Chapter 14: Crashed into Mu Jingxun’s arms

Mu Jingxun didn’t notice Jiang Li looking at him but frowned when he heard Sun Wenwen’s destination was Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province. He worried that he might be assigned to the same place as her. He didn’t want to be in the same brigade as such a foolish woman.

Bai Ziyong felt the same.  When it was their turn to introduce themselves, they, like other educated youth, stated their names and destinations. Jiang Li, though uninterested, didn’t want to stand out, so she lazily said, “I’m Jiang Li, also going to Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province.” Hearing that Jiang Li was also going to Anfeng County, the educated youth exclaimed that many were going there.

 It was said to be more prosperous than other places, with abundant farmland.  Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong didn’t expect Jiang Li to be going to the same place. They found Jiang Li interesting and hoped to be assigned to the same production team.

Sun Wenwen looked at Jiang Li in surprise. This woman was going to Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province?  She hadn’t existed in her past life!  She attributed Jiang Li’s appearance to the butterfly effect of her rebirth. After introducing their destinations, the educated youth chatted. Sun Wenwen, standing for a while, felt her legs aching.

 She regretted giving her seat to the elderly woman. She asked Bai Ziyong, “Comrade Bai, my legs hurt from standing. Can I sit in your seat for a while?” Sun Wenwen remembered that Bai Ziyong was easygoing in her past life.  She was a woman; he wouldn’t refuse. If Bai Ziyong agreed, she could sit next to Mu Jingxun.

 This time, she would win Mu Jingxun and become an official’s wife. Bai Ziyong found Sun Wenwen annoying and didn’t want to give up his seat. He mocked her, “You’re so kind to give your seat to the elderly woman, and now you want mine?  Dream on! I don’t want to stand. If you’re tired, ask the elderly woman for her seat. Why ask me? Do I owe you something?” Sun Wenwen’s face flushed.

 She looked at Mu Jingxun with a pitiful expression. But Mu Jingxun didn’t look at her or speak for her. Jiang Li almost laughed at Bai Ziyong’s retort.  A male educated youth said to Sun Wenwen, “Comrade, if you’re tired, you can sit in my seat.” Sun Wenwen gratefully sat down. The train continued. At lunchtime, Jiang Li bought a boxed lunch. Most educated youth brought their own food; boxed lunches on the train were expensive.  Only a few, including Jiang Li, Bai Ziyong, and Mu Jingxun, bought boxed lunches.

The trip to Anfeng County, Heilongjiang Province, would take two days and two nights.  Everyone was initially energetic but became tired as time went on. They were all waiting to arrive.  Sun Wenwen regretted giving up her seat. She asked the elderly woman to return her seat but was scolded. She hadn’t gained Mu Jingxun’s favor. After two days and two nights, the train arrived at their destination.

They had to take another bus to Anfeng County. Unlike the others, Jiang Li looked energetic. She had been secretly cultivating. The original owner’s body was weak, but after taking the Xisuidan, it had improved.  However, it still needed time to recover to her previous level.  She cultivated during the train journey. Jiang Li carried her luggage and got off the train.  The crowd was large, and she almost got crushed. Liu Yulan followed Jiang Li, harboring resentment. Seeing a chance to get back at Jiang Li, she pushed her as she was about to get off. Mu Jingxun saw Liu Yulan’s action and pulled Jiang Li.

 Even without Mu Jingxun, Jiang Li wouldn’t have fallen hard. She felt the push and steadied herself, but Mu Jingxun caught her.  Jiang Li found herself in Mu Jingxun’s arms.  She felt his strong physique.  He was handsome and had a great figure.  Seeing Jiang Li in Mu Jingxun’s arms, Sun Wenwen’s eyes burned with jealousy. Mu Jingxun was hers; why was another woman getting close to him?
