Chapter 21 Bubble Sound
The two of them bantered a bit when they met, feeling much more relaxed inside.
After eating, seeing it was still early, Su Yu asked, “Do you want to go for some sweet soup?”
“Which place?”
“The one we used to frequent when we were in school.”
Mu Ran took a sip of tea to refresh herself, stood up, “It’s been so long, is that shop still open?”
Su Yu picked up the car keys and headed out, “Yes, it’s open, but the shop has been renovated.”
Mu Ran followed her out of the food stall.
The sweet soup shop was not far from the food stall, just a few minutes’ drive away.
The shop was located opposite their school, a very ordinary one-story building that looked old from the outside but had been renovated inside.
With a shop area of about ten square meters, there were already some students who had just finished class gathered at the entrance, chatting in groups of three or five, waiting for their sweet soup to be packed.
Su Yu pulled Mu Ran inside and called out to the busy shop owner, “Auntie, I’d like two bowls of shaved ice with herbal jelly.”
The shop owner looked up, saw Su Yu, and smiled, “Little Su, you’re here again.”
Su Yu said, “Yes, this is my friend, we used to come here often when we were in school.”
Su Yu would come here to have sweet soup in her spare time after work, and the shop owner had become familiar with her frequent visits.
The shop owner’s smile widened, “Then please have a seat and wait for a moment, it’ll be ready soon.”
Mu Ran looked around at this sweet soup shop they used to frequent, which was no longer the same. The interior decorations had been replaced with new ones, but the exterior still retained its original appearance.
In those years, during the summer, the entrance of this shop would always be crowded, and the sweet soup was indeed delicious, not only popular among students but also favored by many adults.
In no time, the shop owner came out with two bowls of sweet soup.
“Thank you, Auntie,” Su Yu thanked with a smile.
The shop owner nodded with a smile and went back to work.
“Try it quickly, see if it still tastes the same as before,” Su Yu pushed the sweet soup closer to Mu Ran.
Mu Ran took a sip, and the familiar taste spread in her mouth. She couldn’t help but sigh, “Yes, it’s still the same taste, just like before.”
The two of them happily drank the sweet soup, chatting about the past, reminiscing about the funny and embarrassing moments of their school days.
Su Yu’s phone on the table lit up with a WeChat message from Shen Yan. Su Yu reached out and opened it.
He asked if she had been to Yanhe today.
Shen Yan always asked like this, and Su Yu knew he had seen her.
She didn’t deny it and replied with an “okay.”
Immediately after, Shen Yan sent a voice message.
Su Yu glanced at Mu Ran, who was busy eating sweet soup with her head down, and in the end, she didn’t pick up the phone to listen. She long-pressed the voice message, intending to transcribe it into text, but her hand slipped, and it played out loud.
“Is it for the interview…”
A man’s voice with a bubble-like tone suddenly sounded.
…Su Yu panicked and clicked out of the conversation with Shen Yan.
Mu Ran suddenly looked up, staring straight at Su Yu, “Who is it, who is it? Such a nice voice!”
Su Yu quickly lowered her head and took a sip of sweet soup to hide her panic.
“No one, just a friend, you don’t need to worry,” Su Yu replied casually.
Mu Ran pressed on, “What friend? Have I met them? When did you have a friend with such a nice voice? Introduce me quickly.”
Mu Ran’s gossip heart was activated again.
Su Yu continued to drink her sweet soup, “Just a friend I’m not very close with.”
She and Shen Yan were indeed not close, just familiar from a few car rides.
“If you’re not close, then introduce them to me. I want to get to know them, not for anything else, just for that deep bubble-like voice. Just listening to that voice, my ears are pregnant.”
Mu Ran poked the bowl of sweet soup with a spoon as she spoke.
Su Yu looked up, amused, and said to her, “You can’t even handle your contacts on WeChat, and now you’re thinking about others.”
Mu Ran said, “Having one more friend is not bad, if his voice can charm me every day, my heart will really melt.”
Su Yu chuckled, “You’re just causing trouble for others.”
“You haven’t introduced me yet, how am I causing trouble? Maybe if we hit it off.”
Su Yu couldn’t help but laugh, “His voice is nice, but his appearance is hard to describe, do you want to?”
Mu Ran’s hand holding the spoon paused for a second, then she immediately changed her expression, “Then forget it.”
Seeing her change her expression so quickly, Su Yu found it particularly amusing and teased her back, “Don’t, you didn’t say that just now. If you really want to meet, I can arrange for you to meet.”
Mu Ran waved her hand, “No, you keep it.”
Between voice and looks, she still chose looks. After all, she was a face-value enthusiast.
Su Yu was thinking, what if Mu Ran knew Shen Yan was a super handsome man?
However, she didn’t plan to tell her.
Because, she herself didn’t understand what was going on between her and Shen Yan. If she really wanted to introduce them, she hoped it would be in a different capacity.
After finishing their sweet soup, Su Yu drove Mu Ran back to the hotel.
As soon as Mu Ran got out of the car, Shen Yan’s voice call came through. Su Yu hesitated for a moment before answering.
“Hello.” Su Yu took the initiative to speak in a calm tone.
“Where are you?” Shen Yan asked.
Su Yu was just about to say she was at home when Shen Yan cut her off, “Don’t tell me you’re at home, I’m downstairs at your place right now.”
He waited for a long time for a reply to his message but didn’t get one, so he drove to the apartment where Su Yu lived.
Like last time, he first looked up at her house, no lights were on. He went upstairs and knocked on the door, but no one answered for a long time.
He guessed that Su Yu probably hadn’t come home yet. He went downstairs and looked around, but he didn’t see Su Yu’s car.
Su Yu: “I’m on North Street, do you need something?”
He had come to her house looking for her, she couldn’t continue to lie.
“I’ll send you a location, come to where I am, it’s on North Street.”
Su Yu’s mind was thinking about refusing, but her mouth unconsciously answered, “Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, Su Yu followed the location Shen Yan sent and quickly found her way there.
She sat in the car and waited for about ten minutes before Shen Yan arrived.
Shen Yan sent a WeChat message asking her to get out of the car and wait for him at the entrance of the New World Center.
Shen Yan had a cigarette dangling from his lips, one hand in his pocket, and he walked slowly towards Su Yu.
Su Yu just turned her head and noticed the familiar figure.
Under the dim streetlights, Shen Yan’s tall and straight figure was stretched out long and long. The collar of his black shirt was unbuttoned a few buttons, and the silver chain around his neck flashed silver light from time to time.
He was getting closer and closer to her, and that cold face was gradually becoming clearer in her vision.
When he was one meter away from her, Shen Yan stopped, took the cigarette from his lips, put it out, threw it in the trash can, and then took another step, slowly walking towards her.
Shen Yan’s tall figure instantly blocked the light in front of Su Yu. She looked up, her eyes falling on Shen Yan’s cold face.
Shen Yan stopped in front of her, lowered his eyes, his black eyes staring straight at her, “Are you cold?”
