Torrential rain poured down, creating a loud and dangerous noise on the ground. The river water splashed and slapped, adding vitality to the earth but also raising their concerns.
Flynn watched quietly as Su Ge walked towards his defensive line. Suddenly, he felt an unprecedented chill, a desire to do something.
Whether it was his experience, his education, or everything he had gone through in his life, it all reverberated in his mind, like creatures trying to burst out, constantly urging him to do something. But at this moment, Flynn seemed petrified, a chilling sensation piercing through his heart.
That chilling sensation seemed to be called shame, yet also pride.
Perhaps only when one’s life is seriously threatened can they truly feel things they don’t normally feel.
The white curtain of rain enveloped everyone which reduced the visibility. It became lower and lower.
Su Ge had even struggled to come down from the log bridge. When her feet touched the ground, a focused and almost piercing gaze fell upon her.
In fact, she had felt this gaze even while still on the bridge. However, at that time, all her attention was focused on the path beneath her feet, for underneath the slippery logs lay the swift river, and nothing was more important than safety. But when she relaxed her mind, the previously ignored gaze suddenly became prominent.
Following that unmistakable gaze, Su Ge saw Flynn standing in the pouring rain, looking very disheveled.
In truth, everyone present was disheveled, but Su Ge saw something different amidst the chaos, such as an incredulous expression and even more disheveled emotions. Most importantly, when their eyes met unabashedly, Su Ge saw Flynn’s gaze seemingly panicked, evading to the side.
Then, to Su Ge’s astonishment, the high and mighty Flynn, the one who had been most discriminatory towards her, the one who even felt contaminated speaking to her, lowered his head under her gaze.
If there was no surprise, it would be false, as in Su Ge’s mind, Flynn was probably equated to a stinky and hard stone. The fact that this person would bow to her was simply unbelievable. She thought she might have been mistaken and stared at Flynn earnestly for a moment, only to see Flynn approaching her.
At this moment, there weren’t many people around Su Ge. There were teammates who came to rescue, there was Nalita, who was crying and laughing, Meng who was hugged by Li Ya, Zigmadar who was pushed next to him, and even Saro who was smiling awkwardly at her.
Except Flynn, because Flynn was walking towards her.
The distance between them wasn’t much, and soon Flynn stood in front of her.
Su Ge looked at Flynn seriously and attentively, a bit unsure of what this person’s intention was. Was he coming to thank her for saving him like everyone else? Why didn’t it seem like it?
Before Su Ge could figure out what the other party was up to, she saw Flynn suddenly bend down, performing a respectful gesture towards her, a gesture commonly used in the interstellar alliance. His posture was low, his demeanor humble, even his voice almost drowned out by the heavy rain.
Su Ge could faintly hear him say, “I’m sorry, Su Ge. I feel ashamed of my previous arrogance and pride. I offer you my sincerest apology, hoping you can accept it.”
After staring at him seriously for a few seconds, Su Ge suddenly curled her lips, a hint of mockery appearing at the corner of her mouth. “What if I say I don’t accept?”
To be honest, the extraterrestrials around them knew that these two didn’t get along. Although they firmly took sides, it was evident that everyone hoped they could reconcile and coexist peacefully.
Therefore, at the moment when Flynn apologized sincerely, everyone’s heart’s stone fell, thinking that this matter should be over with Flynn’s apology. But no one expected the real shock to come from Su Ge.
Before this moment, nobody had considered that Su Ge might refuse.
Their surprised expressions all fell into Su Ge’s eyes. She just pursed her lips. Did the other party apologize, and she was supposed to accept it, to say it’s okay?
No, she couldn’t do it. She was the one being discriminated against. She just didn’t want to accept such an apology. There weren’t many grand reasons, just the victim’s unwillingness to compromise.
Did they expect her to swallow her pride?
Her gaze was filled with strong provocation, clearly indicating she wasn’t going to give Flynn his way out.
Su Ge thought Flynn would get angry, explode in rage, or even confront her again, but he didn’t. He just straightened up, looked at her with a peaceful smile, nodded, “You don’t have to accept it, that’s your freedom. I just want to apologize for my inappropriate behavior and express sincere gratitude for what you did today. Thank you for coming to rescue all of us.”
With that, he thanked her again, as if he didn’t take Su Ge’s provocation to heart at all. This actually surprised Su Ge. How could this alien not play by the rules!
I won’t accept it. Aren’t you supposed to be very angry, completely tearing me apart, then continuing to mock me, continuing to look down on me, continuing to stand on the moral high ground to condemn me? As a victim from the Class V Planet, I should rise up at this moment and beat you up again, beat you until you acknowledge your fault, only then can we stand together and talk about reconciliation, right?
But now you’re just soft, you’re backing down, what do you want me to do?
Your attitude right now makes it very difficult for me to continue the act behind you, huh. ╮(╯ _╰ )╭
On the way back, the heavy rain seemed to increase a bit. If it was only pouring down in buckets before, now it’s like someone is pouring it out with a basin, and it’s a bath basin at that.
Such heavy rain pouring down on a person is no longer just a matter of embarrassment, it’s simply unbearable, especially for a small race like Glaki, who are struggling to move forward in the heavy rain, not to mention taking a step, even lifting his legs is impossible. Even a sudden shake and a downpour directly knocked him to the ground.
If it weren’t for Saro on the side who promptly lifted him up, he might have already merged closely with the ground.
“Thank you.” Glaki, who was lifted up, gasped heavily, looking a bit dazed.
Su Ge wiped her face with her hand, but more rain immediately poured down. She struggled to open her eyes, took out the rope, patted Zigmadar’s hand with it, and shouted loudly, “You go to the front and lead the way! Walk slowly!”
The rain was too heavy.
Zigmadar didn’t actually hear clearly what Su Ge was saying, but he understood her meaning. He tightly grasped the rope in his hand, nodded vigorously at her, and, as Su Ge instructed, made an “OK” gesture to her.
Those who came with Su Ge knew what this meant, so there was no need for individual arrangements; they all tightly held onto the rope.
Last time, Rong Shi walked at the end because he was the strongest and most skilled among all aliens. But apart from Rong Shi, when it comes to fighting skills and balance, only Su Ge matches up. Additionally, she possesses extensive wilderness survival skills. So, this time, she willingly took the back position to reinforce the line.
Flynn stood in front of Su Ge. When he saw her at the back, he turned around, wiped the water off his face, and said loudly, “I’ll hold the back!”
Su Ge glanced at him and shook her head firmly, “You’re too weak.”
Flynn was slightly stunned, then remembered his last encounter with Su Ge. This seemingly slender Earth female had indeed rendered him completely helpless in their previous fight. He couldn’t help but smile bitterly, but still said, “I’ll be in the front, call me if you need anything!”
Su Ge gazed steadily at Flynn. Honestly, the change in this alien was quite notable, and she felt a subtle, indescribable feeling of acceptance wash over her.
Although this subtlety made her feel a bit uncomfortable, Su Ge didn’t refuse Flynn. Under the current adverse weather conditions, it wasn’t the time for pettiness. Everyone had to work hard to stick together for safety.
So, she nodded generously, “Okay.”
Zigmadar shouted something at the front. Su Ge at the back didn’t hear clearly, but they all tightened the rope in their hands.
Su Ge looked up at the sky, trying to see when this pouring rain would stop, but she couldn’t see anything as the rain poured down, making it impossible to even open her eyes.
With visibility reduced to only two or three meters within the curtain of rain, everyone tightly held onto the rope and slowly walked back along the path they came from.
The straight-line distance from where they found Flynn and the others back to the place where they met Rong Shi wasn’t far, but the rain was too heavy now. It continuously washed the soil into the nearby ditches, and there were constant collapses in the adjacent ditches. It didn’t look safe.
Moreover, there were two single-log bridges along the way.
When Su Ge and the others came, these two single-log bridges were already very slippery and dangerous. Now with the heavier rain, the danger level seemed even higher.
As they walked, Su Ge observed the surroundings, her brows tightly furrowed.
This place was too unsafe.
Not only here, even the place where she and Rong Shi agreed to meet wasn’t safe. She felt the best way now was to converge quickly and leave this place, whether going to the wilderness or the forest. In any case, they couldn’t stay here any longer.
Zigmadar seemed to sense Su Ge’s anxiety, and he also sped up his pace. They soon reached the second single-log bridge.
These were two single-log bridges made of logs, placed on both sides of a deep ditch. When they came, the water in the ditch was rapid, but the width of the ditch was relatively narrow.
But now, after only a short while, maybe an hour at most, the width of the ditch had widened considerably due to the river water, and the sides of the single-log bridges barely held together.
Zigmadar glanced at the deep ditch, feeling a bit uneasy. He stopped in his tracks, and even Sela, who was behind him, was startled by the width. “What should we do? Do we have to cross?” he asked.
At this moment, Zigamadar’s heart felt like he fetched fifteen buckets of water, in a state of confusion. If there were any other choice, he certainly wouldn’t want to go this way, but if he didn’t, he feared he might lose the chance to go anywhere at all soon.
With this in mind, Zigamadar gritted his teeth fiercely and nodded heavily to Sela, “Follow me closely, let’s finish this quickly!”
Whatever Zigamadar could think of, Sela naturally thought of too. He took a deep breath, nodded, then turned to the people behind him, saying, “Just keep moving forward, don’t stop for anything.”
Those behind relayed the message one after another, and by the time it reached Su Ge, the group had already been on the move.
Those who initially relayed the message didn’t understand why they had to say that, but when they stood in front of the rope bridge and saw the raging river below, hardly there’s no one who didn’t feel weak in the knees.
Nalita stood in front of Flynn, her eyes fixed on the river, feeling her vision blur and her head spin. Her body involuntarily trembled as she took a step back, but Flynn caught her arm and said, “Keep going.”
Nalita turned to Flynn, instinctively shaking her head, “No, I can’t. It’s too scary!”
“Flynn’s face was pale. Despite everyone being weak from the prolonged exposure to rain, his tone was resolute and unquestionable.
Under his compelling tone, Nalita, who had been trembling with fear, seemed to gather a bit of courage. She took a deep breath, lifted her head, and looked ahead, where Glaki was.
Seeing Glaki’s short figure steadily moving forward, Nalita seemed to gain a bit more courage. Step by step, she began to move her feet.
The two logs had been soaked by the rain for a long time and it becomes extremely slippery. One had to be extremely cautious while walking. Nalita held her breath and moved forward slowly, not knowing how long she had been walking until she finally saw the end ahead. Her eyes reddened, tears almost streaming down her face.
Just then, she suddenly heard a loud noise, and almost instinctively, she turned to look in the direction of the sound.
What she saw was terrifying. Upon hearing the noise, Flynn, who was behind Nalita, and Su Ge behind him, also looked towards the source of the sound.
Su Ge’s pupils suddenly contracted.
Amidst the relentless downpour, the already softened mountain wall finally couldn’t hold on any longer and began to collapse.
In truth, it had been collapsing all along, but previously, the collapses had been relatively minor, mostly consisting of small, fragmented stones. However, this time, massive boulders, enough to fill ten cubic meters, directly plummeted from the mountainside.
As they crashed into the already rough river, they quickly changed the direction of the water, making big waves and powerful currents in the backflow bay.
The waves surged several meters high, and when they subsided, much of the sandy banks that had been there were gone without a trace.
As for the exceptionally fierce surge, it rushed toward both sides of the riverbank, directly knocking down many of the already shaky sand and gravel, including the trench they were standing in.
The fierce waves made the already broad trench even wider on both sides. What’s scarier is that the soil on the other side, where there were no people, made a huge noise when the tide hit it. Then, the loose soil, along with the stones that were holding up the logs, fell into the river without making a single ripple.
The two logs, barely held up by the stones and sand, seemed to lose their last support and fulfilled their purpose. After a brief moment of resistance, they followed the path of the sand and stones before them, rolling down with the rush of the water.
As the makeshift bridge rolled down, both the aliens who had crossed it and those who hadn’t erupted into screams of horror. Zigamadar, who was at the forefront, just paused for a moment before shouting, “Quick, grab the rope!”
The whole incident happened too quickly, too fast for anyone to react.
Suddenly, Su Ge felt a void beneath her feet, a sensation of weightlessness rushing over her. But she tightened her grip on the rope, and despite that, her body arced through the air, barely landing on the water’s surface.
Above her was Flynn, who was also tightly holding onto the rope, gasping heavily. His heart pounded rapidly, as if it was about to leap out of his chest. He didn’t even dare to think back on what had just happened; he just felt that his legs were weak up to this point.
And above Flynn, Nalita had been screaming continuously since the bridge collapsed. One hand grabbed onto the rope, while the other flailed wildly in the rain, like a drowning animal.
Glaki was lucky when the rope bridge collapsed; he landed safely on solid ground. Though Nalita pulled him down with the rope, Abing acted fast and grabbed his clothes, pulling him to safety. But this made Nalita’s grip on the rope shake violently.
Nalita was already extremely scared. She even hesitated as she crossed the bridge. Now, with this new crisis unfolding, she was completely drained of strength and could only instinctively cling to the rope. Then, screaming in terror as Glaki was pulled up by Abing, the rope shook violently once more, and she couldn’t hold onto it any longer.
She could only scream in despair, “No!”
Nalita’s scream was piercing. Despite the noisy rain, Su Ge could still hear it clearly. She steadied herself, looked up, intending to see what had caused Nalita to scream like that. Just then, she saw a figure falling from above, about to plunge into the river.
In this weather, with such turbulent waters, even if it were a boulder falling in, it would instantly vanish. Su Ge didn’t hesitate for a moment. Almost instinctively, she gathered her strength, allowing her body to seemingly defy gravity and stand on the water’s surface. Then, she rushed towards the falling figure.
She grabbed the rope, with Flynn still hanging onto it. When Su Ge pulled sharply, Flynn felt like a leaf in the autumn wind, about to be blown away. He didn’t scream like Nalita, but he bit his tongue hard to keep himself from further embarrassment.
Su Ge’s actions were swift, so swift that those standing on the shore barely had time to react. They saw someone suddenly standing on the turbulent river’s surface and rushing towards Nalita. In the blink of an eye, Su Ge reached out and grabbed Nalita’s waist.
Just as Su Ge had grabbed Nalita, she felt the rope slipping through her hands. She looked back and saw that Flynn, hanging on the rope, was about to fall into the river too.
Her eyes widened, and she bit her tongue hard, almost bursting out a curse.
Clearly, Su Ge’s instincts were faster than her cursing reflex. At this moment, with one hand holding Nalita, she kicked the muddy bank beside her with force, propelling herself up. Unfortunately, besides causing a large amount of loose soil to fall, it didn’t give Su Ge much leverage.
Nevertheless, she managed to reach out and kick Flynn in the buttocks, sending him flying into the air.
But Su Ge didn’t stop there. She swung the rope again, kicked the loose soil on the bank, and propelled herself up once more, like kicking a football, and directly kicked Flynn, who was in midair, onto the riverbank.
Saro had been anxiously watching the situation below. He only saw something flying up and instinctively reached out to catch it, but the force pushed him back several steps, and he fell to the ground.
Only then did he see clearly that it was Flynn. But Flynn was not in good shape either. His face was pale, his whole body curled up, stiff, and trembling.
“F-Flynn, are you alright?” Saro was startled by Flynn’s appearance and quickly asked.
Flynn gasped for air, coughing violently. He shook his head continuously while coughing, and he grabbed Saro’s wrist tightly, intermittently saying, “Quick! Go check on Su Ge!”
