Chapter 13: Meeting a Reborn

The elderly woman’s hand was swollen.  Many onlookers chuckled.  Dealing with such a person, a direct slap was satisfying.  Knowing Jiang Li was not someone to be trifled with, the elderly woman fell silent. Liu Yulan, seeing the elderly woman defeated so quickly, found it uninteresting. Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun looked at Jiang Li again. Bai Ziyong whispered to Mu Jingxun, “Brother Xun, this girl is fierce.

” Mu Jingxun silently agreed.  He had never seen such a girl before.  A woman across from them looked at Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun.  Her eyes lit up when she saw Mu Jingxun. This woman was Sun Wenwen. In her past life, Sun Wenwen had also gone to the countryside on this day.  Her family was poor, so life in the countryside was difficult.

 She later married a local villager. Her husband was kind, but the conditions in the countryside were poor; they couldn’t eat or dress well.  Sun Wenwen endured for several years until the restoration of the college entrance examination and the return of educated youth to the cities. But she was married with a child and didn’t get into college. 

She regretted marrying a villager. If she hadn’t married, she would have had a chance to return to the city and wouldn’t have spent her life in the countryside. Unexpectedly, after her death, she was given a second chance to return to before going to the countryside. Sun Wenwen chose to go to the countryside again, this time for Mu Jingxun. She had seen Mu Jingxun on TV; he was a high-ranking official. 

She had the chance to get close to him but chose to marry a villager instead. If she had married Mu Jingxun, she wouldn’t have spent her life in the countryside but would have returned to Beijing and become a high-ranking official’s wife.

 Seeing Mu Jingxun on the train again made Sun Wenwen excited.  This life was slightly different from her past life; she hadn’t seen Jiang Li before.  Sun Wenwen thought it was the butterfly effect of her rebirth. The important thing was that Mu Jingxun was also going to the countryside.  Sun Wenwen wanted to impress him.

She loudly criticized Jiang Li. “Comrade, why did you do that? The elderly woman is old; why can’t you let her sit? Even if you didn’t give up your seat, you shouldn’t hit an elderly person!” Jiang Li looked at Sun Wenwen. Oh, a goody-two-shoes? Jiang Li hated such people. Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun also heard Sun Wenwen.

Bai Ziyong whispered to Mu Jingxun, “This person’s brain is full of shit.” Mu Jingxun nodded. Jiang Li said to Sun Wenwen, “Since you’re so kind, give your seat to the elderly woman.  Some people just like to morally blackmail others.” Sun Wenwen’s face flushed.  To impress Mu Jingxun, she gave her seat to the elderly woman. “Ma’am, please take my seat. You must find it hard to stand.” Jiang Li found it funny.

She wouldn’t bother with such a person. Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun were sure Sun Wenwen was an idiot. The elderly woman happily took the seat. Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun found their seats next to Jiang Li. Sun Wenwen had to stand. More people boarded the train, and it finally started moving. Jiang Li looked out the window. She would be leaving Beijing.  She wished she had a sleeper ticket; sitting for two days would be tiring.  This carriage was mainly filled with educated youth going to the countryside.

Someone started introducing themselves and their destinations. “Hello, I’m Xu Mengda, going to Liaoning Province… I hope to contribute to rural construction.” “I’m Zhang Ping, going to Jilin Province…” When it was Sun Wenwen’s turn, she glanced at Bai Ziyong and Mu Jingxun. “I’m Sun Wenwen, going to Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province.” Hearing that Sun Wenwen was also going to Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province, Jiang Li frowned.

 Was Sun Wenwen going to the same place as her?  Jiang Li performed a divination and discovered that Sun Wenwen was reborn.  She also found out Sun Wenwen’s purpose for going to the countryside: to attract Mu Jingxun. Jiang Li felt sorry for Mu Jingxun; he was handsome, and Sun Wenwen would be a nuisance.
