Chapter 39 “Look at this flower, isn’t it very round…”
“Mm,” Lin Zhi didn’t take it too seriously. “I heard it too.”
The sound of the little cart passing by was so loud that he heard it from a distance.
“You heard it too?”
“Yeah,” Lin Zhi slightly raised his chin and pointed to the candied hawthorn cart that had already moved some distance ahead of them. “Wasn’t it that cart making the sound?”
“No… never mind,” Lu Liu wrapped the scattered popcorn in a napkin and picked it up, “I probably misheard.”
Earlier, for a moment, he thought he heard the wheels of a cart scraping the ground quickly, so he instinctively pulled Lin Zhi to a safer side. But when he turned around, he saw the cart moving slowly and leisurely, and the cars on the road were all driving smoothly and in order.
After throwing the trash in the roadside bin, Lu Liu still felt uneasy and kept Lin Zhi on the inner side the entire time.
Sometimes, it felt like events in real life had appeared in his previous dreams, and he just hoped that the anxiety from that moment wouldn’t appear again in the future.
The topic they were discussing had been completely interrupted. Lin Zhi changed the subject: “Class monitor, don’t you have something you want to ask me?”
“Hm?” Lu Liu thought to himself, You’re the one who wants to say something, and replied accordingly, “Like what?”
“Like…” Lin Zhi unconsciously tilted his head, “How I knew your other account?”
“You said it was from Shake It, didn’t you?” Lu Liu ruthlessly exposed him. “And before today, it seemed like you didn’t know that was my other account.”
Lin Zhi ignored the second half of the sentence and smiled. “You really believed me.”
Lu Liu didn’t believe it at all. He had been confused at first, but since Lin Zhi didn’t want to say more, he didn’t press further. He decided to believe Lin Zhi’s explanation, thinking it was all just fate.
From what Lin Zhi had said just now, did that mean he was going to tell him?
Lu Liu: “So, how did you know?”
Lin Zhi turned his head and seriously looked into Lu Liu’s eyes, saying earnestly, “Because I had a dream when I was little. In the dream, there was only a string of random numbers. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but later, I started dreaming about that same string of numbers once or twice a year. After a while, I began writing down the numbers when I woke up.”
Lu Liu: “…”
Just earlier, he had thought of the example of dreams becoming reality, and now it was happening.
“Until last year,” Lin Zhi changed his tone and continued, “In the dream, along with the numbers, there was also a WeChat icon. So, I guessed that the string of numbers was someone’s WeChat ID.”
“Sure enough, after that, the dream told me that this person was the important person in my life and that I had to find him.”
After saying this, Lin Zhi shifted his gaze away, otherwise… he was afraid he would burst out laughing.
This explanation wasn’t something Lin Zhi had made up on the spot. In fact, he had thought for a long time before coming up with this excuse. He had originally planned to use it on the day he first met “Zhi,” to prepare for getting closer to “Zhi.” He hadn’t expected it to come in handy now.
“Oh~” Lu Liu smiled ambiguously. “I see now.”
“Mm,” Lin Zhi asked sincerely, “You don’t believe me?”
“I believe,” Lu Liu said in a very sincere tone. “I believe, especially the last part. You won’t make me not believe.”
“That’s good,” Lin Zhi said, holding back a smile.
“By the way,” Lu Liu followed Lin Zhi’s words, “Did the dream tell you how your important person is important? What are you supposed to do once you find him?”
“This…” Lin Zhi hadn’t thought of that yet. “The dream didn’t say.”
Lu Liu laughed, his eyes sparkling, and asked, “Do you want the important person to tell you?”
Lin Zhi felt a sudden warmth in his ears, and an absurd expectation rose in his heart: “Okay, sure.”
Lu Liu pretended to think seriously, keeping him in suspense for a while before speaking: “Are you hungry? Shall we go eat first?”
Lin Zhi: “…Okay.”
It wasn’t wrong to say that Lu Liu was his important person. Back in the previous life, Lu Liu had silently helped him out of his low point without him knowing. After his rebirth, Lu Liu had continued to help him in many big and small ways. Even being able to come to B City for school had a lot to do with the help of Lu Liu, the university top student.
Looking back, Lin Zhi realized that he had been somewhat ungrateful before.
As they waited for their food, Lin Zhi couldn’t help but look out the window and overthink, eventually reaching the point where he thought to himself, “How could I, Lin Zhi, deserve someone as outstanding as Lu Liu, who treats me so well in both lives…”
“Scrreeech—”
As Lin Zhi stood up, the chair legs screeched loudly against the floor. “Class monitor, I’ll be right back.”
Before Lu Liu could answer, Lin Zhi hurriedly left the restaurant and walked to a small store located diagonally across the mall on the same floor. The store was named “First Encounter,” and its simple font and colors gave no clue about the store’s purpose. Lin Zhi had only realized after staring out the window for a while that it was a flower shop.
Although the store was small, it was well-stocked, with both fresh and dried flowers filling the room in a variety of types and colors—a visual feast. However, Lin Zhi didn’t have time to appreciate the decor. He quickly found what he was looking for and went straight to pick the most beautiful bouquet.
From his seating angle, Lu Liu couldn’t see where Lin Zhi had gone or what he was doing. Sitting alone waiting for the food, he was quite bored.
Five minutes later, Lin Zhi returned, and Lu Liu could tell from his posture that Lin Zhi had something in his hands, though they were hidden behind his back under the loose sweatshirt he wore due to the sharp drop in temperature.
When Lin Zhi sat down, he placed the simply wrapped bouquet in front of Lu Liu. He tried to make the gesture appear natural and casual, but it was his first time doing this, and it still felt a bit awkward. His voice came out deliberately: “You said you liked sunflowers, so I got this for you.”
People at the nearby tables were blatantly watching them. Lu Liu’s lips twitched, a mixture of happiness and awkwardness. He picked up the bouquet lying on the table… though calling it a bouquet was a stretch—it only had two flowers inside, each about the size of a face.
Lu Liu: “…Thank you.”
“If you like it, then I’m happy,” Lin Zhi said joyfully. “Look at these flowers, aren’t they round?”
