Chapter 16 Why Cry

Shen Jiahe also echoed, “Come on, Yifei, we are all family, don’t be shy, just have fun.”

In fact, Ye Yifei knows how to play dice, but tonight with Shen Yan here, she couldn’t relax completely. She couldn’t appear too indulgent, so she remained quiet.

Ye Yifei picked up the dice, pretending to hesitate on how to proceed.

Jiang Chuan, with a good temper, began to teach her how to roll the dice step by step, and a few minutes later, Ye Yifei indicated that she understood.

Midway through the game, Gu Bei stood up, “Yan, need to go to the restroom?”

“Okay.” Shen Yan nodded, picked up his phone from the table, and left his seat.

While shaking the dice in her hand, Ye Yifei watched Shen Yan’s departing figure.

“Don’t stare, it’s your turn to call.” Jiang Chuan urged her.

This bar was opened by Gu Bei out of boredom.

Gu Bei’s family is in the entertainment industry, and in Haicheng, they are considered top-notch. Their main business includes KTVs, bars, nightclubs, and other entertainment venues with high consumption, mostly frequented by wealthy businessmen, socialites, or celebrities.

On the corridor to the restroom, Shen Yan leaned against the wall smoking, a hint of weariness between his brows. Amidst the swirling smoke, Shen Yan was looking down at his phone.

He just saw a missed call from Su Yu.

“Yan, are your parents really traveling the world, leaving Yehes to your management?” Gu Bei glanced at Shen Yan and asked.

Shen Yan’s family is in real estate, and Yehes Group focuses on high-quality real estate development, ranking top in Haicheng. Many agents are eager to cooperate with them, but Yehes Group is selective in choosing partners, so even though many agents want to collaborate, they have no choice.

Shen Yan nodded, thinking about how to reply to Su Yu on WeChat.

His fingers lightly tapped on the screen, and finally, he hit send.

Gu Bei noticed Shen Yan’s distraction, threw his cigarette butt, walked over, and peeked at Shen Yan’s phone screen, “Who are you chatting with? You’re ignoring me.”

Shen Yan calmly turned off the screen of his phone, then raised his eyes to glance at Gu Bei indifferently, “No one, just a friend.”

“Is it a boyfriend or a girlfriend?” Gu Bei started gossiping.

“None of your business.” Shen Yan coldly glanced at Gu Bei, then walked to the trash can, threw the cigarette butt in, and left the restroom corridor without paying further attention to Gu Bei.

Ye Yifei was about to go crazy playing with Jiang Chuan. When she saw Shen Yan return, she quickly restrained herself.

Shen Yan picked up his coat from the seat, leaned close to Shen Jiahe’s ear, and said in a low voice, “Let Gu Bei take you home later. I have something to deal with. Message me when you get home.”

“Leaving so early, such a mood killer.” Shen Jiahe pouted unhappily, looking at Shen Yan somewhat disappointed.

“Be good, I’ll take you to play something else next time.”

Shen Yan reached out his slender and attractive fingers, gently stroked Shen Jiahe’s soft hair, his voice becoming slightly gentler.

“Okay then.”

Shen Yan turned around, and Shen Jiahe secretly rolled her eyes.

He and Jiang Chuan also exchanged a signal.

Seeing Shen Yan holding his coat, Gu Bei knew he was leaving but still stopped him for a moment, “Where are you going?”

“I have something unfinished. You take Jiahe home later.”

Gu Bei teased, “Late at night, do you have a date with a woman?”

“Get lost!” Shen Yan didn’t bother to argue with Gu Bei, gave him a kick, and walked out decisively.

Ye Yifei heard Gu Bei’s words, her eyes darkened slightly. She didn’t have the courage to ask, so she continued to lower her head, playing with the dice cup in her hands.

She shook the dice faster and faster, chatting with Jiang Chuan absentmindedly.

The message Shen Yan sent out received no reply, which made him inexplicably restless. Sitting in the back seat of the car, he lit another cigarette and took a deep drag.

He glanced at the time, it was exactly midnight. Had she fallen asleep? Or was she angry?

“Driver, please drive faster,” Shen Yan said to the driver in the front seat.

His voice still held a hint of anxiety.

Upon hearing this, the driver pressed the accelerator harder, and the car gradually picked up speed, swiftly heading towards the apartment where Su Yu lived in the early morning.

Shen Yan got out of the car, first raising his head to look at Su Yu’s window. Seeing the light still on inside, the anxiety in his heart eased slightly.

Su Yu, drunk, had cried herself to sleep on the sofa, completely unaware that Shen Yan had replied to her message.

Shen Yan went upstairs and politely pressed the doorbell of Su Yu’s apartment.

He pressed the doorbell for a long time, but there was no response. He reached out and knocked a few times, still no movement.

Shen Yan frowned, took out his phone and dialed Su Yu’s voice call, but no one answered after several tries.

What did this mean? Was she angry that he hadn’t replied to her message promptly?

Just as Shen Yan was about to knock on the door again, the door suddenly opened.

What met Shen Yan’s eyes was a tear-streaked face. Su Yu’s hair was messy, and her face was full of tears.

A flash of surprise crossed Shen Yan’s eyes, “What’s wrong?”

Su Yu didn’t answer his question but asked instead, “How did you get here?”

“Didn’t I tell you I’d come over tonight? I just texted you, didn’t you see it?” Shen Yan explained.

He stepped into the room, closing the door behind him, and changed his shoes at the entrance.

“I just fell asleep.”

Su Yu’s voice was slightly hoarse from crying.

Hearing her voice, Shen Yan couldn’t help but frown. He walked in front of Su Yu, lowered his eyes to look at her, “Why are you crying?”

He wiped the remaining tears from the corners of Su Yu’s eyes.

“No reason, I just suddenly felt like crying.” Su Yu looked up, meeting Shen Yan’s beautiful peach blossom eyes, and felt inexplicably wronged.

She didn’t know if it was because she sent a message and Shen Yan didn’t reply promptly, or because she saw him suddenly appear in front of her, but Su Yu felt an indescribable feeling in her heart, a feeling of being wronged and hurt.

“Why are you crying?” Shen Yan asked again, his tone even gentler than before.

There was a hint of pampering in his voice, even he himself didn’t notice it.

“Nothing, I’m just in a bad mood.”

Su Yu lowered her eyes, avoiding Shen Yan’s gaze. She was afraid that if she stared at these eyes for too long, she would fall for him.

Su Yu turned to go to the bathroom to wash her face and clear her head, but she had only taken two steps when her wrist was tightly grasped by Shen Yan. Then, she was pulled into his embrace.

Shen Yan lowered his head and kissed her lips. Su Yu was forced to tilt her head back, enduring his domineering and forceful kiss.
