At night, the streetlights outside cast fuzzy shadows under the trees.
The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful.
Zhu Shiyu had just stepped out of the bathroom, her hair still dripping, with a towel draped over her head. She was on the phone with Zhu Jinxiao.
“Actually, I wasn’t very supportive of your marriage at first,” her cousin, the one who “talks a lot,” had called her almost immediately after returning home.
“But after seeing him today, it doesn’t seem so bad.” Zhu Jinxiao’s tone was much more serious than during the day.
“I suddenly feel like you two are kind of a good match.”
“Although you’ve only known each other for a short time, he’s really handsome. A guy like him is almost impossible to find in real life, marrying him wouldn’t be a loss.”
“They say you can know a person’s face but not their heart; after knowing someone for over ten years, you still can’t fully understand their character. A few more months doesn’t matter.”
“Marriage is essentially a gamble; you never know what the outcome will be unless you place a bet first.”
After Zhu Jinxiao finished her enthusiastic rant, she noticed that Zhu Shiyu hadn’t spoken for a while. Realizing she might have misspoken, she quickly tried to salvage the situation.
“Xiaoyu, I was just using that as an example; I didn’t mean to bring up that jerk.”
Zhu Shiyu sighed softly and shook her head. “It’s fine.”
“I just suddenly remembered something I saw online; my dead ex-boyfriend suddenly attacked me.”
Zhu Jinxiao laughed at her comment, instinctively recalling a message she had seen earlier when she first got home, and without thinking, she blurted out.
“By the way, have you seen the messages in the high school group? A lot of people have come back; they’re organizing a class reunion at the end of the year…” She stopped mid-sentence, her voice cutting off as she slapped her forehead, feeling frustrated.
It was truly an unfortunate turn of phrase.
“No,” Zhu Shiyu replied with a steady tone.
“I blocked them a long time ago. Who’s organizing the gathering?”
Hearing her casual tone, Zhu Jinxiao took a bold chance and cautiously named a few people, and, as expected, Lu Ge was among them.
“Are you going? If you’re not going, I won’t go either.”
“I probably won’t go. You don’t have to worry about me. There are plenty of your high school friends there, right?”
“That may be true, but I’m afraid if I see Lu Ge, I won’t be able to resist punching him.”
Zhu Shiyu listened to her mumbling and couldn’t help but smile slightly. Just as she was about to speak, Zhu Jinxiao suddenly exclaimed, “Ah!”
“By the way, Xiaoyu, don’t you think Meng Siyi’s name sounds a bit familiar? I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere before.”
“Does it?” Zhu Shiyu looked puzzled, lost in thought.
“Maybe I’ve heard a similar name. I definitely haven’t met him before; with looks like that, he’s definitely unforgettable.”
Zhu Jinxiao seemed to just bring it up casually before quickly moving on to the next topic. The two of them chatted back and forth for about half an hour.
After hanging up the phone, Zhu Shiyu stared at her screen and eventually clicked into the long-neglected class group.
Sure enough, the previously quiet group was now lively, with several pages of accumulated messages.
Lu Ge’s name was mixed in there, but he rarely posted; he would only speak up if tagged.
Many people were also mentioning Zhu Shiyu, as they were unaware that she and Lu Ge had broken up. As the officially recognized “rumored couple” in class, her classmates would tease them.
Lu Ge didn’t clarify anything; he simply spoke a little about the gathering.
Zhu Shiyu stared silently at the messages for a moment before exiting and opening her photo album.
Before long, a new moment appeared on her friend’s circle.
[Boyfriend]
Below it was a group photo.
It was a behind-the-scenes shot taken by an assistant while they were doing their wedding photoshoot. At that time, they had just changed into a more casual outfit, matching in couple’s clothing. Zhu Shiyu wore a white shirt dress, while Meng Siyi wore a white shirt.
They had only started shooting a little while ago, so their coordination was still a bit off, and they were privately rehearsing.
Zhu Shiyu had one hand resting on Meng Siyi’s hand, while the other was half-raised in the air. They faced each other, with him politely holding her waist, both smiling at each other.
The photo was taken extremely naturally, capturing their movements and expressions just right. Most importantly, they were only showing half of their faces, but it was clear that the person was not Lu Ge.
As soon as Zhu Shiyu posted this moment, the bright red number at the top visibly started to jump at a rapid pace. She opened it to take a quick look; her former classmates expressed their shock, and some colleagues and friends who were unaware of the backstory simply sent their blessings, while relatives liked the post, along with Zhu Jinxiao’s thumbs-up.
Zhu Shiyu didn’t reply to any of them and quickly scrolled through. When she reached a certain point, her finger suddenly stopped. Among the various messages, she saw a familiar profile picture.
Meng Siyi had liked her post.
Then below it was a small, bright red heart emoji.
He silently commented with a little heart.
Zhu Shiyu’s lips instinctively curled up in a smile, feeling an odd sense of cuteness.
She exited the page, and her friend’s circle automatically refreshed, revealing a new post at the top.
[Girlfriend]
Meng Siyi had captured a candid photo of her at some point, taken while they were browsing in a bookstore. She was leaning on the table, waiting for him, and had fallen asleep without realizing it.
Sunlight fell on her hair, and there was a small potted plant nearby. The profile of the person in the photo looked serene, peacefully asleep.
It evoked an involuntary association with the phrase “life is tranquil and beautiful.”
Zhu Shiyu thought for a moment, then clicked into the bottom corner to leave him a comment with a matching little heart.
