Chapter 52 Extra – Final Chapter: The Wedding
Ying Nian and Yu Linran’s wedding was not extravagant, but every detail was meticulously planned, making it understated yet grand.
Yu Linran’s relatives returned to the country a week in advance, and apart from his grandfather, everyone attended. Initially, when he announced the wedding to his family, Ying Nian felt nervous. Sure enough, things didn’t go smoothly, and despite Yu Linran’s attempt to hide it from her, she eventually found out.
His grandfather was still upset. The old man had originally forbidden the family from attending the wedding. Yu Linran’s father usually went along with whatever he said, but when it came to his son’s big life event, he couldn’t let him act recklessly. He locked himself in the study with the old man for a talk, and whatever was said, half an hour later, the old man stopped interfering with the wedding.
The rest of the relatives acted as if they were unaware of the conflict, and the whole family came.
As for friends, almost everyone was from the esports circle—those who had a good relationship with Yu Linran, those who had good relations with SF, and even some friends of team owners. Yu Linran generously sent invitations to all of them.
Ying Nian’s parents and elder brother naturally attended, along with close relatives like her uncle, who came with his entire family. Even those with whom she had past conflicts sent a male representative and a gift as a gesture of goodwill. After all, Ying Yaoxing was the most successful member of the Ying family, and one never knows when they might need his help. There was no benefit in cutting ties completely.
As for Old Master Ying Zhaoguo, Ying Nian only heard her father mention once that he had learned of her upcoming marriage. However, no invitation was sent to Ying Zhaoguo. He stayed in his study for half a day and, upon coming out, didn’t say anything. He never mentioned the matter again.
Yu Linran’s friends were all from the esports circle, while Ying Nian’s friends were all her classmates. Although she had good relationships with people, she wasn’t one to make shallow friendships, so she only invited a portion of her close university friends. The rest just received wedding candy gift bags.
Her two best friends, Zhou Yao and Zheng Yinyin, of course, attended and served as her bridesmaids.
Before the wedding began, Ying Nian, all dressed up, was surrounded by a group of friends in the bride’s waiting room, with two relatives mixed in—her brother Ying Heng and her cousin Jiang Jiashu.
“Brother Heng, is Ying Nian really marrying Yu Linran just like that?”
Ying Heng remained silent, reached out, and pinched Jiang Jiashu’s face, causing him to push Ying Heng away and rub his cheek in pain.
“Why did you pinch me?”
“Just so you can feel if you’re dreaming.”
Jiang Jiashu complained about both Ying Heng and the situation, “I thought when Brother Heng came back, he’d be able to lead Ying Nian down the right path, but in the end, he still couldn’t stop her. Brother Heng, you’re really useless…”
“What did you just say?” Ying Heng pretended to be angry. “Looking for a beating?”
Jiang Jiashu quickly dodged to the side, distancing himself from him.
Ying Nian, dressed in her wedding gown, sat on a stool like a delicate porcelain doll, held down by her two bridesmaids, preventing her from moving.
“I’m getting married! Jiang Jiashu, are you badmouthing my husband right in front of me? Are you asking for a beating?!”
“Please, stop saying that word!” Jiang Jiashu poked his head out from behind Chen Xuze. “It makes my ears hurt. Aren’t you embarrassed?”
Before Ying Nian could scold him, Chen Xuze glanced at him first. “Don’t lean on my shoulder.”
“You’re disgusted with me too?” Jiang Jiashu grumbled, “We’re on the same side!”
Chen Xuze couldn’t be bothered to respond, silently scooting a bit farther away.
Zhou Yao and Zheng Yinyin just watched them and laughed, standing next to Ying Nian and occasionally helping her adjust her wedding gown.
Ying Heng, showing concern, asked her, “Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something to fill your stomach a bit?”
Ying Nian shook her head, “No need. You all should head out. Brother, go help mom and dad entertain the guests. I’m worried they’ll get tired.” She then turned to glare at Jiang Jiashu, “You too, hurry up and take Chen Xuze with you to sit down. Stop hovering around me! This room isn’t big to begin with, and it’s getting crowded. Isn’t it stifling?”
The three men were promptly driven out by her. Chen Xuze was different from the other two—while the others came to see the bride, he was there to see the bridesmaids. He stood rooted to the spot until Zhou Yao shot him a glance, and only then did he leave.
With the boys gone, it was time for the girls to talk about what was on their minds. Without the men around, the atmosphere instantly became warm and intimate.
Starting from the beginning would have taken forever, so the three of them exchanged a few words, each feeling a bit choked up.
“Niannian, you’re getting married,” Zhou Yao said, gently stroking her hair. “That’s wonderful.”
Zheng Yinyin nodded with a smile.
Ying Nian slightly lifted her head to look at the two of them. “You two should hurry up as well! Yaoyao, you and Chen Xuze have already got your marriage certificate, when are you having the wedding? And Yinyin, hurry up and find someone! I’m waiting for your kids so we can be in-laws in the future!”
Zheng Yinyin teased, “How cheesy can you get!”
“Who cares if it’s cheesy!” Ying Nian said. “I’ll have a son and a daughter—my son will marry Yaoyao’s daughter, and my daughter will marry Yinyin’s son!” She spread her hands wide, “Problem solved!”
“Behave yourself. You’re the most beautiful bride today,” Zhou Yao said as she gently repositioned Ying Nian’s hands. “I’m not in a rush, but Yinyin really needs to hurry.”
“No worries, they say if a woman is three years older, it brings good fortune. I’ll have a daughter, and we’ll give Yinyin three more years. There’s still time!”
“Heh, you two have my life all planned out, don’t you?”
The three of them couldn’t stop laughing.
Amid their laughter, there was a knock on the door, and it was pushed open. Yu Linran stepped inside.
Zhou Yao and Zheng Yinyin, being considerate, made room. “We’ll head out first. Call us when you need us, you two chat.”
After nodding politely to the groom, they both left the room, leaving the door slightly ajar.
Ying Nian sat on the stool, tilting her head up to look at the tall groom.
“Oh, what a coincidence, you’re here too?”
Yu Linran walked toward her slowly, his eyes narrowing slightly. “So cheeky.”
“What’s this handsome guy doing here?”
“Here to see my silly wife,” Yu Linran stood in front of her and, with a playful “viciousness,” pinched her chin.
Ying Nian tilted her head, trying to dodge but unable to escape. She glared at him, “Who are you calling silly?”
“Maybe chubby wife?”
“You’re the one who’s chubby!”
Yu Linran’s lips curled into a slight smile as he studied his “silly wife’s” face.
Ying Nian lifted her heavy skirt a little and muttered, “You didn’t used to be like this.”
“Like what?”
“My captain used to be gentle and considerate, always understanding. Whatever I wanted, he’d give it to me. If I pointed east, he wouldn’t go west. He spoiled me every day, looked after me, had such a great temper, and smiled all the time…”
“How many captains do you actually have?” Yu Linran couldn’t hold back and pinched her cheek.
Not one to back down, Ying Nian pinched his waist in return. After a few seconds of playful teasing, she laughed and threw herself into his arms, holding onto his waist tightly.
Yu Linran, noticing that her back was showing too much, kept trying to pull her dress up. Only when Ying Nian got frustrated that her clothes were starting to shift did he stop.
Ying Nian snuggled up to him affectionately, then suddenly said, “Hey? Aren’t people supposed to say that you shouldn’t see each other before the wedding? The ceremony is about to start, why are you here?”
“Who are these ‘people’? They sure have a lot to say,” Yu Linran raised his eyebrow.
Ying Nian sighed, “I’m being serious! You really know how to get under my skin!” She rolled her eyes at him, “Only I can put up with you.”
Yu Linran suddenly smiled and gently flicked her forehead.
“You’re the only one for me. I don’t care about anyone else.”
…
“Ying Nian?”
“Yu Linran?”
“I do.”
“I do too… alright, save some for later.”
“Okay.”
“Make sure to say it loudly later, okay? It needs to have that ‘I won’t marry anyone but her’ vibe. Ideally, it should be full of deep emotion with a hint of fearlessness. I want all the guests to feel like your love for me could shake the earth and mountains!”
“You’re being a bit dramatic, wife.”
“We’re not even at the seven-year itch yet, and you’re already tired of me. How am I supposed to live like this?”
“…Got it. Just give me a megaphone later, and I’ll blow their ears out.”
…
“Ying Nian.”
“Hmm?”
“I love you.”
“—I love you too, Yu Linran.”
