It was nearing afternoon at the harbor of Jiangdu City.
“Brother…”
An Ruo clung to An Mingjie’s sleeve, reluctant to let go.
Around them, the An family was loading supplies onto the ship prepared by the Inspectorate.
They were about to set sail for the East Sea, entering the battlefield on the Isolated island from the north.
Since there were people from the Inspectorate around, Su Jiang didn’t show himself. He just sat in his black car a short distance away, silently playing on his phone, waiting for An Ruo to bid them farewell.
As for the Inspectorate, Su Jiang had taken a long leave of absence.
The reason was that the incident yesterday had frightened him. He wouldn’t go back until they have found the ” Cold Noodle King” at the Inspectorate.
Old Xu even called to comfort Su Jiang, telling him to take a good rest.
This made Su Jiang feel that the Inspectorate wasn’t so bad after all.
Seeing An Ruo’s dejected face, An Mingjie smiled softly and reached out to pat her head.
“Don’t worry, Rourou, we’ll win.”
“That’s right, Miss, don’t act like we’re not coming back!”
A member of the An family passing by while carrying something laughed.
An Ruo glared lightly at the person before turning back to An Mingjie and asking,
“Brother, how long will you be gone?”
“The island isn’t far. It’ll take a day and a night to sail there. If everything goes smoothly, we’ll be back within half a month.”
“What if things don’t go smoothly?”
“If things don’t go smoothly… then you’ll just have to wait a couple more days.” An Mingjie smiled nonchalantly.
An Ruo frowned, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a red amulet, handing it to An Mingjie.
“…What’s this?”
“A charm. I bought it on the way. It’s for your safety.”
“Don’t be silly, this is bad luck. Give it to Su Jiang.”
In dramas, anyone who carries a charm usually ends up getting shot.
An Mingjie quickly refused, then paused and said, “Or maybe give it to Li Cai. He’s been really stressed lately, I don’t know why.”
An Ruo’s face immediately fell at his rejection. She had carefully chosen this one after a long search.
Just then, Li Cai, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, walked over with a swagger.
“Hey, you’re just in time!” An Mingjie raised an eyebrow, took the charm from An Ruo, and shoved it into Li Cai’s hand.
Li Cai: “???”
“What is this?” He took it and examined it curiously, not understanding.
“A charm.”
“Why are you giving this to me? This kind of unlucky thing, who the hell bought it?”
“Rourou bought it.” An Mingjie said with a smile.
“…”
Li Cai immediately broke out in a cold sweat. He looked at An Ruo and felt…
Killing intent in her calm eyes.
An Mingjie, you old rascal!
You’re setting me up!
“Uh… I was wondering who could be so thoughtful and know to give a charm.”
“Turns out it’s our beautiful and graceful Miss An Ruo, hahaha…”
Li Cai laughed nervously, clutching the charm tightly as he gradually moved away from the siblings.
“Well, uh, I think I parked my car crooked, I’ll go check it out.”
With that, Li Cai took off running.
An Mingjie twitched his lips. “When did you even park your car?”
And wasn’t Su Jiang sitting in your car right now?
“Hmph!”
An Ruo was fuming. Her good intentions were met with such disdain.
She was worried about them, but now it seemed they really did need her to worry.
Whether it was An Mingjie, Li Cai, or any other member of the An family…
They all had a carefree look on their faces, like they were going on a sea voyage.
“Leader An, you can set off now.”
A detective from the Inspectorate walked up to An Mingjie and said.
Since An Mingjie wasn’t the head of the An family right now, everyone called him Young Master An or Leader An.
An Mingjie nodded lightly. They had to set off before the Feng family, be the first to land on the island, and seize the initiative.
This was a special privilege granted to them by Director Zheng.
Everyone boarded the ship, leaving only An Mingjie below to say goodbye to An Ruo.
An Mingjie glanced at An Ruo, then at the black car in the distance, where Su Jiang was sitting.
He suddenly chuckled, leaned close to An Ruo’s ear, and whispered,
“Rourou, while we’re gone, the An family will be weak. You… go stay with Su Jiang for now.”
“Huh?”
An Ruo widened her eyes, looking at An Mingjie in disbelief.
I’m your sister!
You’re asking me to go stay at another guy’s house?
Isn’t that… cohabiting?
An Mingjie sighed in frustration. “Rourou, I have no choice. Now that both the Feng family and the An family have gone to the island…”
“The only threat left in Jiangdu City is the Lin family.”
“I’m worried that Lin Hui will take advantage of this situation and do something to you…”
An Mingjie paused and said, “Sigh, it’s all my fault. I’m so useless, otherwise you wouldn’t have to face this situation.”
He looked self-reproaching, as if he was blaming himself for not being strong enough to leave someone behind to protect An Ruo.
“Brother…”
An Ruo bit her lip, her face flushed red, and she whispered, “I… I didn’t say I wouldn’t go…”
“So you agree?”
“I…”
An Ruo’s face was red all the way to her ears, and her voice grew quieter.
“Well, if you’re saying that, then I have no choice.”
“But don’t get the wrong idea. I’m doing this so that Lin Hui doesn’t take advantage of the situation and use me to threaten you.”
“I’m definitely not doing this for that jerk Su Jiang.”
“Ah, yes, yes, yes.” An Mingjie nodded repeatedly. “I understand. This is a hardship for you, right?”
“When I come back, I’ll pick you up and bring you back to the An family immediately. I won’t let you stay at Su Jiang’s for a single day longer!”
He didn’t wait for An Ruo’s response before turning and leaving. The people from the Inspectorate were already urging him.
“Rourou, be good and wait for me to come back!”
The ship left the harbor and sailed further and further away. An Mingjie stood at the edge of the ship, waving to An Ruo.
The other An family members did the same, smiling and bidding farewell to An Ruo.
“Miss, don’t worry, we’ll be back!”
“Miss, don’t miss us too much, okay!”
“Miss, my phone is on the table in the living room. It has all the photos of you and Mr. Su, I’m giving them all to you!”
“Damn, dude, you’re giving away such a big treasure without consulting the rest of us?”
“Yeah, that’s all our wealth!”
“…”
An Ruo was still a little sad, but seeing everyone suddenly start to joke and make a ruckus on the boat, her sadness dissipated instantly.
An Mingjie’s eyes were deep, and through the black car window, he seemed to be able to see Su Jiang sitting inside, waving at them.
Then, he looked back at An Ruo with reluctance and silently thought to himself.
Rourou, if things don’t go well, brother might… not be able to come back.
Su Jiang is someone you can trust, even if he’s a little out there sometimes.
But, if we really can’t come back, let Su Jiang accompany you on the road ahead.
