Chapter 27: Popping Balloons and Pikachu

After waiting for Su Jiang to finish eating, the two of them cleaned up and walked out of the hot pot restaurant. Wang Ziyang had already settled the bill for them.

“Where to next?” Su Jiang asked, unsure of what to do next as he had never spent time alone with a girl before.

“Hmm…” An Rou tilted her head in thought, not wanting to go back so soon either.

So, the two decided to stroll around the streets. Since it wasn’t far from An’s home, Su Jiang decided to accompany An back along the way.

Walking on the crowded street, An Rou had never been to the night market in Jiangdu before, her eyes full of curiosity, looking around here and there.

When they came across a stall with balloons, with neatly arranged darts and balloon guns, An Rou was eager to give it a try.

The stall owner enthusiastically approached An Rou, “Little girl, want to try popping balloons? One yuan per try, starting at ten yuan, and I’ll give you two extra darts.” With the business coming his way, the owner immediately launched into a marketing campaign, a hint of a typical merchant’s smile appearing on his lips.

An Rou glanced at the prizes, finally fixing her gaze on the huge Pikachu plush toy.

“Boss, for that Pikachu plush toy, how many balloons do I need to hit to win it?” An Rou’s voice was clear and melodious, with a subtle hint of nervousness.

The owner smiled proudly upon hearing her question, as the Pikachu plush was the most popular prize at his stall, attracting a lot of customers.

“Little girl, that’s the ultimate prize. You’ll need to hit thirty balloons in a row to take it home,” the owner replied with a hint of cunning in his eyes.

An Rou’s confidence was unwavering, despite the challenge of hitting thirty balloons in a row, a feat even some soldiers might struggle with, let alone students.

However, An Rou remained undeterred. She confidently handed the owner a hundred yuan, purchasing fifty darts and fifty plastic bullets. Su Jiang couldn’t fathom where this little girl’s confidence came from.

Taking a deep breath, An Rou tightly gripped the balloon gun, aimed at the colorful balloons, and gently pulled the trigger, firing several bullets in succession.

“Bang, bang, bang…”

“Pop!”

The balloons continued to sway in the air, with only one being popped by a bullet, leaving An Rou with a look of astonishment on her face.

Su Jiang’s mouth twitched as he managed to hit just one balloon with over ten bullets, despite being a member of a mafia family.

In a way, it could be seen as a talent.

Even the owner was stunned, having seen amateurs before, but none as amateur as this.

“This is quite difficult…”

Su Jiang chuckled nonchalantly, picked up the balloon gun An Rou had just used, counted the remaining bullets, which were over thirty.

“Boss, hitting thirty balloons in a row will earn me the Pikachu plush, right?”

The boss nodded and said, “Of course, no backing out.”

After receiving confirmation, Su Jiang gestured for An Rou to step aside. He then raised the balloon gun, his gaze sharp, carefully aiming at the distant balloons.

Bang!

The shot missed the target, surprising Su Jiang. However, with his expertise in firearms, he quickly realized that the balloon gun had been tampered with by the owner.

No wonder An Rou’s accuracy was so off the charts. Su Jiang glared at the owner.

“Well, this guy isn’t that great after all. I thought he was skilled from his stance earlier,” he muttered.

“These two lovebirds are truly a perfect match, equally amateurish,” he added with a smirk.

“Let me have a go. I could do better even with my eyes closed.”

The crowd grew larger, with some unpleasant individuals making derogatory comments.

Feeling angry, An Rou was fed up with these people and approached to pull Su Jiang away.

Before she could reach him, Su Jiang quickly raised the gun again and swiftly pulled the trigger.

Bang!

“Pop!” A balloon burst.

An Rou was stunned. Before she or the surrounding people could react, Su Jiang fired several shots in succession.

Bang! Pop! Bang! Pop…

The sound of gunfire and bursting balloons continued, creating a rhythmic melody. Every time Su Jiang pulled the trigger, a balloon inevitably burst.

The surrounding crowd fell into an instant silence, as if time had frozen in that moment.

Even the stall owner widened his eyes, his pupils shimmering with disbelief. At that moment, the only sounds in the entire area were the crisp clicks of Su Jiang pulling the trigger and the consecutive bursts of balloons – “bang, bang.”

“19, 20, 21…”

An Rou stood to the side, speaking in a hushed tone.
