At the end of the year, the hospital was very busy, and Meng Siyi seemed to have worked several night shifts in a row, turning his schedule upside down.
Even though they were currently discussing their wedding, the time they spent together was still limited.
Most of their conversations revolved around the wedding process and specific details.
Their chat history was simple and straightforward; it didn’t feel like that of an engaged couple but more like partners planning an upcoming wedding together.
It was as if they were simply fulfilling a prearranged task—there were no dreams or fantasies, just a methodical approach. There was no excitement or longing, but it wasn’t unpleasant either.
In the midst of her busy schedule, Zhu Shiyu would occasionally stop her work and gaze out the window. The table was strewn with various styles of wedding candies, which had been sent by the wedding planning company. She had just unwrapped one to try; the bright red candy wrapper contained a mango-flavored sweet, leaving a sticky sweetness on her lips.
She would sometimes find herself lost in thought, instinctively picturing scenes from the wedding in her mind.
Meng Siyi must look great in a suit; he has a tall and upright figure, and his well-defined features give him a naturally distinguished aura.
Even in a crowded setting, he would be able to navigate everything with ease, managing every detail effortlessly.
Zhu Shiyu wasn’t worried at all about the upcoming events.
She had always dreaded complexity and disliked socializing, but with Meng Siyi in charge, it seemed everything could be resolved in an instant.
Thinking of him, she didn’t feel the flutter of butterflies in her stomach or any dreamy, sweet pink bubbles; instead, it felt like being wrapped in gentle waves, providing a moist sense of security.
The two met again to shoot their wedding photos.
After almost a week apart, Meng Siyi seemed a bit haggard. His bangs had grown a bit long and were messily hanging over his forehead, and he looked like he hadn’t rested well.
Later, Zhu Shiyu found out that the night before, Meng Siyi had been called in last minute to cover for a colleague and had only managed to sleep for three hours.
Upon arriving at the photography studio, they were first taken in for makeup. The two sat side by side in front of the mirrors, letting the makeup artist work on their faces.
During a moment of applying makeup, Zhu Shiyu turned her head to glance at Meng Siyi.
He had his eyes closed, following the makeup artist’s instructions to tilt his head and present his profile, looking inexplicably obedient.
They had already chosen their outfits, with a total of five sets of clothes planned for both indoor and outdoor shoots. The outdoor location was a plant park in the suburbs, which had many evergreen plants—a rare splash of green to see in winter.
After they finished their makeup and changed into their clothes, both were momentarily stunned.
First, there was the impact of their formal attire, and then there was the bright red wedding outfit.
It immediately brought to mind the traditional phoenix coronet and cloud dress, resembling a young couple about to enter a wedding hall.
Meng Siyi’s skin was exceptionally fair, which contrasted even more sharply against the bright red attire. The makeup artist’s skillfully applied makeup completely masked his earlier fatigue, leaving only red lips, white teeth, and striking features.
At that moment, Zhu Shiyu felt that Meng Siyi was indeed deserving of the word “handsome.”
She stood beside him, and at the photographer’s request, they leaned in closer together, their faces almost touching.
Even before the photos were developed, she could already imagine being compared to a green leaf beside him, using her somewhat acceptable appearance to complement Meng Siyi, this bright red flower.
The shooting progressed smoothly; they finished the first few sets of clothes and were left with just the main wedding dress and a Western-style gown.
These two outfits were to be shot outdoors. The group drove to the destination, and as Zhu Shiyu held her skirt and prepared to get out of the car, a vast expanse of green grass came into view.
Standing at the car door, Meng Siyi naturally extended his hand toward her. Zhu Shiyu took it and was gently pulled down, landing steadily.
The lawn was the focus of their wedding dress shoot. As evening approached, the light became softer, and the sky displayed a beautiful gradient of deep and light hues. The entire scene was lovely.
The photographer’s camera clicked continuously as he seemed to find a surge of creative energy, rapidly snapping photos while directing the two of them.
“Yes, bride, hold that pose and smile. Groom, hold her a little tighter!”
Meng Siyi reflexively tightened his grip around her waist, causing Zhu Shiyu to instinctively lean forward, almost bumping her forehead against his chin.
Their breaths unexpectedly intertwined for a few seconds in a flustered moment.
“…Sorry,” Meng Siyi immediately loosened his grip, his voice carrying a hint of embarrassment.
“It’s okay,” Zhu Shiyu replied softly, lowering her head to adjust her dress awkwardly.
Actually, after spending most of the morning getting used to each other, they had developed a basic level of tacit understanding, and they had gotten comfortable with looking at each other, holding hands, and hugging. However, the sudden closeness still made them both feel uneasy.
