Wife, please take responsibility.
Wife, please take responsibility. Chapter 57 – Unable to Wake Up

“Doctor, what’s wrong with my dad?” Wang Xiaoke’s eyes were red as she turned to the doctor, her voice filled with unease.

“The patient has sustained multiple organ injuries, but the most severe damage is concentrated in the head. Ms. Wang, you should prepare yourself mentally for the worst,” the doctor said.

“What do you mean by that?” Wang Xiaoke couldn’t fully grasp his meaning.

The doctor, accustomed to dealing with distressed families, sighed before continuing, “The patient suffered a severe head injury, likely affecting the brain and nerves. The chances of him waking up are extremely slim.”

“How could this happen?” Feng Jin, standing nearby, widened her eyes in disbelief, covering her mouth with her hand.

Wang Xiaoke’s body swayed slightly, but she managed to steady herself, suppressing the dizziness. She bit her lip and forced herself to ask, “Doctor, what’s the worst-case scenario?”

“That would be what people commonly refer to as a coma.”

The doctor’s words were like a thunderbolt, shattering all of Wang Xiaoke’s composure.

“Doctor, please save my dad! No matter how much it costs, we’re willing to pay,” Wang Xiaoke clung tightly to the doctor’s sleeve, pleading desperately.

“I’m sorry, miss. We’ve done everything we can.” The doctor gently pried her hand away, looking troubled.

After a brief hesitation, he added some words of comfort: “There have been rare cases in medical history where patients in this condition have woken up. However, it requires tremendous patience, love, and companionship from the family. That’s all I can say. The rest is up to you and your family’s efforts.”

Wang Xiaoke collapsed onto the cold hospital floor. Her family’s sole pillar of support had fallen, and to her, it felt like the sky had caved in. Her entire world was enveloped in darkness.

For two whole days and nights, Wang Xiaoke sat silently by her father’s bedside, not saying a word.

She still couldn’t believe it. Could her father really remain in this state forever? Would he never wake up again? She kept asking herself.

No, he’s just tired, she thought. Once he’s rested enough, everything will return to normal.

Feng Jin, after visiting on the day of the accident, hired a caretaker for Wang Chengyao but disappeared in the following days. However, Wang Xiaoke had no energy to think about her absence.

That day, Su Man called Wang Xiaoke several times. At first, there was no answer. By the fifth call, just as Su Man was ready to storm over to Wang Xiaoke’s house and drag her out for a scolding, the call was finally answered.

“Wang Xiaoke! Do you have a death wish? How dare you not answer my calls?” Su Man yelled angrily over the phone.

“Su Man… my dad was in a car accident,” Wang Xiaoke said in a hoarse voice.

Though Su Man had grown up with Wang Xiaoke, she was far more mature in handling situations.

“This is such a big deal. Why are you only telling me now? How’s Uncle doing? Has the case been filed?”

“Never mind, I’m coming to see you right now. Send me the address,” Su Man said before hanging up, then rushed to the hospital without delay.
