorly. On the contrary, because I’m too kind, sometimes I even try to see things from the other person’s perspective.”
Wang Xiaoke instinctively became wary. To her, Chen Ze seemed no different from a smiling tiger. “Stop pretending, what exactly are you trying to say?”
Chen Ze thoughtfully stroked his chin with his long fingers and said calmly, “On a daily basis, my profit is around 30 million yuan. Since you’re poor, I won’t ask for much compensation for the lost time. I’ll just ask for 3 million yuan.”
Wang Xiaoke almost kneeled when she heard the amount he quoted.
“Big brother, you saw it yourself. I just got fired today, and yesterday I gave you all my savings. Even if you want money, I can’t give it to you now.”
“Well, you do have a point,” Chen Ze said, his eyes shifting as he sighed. “Fine, considering how pitiful you are, I’ll show some mercy this time. Do you know how to do housework and cook?”
“Just a little,” Wang Xiaoke replied honestly.
“Alright, that’s good enough. I happen to need a housekeeper, so you’re hired. The monthly salary is 5,000. Once you pay off my medical fees, we’ll call it even.” Chen Ze made the final decision.
