Chapter 3: The Truth Talisman Speaks the Truth
So Jiang Li slapped Jiang Wenjun several times across the face, as revenge for the original owner. Jiang Wenjun cried out in pain. Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan were dumbfounded. After Jiang Li’s hand ached from slapping, she stopped and looked at Xia Meifeng and her daughter. A chilling smile appeared on Jiang Li’s lips. “You went to him to complain, right? It seems I didn’t beat you enough last time.
” Since they weren’t sufficiently beaten, according to Jiang Li’s principles, she would continue. There was no one who couldn’t be beaten into submission; if there was, it was simply because they hadn’t been beaten enough. Seeing Jiang Li’s expression, Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan were terrified. Seeing that Jiang Li was about to attack them, Xia Meifeng scrambled out of the house and shouted in the apartment building, “Murder! Murder! Jiang Li is going to kill us!
” Jiang Wan followed, crying, “Waaah, uncles, aunts, and neighbors, save us! Jiang Li wants to kill us!” Seeing the mother and daughter run out and yell, Jiang Li sneered. Good, they wanted to call people to deal with her; today, she would let them lose face. Hearing the commotion, the neighbors in the apartment building rushed out to see what was happening. Jiang Li was always the one crying; now that the roles had reversed, no one knew what Xia Meifeng and her daughter were up to.
“Meifeng, what’s going on in your house?” Xia Meifeng was about to start fabricating a story about Jiang Li, but her mouth seemed to be out of control, and she started rambling. “Jiang Li beat our whole family. I just didn’t want Wanwan to suffer in the countryside, so I registered Wanwan for the countryside program.
But that bitch came back to question us. After Wanwan pushed her, causing her to hit her head, she changed completely and beat me and Wanwan. When my husband and son came back, I wanted them to teach that girl a lesson, but she even hit her own father!” Hearing Xia Meifeng’s words, the neighbors watching the commotion were shocked. What? Xia Meifeng was so wicked that she made Jiang Li go to the countryside instead of Jiang Wan? Everyone said stepmothers were cruel, but not to this extent!
It was Jiang Wan who should have gone to the countryside; why did she make Jiang Li take her place? Xia Meifeng didn’t know why she was saying these things and quickly covered her mouth. Jiang Wan thought her mother’s mind must have been damaged by Jiang Li. They shouldn’t have said this! Although they were usually unkind to Jiang Li, they weren’t stupid enough to do this openly.
They should at least pretend in front of outsiders. Seeing the neighbors looking at them with disdain and reproach, Jiang Wan tried to explain but found herself, like her mother, seemingly possessed. “Yes, I don’t want to go to the countryside. It’s such hard work; why should I go? That bitch Jiang Li should go instead. This bitch didn’t obediently accept our arrangement and dared to question us, so I pushed her…” With Jiang Wan’s words, the neighbors’ anger intensified. What a shameless mother and daughter! How could they treat Jiang Li like this? Xia Meifeng, the stepmother, shouldn’t be expected to be kind to Jiang Li, but she couldn’t bully her stepdaughter to this extent!
Righteous neighbors started scolding Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan. “You two are shameless! You actually treated Jiang Li like this. Jiang Li already had a job and didn’t need to go to the countryside. Why should she replace Jiang Wan?” “Oh, this child is so pitiful. She lost her mother at birth, and her father found such a vicious stepmother.” “Tsk tsk, I’ve watched this child grow up. She’s had a really hard time at home.
With such a stepmother, it’s amazing she’s still alive.” “Xia Meifeng, doesn’t your conscience bother you? Didn’t you say that when Jiang Li came of age, Chengye’s job would be transferred to her? Now that she’s of age, the job can be transferred to your son, but you can’t let Jiang Li go to the countryside.” Surrounded by the crowd and subjected to criticism, Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan looked terrified.
What the hell? Why were the words coming out of their mouths different from what they wanted to say? It was as if someone was controlling them. Jiang Li came out of the house, saw the berated Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan, and smiled slightly. She had used a truth-telling charm. Heh, they wanted to distort the facts and use public opinion to attack her? Not so easy! Did they think she was still the weak and easily bullied original owner? Seeing Jiang Li come out, the neighbors looked at her with pity, and someone immediately asked with concern, “Xiaoli, are you okay? Your stepmother is so vicious!
Look at the wound on your head; it’s so serious.” “Yes, so much blood. Xiaoli, does your head hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?” Xia Meifeng and Jiang Wan were almost mad. Didn’t these people see how badly Jiang Li had beaten them? Why didn’t they say Jiang Li was wrong? Jiang Li, looking at the concerned neighbors, put on a cute and pitiful smile. “Uncles and aunts, thank you for your concern.
I… I’m fine. I’m used to it. They often treat me like this.” Jiang Li’s words made the neighbors even more sympathetic. If Xia Meifeng hadn’t spoken up today, who would have known how vicious her stepmother was? They didn’t expect Xia Meifeng, the stepmother, to be kind to Jiang Li. But Jiang Wenjun, as her biological father, not only didn’t stand up for his daughter when she was bullied, but also bullied her with Xia Meifeng.
Wasn’t this too much? The neighbors dragged Jiang Wenjun out and scolded him. “Wenjun, Xiaoli is your child. Chen Lin passed away early, and Xiaoli lost her mother at birth. Such a pitiful child, as her father, shouldn’t you cherish and care for her more?” Jiang Wenjun was in pain. Hearing the neighbors’ accusations, he wanted to retort, but when he opened his mouth, he found himself unable to control his words and started rambling.
“That girl should have gone with her mother. Why is she still alive?” Hearing Jiang Wenjun’s words, the neighbors were even more shocked. Who wouldn’t want their own daughter to live? “Wenjun, you and Chen Lin had a good relationship.
Xiaoli is your biological daughter. How can you say that?” Jiang Wenjun couldn’t control himself and said, “I didn’t have any feelings for Chen Lin. I didn’t like that arrogant young lady. If her father hadn’t been the deputy factory director and helped my career, I wouldn’t have bothered to coax her.”
