The plains were now in full bloom under the spring sunlight, but the mountains above had only just begun to shed their snow. Recently, the Adventurer’s Guild organized a hunting party, gathering four teams of adventurers to fish out the giant Dragonfish from the waterfall basin.
The Dragonfish measured over a meter in length, though their numbers had dwindled.
By tying a large hook to a sturdy rope, baiting it with chicken meat, and casting it into the waterfall basin, several Dragonfish would immediately lunge for it.
Using a tug-of-war approach, a group of adventurers would haul the fish up, and as soon as it was on land, the mages would freeze it with magic. The finishing blow to the sluggish Dragonfish’s weak point was delivered by the brawny lizardman swordsmen.
There were a few setbacks—sometimes the Dragonfish’s sharp teeth severed the rope, or they tore off the bait and escaped. Some adventurers were even injured by the thrashing fins of the Dragonfish once they were on land.
But since they were pulled up and defeated one by one, there were no major casualties. Every Dragonfish visible in the waterfall basin was caught—nine in total.
Though the number was small, their size had nearly doubled, making their scales several times more valuable as materials.
Half of the Dragonfish meat was purchased by the Guild, while the remaining half was divided among the participating adventurers. Mika and her team secured their share—a portion of one Dragonfish. The flavor was incomparably richer and more delicious than the one they’d eaten before. Growth undoubtedly had a significant impact on taste.
For a while, the cave behind the waterfall basin had been lively with adventurers, but now it had returned to silence. Only the sound of melting snowwater roared as it cascaded down into the basin from above.
Today, however, Mika, Dada, Zurah, Gatt, and Flower arrived at the cave behind the waterfall basin, each carrying large packs.
This waterfall basin’s door was the closest to where Flower had been discovered. A little further ahead lay the deepest mountain village in this area—a place where yetis were frequently sighted.
Today’s goal was to find Flower’s home.
Inside Dada’s bag was an official letter entrusted by the Guild Master, aiming to establish communication with the newly discovered race.
The problem was that Flower herself wasn’t entirely sure where her home was located.
Thus, the search for Flower’s village was expected to be quite challenging. Since they were heading into the mountains, there would be no doors beyond this point.
For Mika, this would be her first overnight experience in another world—and a camping trip at that. She had taken the day off from Himawari Mart on Saturday, leaving household matters to her husband.
“Mama, be careful. Do your best to find Flower’s home, okay?”
Sent off by her husband’s reassuring words—”I’ll take good care of the kids!”—she shouldered her heavy pack and stepped through the fence door into the other world.
Her goal was to reach Flower’s home within these two days, Saturday and Sunday. Her backpack contained several bottles of insecticide, and in her hand, she carried a shovel that could double as a staff. After meeting up with Dada and the others, they had now arrived at the waterfall basin door.
“Alright, from here, we’ll cut through the forest—but there’s something troublesome in there, isn’t there?”
The Bloodsucking Vine.
A troublesome plant-type monster that extends vines from the trees, ensnaring and draining the blood of its prey. They thrived in the forest along the path leading away from the waterfall.
Since they wanted to take the shortest route to the mountains this time, they decided to pass through the Bloodsucking Vine’s forest.
But it was fine—they had a plan.
In this forest, where the Bloodsucking Vine thrived, lived a butterfly-type monster called the Leaf Moth, which moved about leisurely.
“Even though the Leaf Moth larvae are slow, they never get caught by the Bloodsucking Vine. And the reason is—this! Moth Spray!”
What Zurah pulled out from her bag was a spray bottle filled with an eerie green liquid.
