Wife, please take responsibility.
Wife, please take responsibility. Chapter 55 – Restless Thoughts

That day, Wang Xiaoke arrived at the vineyard for work as usual, but from afar, she overheard people murmuring.

“Have you heard? They say Lu Corporation is keeping the grapes from the eastern district for themselves and will no longer supply them to Wang Corporation.”

“Why did they suddenly stop supplying?”

“Isn’t it obvious? The contract expired.”

“If it expired, why didn’t the boss renew it?”

“The boss wanted to renew it, but it also depends on whether the other side agrees.”

“I heard Lu Corporation wants to expand their production line, so they need the grapes for themselves.”

“This is the prime season for winemaking. Even if they didn’t want to supply us, they could’ve given us some notice. Canceling the supply just like that—where are we supposed to find a suitable grape supplier now? What’s Lu Corporation playing at? Isn’t this daylight robbery?”

“Exactly! We just signed a massive wine order with Chen Corporation. If we fail to deliver on time, the penalty for breach of contract alone could ruin Wang Group.”

“Our boss trusted Lu Corporation because of their past relationship and didn’t see this coming. Who could’ve imagined that a former partner we once helped would stab us in the back like this? It’s truly unforeseeable,” someone sighed.

“Right, it’s outrageous. Back when they couldn’t sell their wine, it was our boss who used his channels to help them move their stock. And now they’re repaying us with betrayal,” another person said indignantly.

“So, what do we do now? The Chen Corporation contract clearly states they need newly made wine from this year. The total amount of grapes we have is far from enough to meet the order’s requirements.”

“The boss is already reaching out to other grape suppliers. All we can do now is wait for results.”

“Let’s hope for good news.”

As Wang Xiaoke listened to the discussions, she pieced together the situation. No wonder her father had been looking so troubled lately.

Feeling worried, she decided to call Wang Chengyao. On the other end, his voice was as calm as ever, betraying no sign of distress.

“What’s wrong, Xiaoke? Is something not going well at work?”

“Dad, Wang Group is facing such a big issue, and you didn’t even tell me? I only found out from the gossip at the vineyard!” she complained.

“This is something your dad can handle. There’s no need for a child like you to worry about it. Knowing about it would only add to your stress unnecessarily,” he replied.

Sensing her concern, Wang Chengyao comforted her, “Don’t overthink it. Just focus on your work. I’m already in contact with a few other grape suppliers, and I’m handling it.”

“Alright, I still have things to take care of here. Once I have an update, I’ll let you know immediately, okay?”

Hearing this, Wang Xiaoke realized there wasn’t much she could do to help. She could only hope that her father would find a good solution.

After hanging up, Wang Xiaoke still felt uneasy. She had a nagging feeling that something was about to happen, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Distracted and restless, she muddled through the entire day without accomplishing anything.
