Chapter 32 Role Reversal, Sun Wenwen Falls into the Water
Seeing Jiang Li go to wash clothes, Sun Wenwen saw her chance. If this worked, Jiang Li would marry Li Ermazi, leaving the educated youth’s quarters and removing the threat to her chances with Mu Jingxun. Sun Wenwen also took a basin of laundry outside. She couldn’t directly push Jiang Li into the water; she needed to create an accident.
Her plan was to pretend to accidentally bump into Jiang Li near the pond, pushing her in. Then she would pretend to call for help, allowing Li Ermazi to save her.
Since there might be others at the pond, she couldn’t directly push Jiang Li; that would get her in trouble. This way, no one would suspect she intentionally pushed Jiang Li. After hurrying out, Sun Wenwen informed Aunt Guihua and went to the pond.
Aunt Guihua, seeing the opportunity, immediately called her son, Li Ermazi. Jiang Li was washing clothes when she sensed someone approaching.
Her intuition told her something was wrong. Without turning around, she quickly performed a divination. The result revealed Sun Wenwen’s plan to harm her. A cold smile touched Jiang Li’s lips. This woman wanted to attack her but needed to consider if she had the ability. Jiang Li remained calm, pretending not to notice.
Sun Wenwen slowly approached, afraid of being discovered. Fortunately, Jiang Li was focused on washing clothes and didn’t react. Finally, Sun Wenwen was a step away, about to put down her basin when she “accidentally” slipped and stumbled toward Jiang Li. Just as Sun Wenwen thought her plan was going smoothly, Jiang Li suddenly dodged.
Not only did Sun Wenwen fail to hit Jiang Li, but she almost fell herself. Just as Sun Wenwen was relieved, she felt a force push her into the pond. It was Jiang Li’s doing. Jiang Li used a spell, an invisible hand pushing Sun Wenwen.
Since Sun Wenwen wanted to harm her, Jiang Li wouldn’t let it go easily. She was always one for revenge. With a “splash,” Sun Wenwen fell into the pond, struggling and calling for help. It was the same as Sun Wenwen’s plan, but their roles were reversed.
Jiang Li shouted, “Someone fell into the water! Who can swim? Help!” Li Ermazi, waiting for his opportunity, jumped in to save her. He didn’t notice it was Sun Wenwen, not Jiang Li. Aunt Guihua, following the plan, called for more people.
Sun Wenwen, seeing Li Ermazi swimming toward her, thought, “Oh no! Why did things go wrong? It was supposed to be Jiang Li!” Jiang Li stood by the shore, watching coldly. Many people came to the pond. They saw Li Ermazi saving a woman. The thin summer clothes meant they were close, ruining the woman’s reputation.
Aunt Guihua saw it wasn’t Jiang Li but Sun Wenwen and frowned. Her son had saved the wrong person. But Sun Wenwen was also a city girl, almost as good as Jiang Li. Her son marrying Sun Wenwen was still a good thing! Aunt Guihua decided to use this to her advantage. Sun Wenwen was pulled ashore.
The onlookers pointed at her, saying her reputation was ruined and she had to marry Li Ermazi. Sun Wenwen looked at Li Ermazi’s pockmarked face and almost vomited. Marrying him was worse than marrying her previous husband, Li Dachu. Li Dachu was diligent, better-looking, and his mother was nice.
Unlike Aunt Guihua, who tormented her daughter-in-law. Sun Wenwen suspected foul play, believing someone pushed her. The closest person was Jiang Li. Captain Li Changping arrived and heard what happened.
Sun Wenwen cried, accusing Jiang Li of pushing her. She had to drag Jiang Li down with her. Jiang Li showed no emotion, a slight smile playing on her lips. “Is that so? Sun Zhiqing, you say I pushed you. Do you have proof? Were there witnesses? I was here first.
You came later and fell.
“If I hadn’t dodged in time, you would have dragged me in with you.” After Jiang Li said this, two young women from the production team who were washing clothes nearby immediately came forward to testify on her behalf.
“I can testify that we were washing clothes by the river. Sun Zhiqing came and accidentally fell into the pond.” “Yes, Jiang Zhiqing heard the noise and dodged. Jiang Zhiqing stood still; how could she have pushed her? She fell in herself; she can’t blame Jiang Zhiqing.” Jiang Li noted the two women who helped her.
She would have to repay them later. Because of their testimony, Jiang Li was quickly cleared of suspicion. Li Changping, siding with Jiang Li, looked at Sun Wenwen. “Sun Zhiqing, there are witnesses, and you have no evidence.
Don’t falsely accuse people. False accusations carry legal consequences. If Jiang Zhiqing reports you to the police for slander, you’ll go to jail.” Sun Wenwen, having suffered a great loss and failed to implicate Jiang Li, cried even harder.
The gossip continued, and Sun Wenwen, unable to bear it, ran back to the educated youth’s quarters. Aunt Guihua watched Sun Wenwen leave, her eyes gleaming. The plan must continue. She needed to spread the news to force Sun Wenwen to marry her son. After Sun Wenwen left, Li Changping approached Jiang Li.
“Jiang Zhiqing, be careful when washing clothes in the future. It’s best to have someone with you; the water’s edge is dangerous.”
