Chapter 50: Beating Peng Zhigang in the Middle of the Night

Seeing that her roasted rabbit meat had been eaten clean, Jiang Li was happy; it was a testament to her cooking skills. After eating their fill, the three of them washed up. The well wasn’t usable yet; it would take several days to dig a well.

Once the well was dug, washing clothes would be much more convenient. After washing up, Jiang Li went to bed. She didn’t idle; she continued her cultivation.

Late at night, as Jiang Li was about to sleep, she noticed Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong’s movements. The two men quietly slipped out to get revenge on Peng Zhigang. To deal with Peng Zhigang, they had devised a plan to lure him.

They had asked a child from the team to help them in the afternoon, using Li Yuehong’s name to ask Peng Zhigang to meet in the grove at night. Li Yuehong had often asked him out like this before, so Peng Zhigang didn’t think much of it and didn’t suspect anything.

At the appointed time, Peng Zhigang quietly slipped out of the educated youth’s point in the middle of the night, planning to meet Li Yuehong at the agreed location. However, Peng Zhigang didn’t expect that as soon as he arrived at the grove, before he even saw Li Yuehong, a sack was suddenly thrown over his head.

Peng Zhigang let out a startled cry. But it was a grove, with no one passing by; even if Peng Zhigang shouted loudly, no one would hear him. Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong put the sack over Peng Zhigang’s head before beating him up.

After beating him unconscious, they felt relieved and returned to the educated youth’s point. Jiang Li knew everything they had done. Jiang Li didn’t think they were wrong for their revenge. Seeing Peng Zhigang beaten up, Jiang Li felt a sense of satisfaction.

She would let Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong vent their anger today; she could help them vent their anger again tomorrow.  Thinking of what Peng Zhigang would face tomorrow, Jiang Li felt a sense of schadenfreude.

Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong quietly returned to the educated youth’s courtyard and safely reached their room; no one else knew what had happened except Jiang Li. Feeling relieved, the two quickly fell asleep.

If they hadn’t dealt with Peng Zhigang today, they would have felt uncomfortable. No one in the educated youth’s point noticed Peng Zhigang’s absence.  He only returned to the educated youth’s point after he woke up the next day.

As soon as he returned, Peng Zhigang angrily confronted Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong, asking if they had beaten him. Peng Zhigang felt that he hadn’t offended anyone in the production team; besides Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong, no one would beat him up.

The people in the educated youth’s courtyard only then saw Peng Zhigang’s bruised and swollen face.

Seeing Peng Zhigang beaten up so badly, Jiang Li couldn’t help but laugh. Peng Zhigang glared at Jiang Li; he was already so miserable, how could she laugh at him?  Jiang Li met Peng Zhigang’s displeased gaze and retorted, “Oh, is that Peng Zhigang? I thought it was some pig’s head; I almost didn’t recognize you.

Tsk tsk tsk, Peng Zhigang, what bad things have you done to be beaten up so badly?” Peng Zhigang was already angry, and Jiang Li’s words almost made him explode. “Comrade Mu, Comrade Bai, you were the ones who beat me up, right? You must give me an explanation.”

Peng Zhigang shifted his gaze from Jiang Li, suppressing his anger, and continued to question Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong. Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong stood at the door, arms crossed, looking at Peng Zhigang with a cool expression. Compared to Peng Zhigang’s anger, they appeared much calmer. Mu Jingxun calmly said, “Comrade Peng, you need evidence to accuse someone.

How can you falsely accuse Bai Ziyong and me of beating you? Do you have any evidence? Did anyone see us beat you? You need evidence to accuse us; otherwise, Bai Ziyong and I will sue you for slander.” Evidence? Peng Zhigang had no evidence.

He had left secretly last night; no one had seen him. Although Peng Zhigang had no evidence, he still shouted, “Besides you two, I haven’t provoked anyone. If it wasn’t you who retaliated against me, who else could it be?” Mu Jingxun sneered again, “Comrade Peng, don’t think of us like that because you’re narrow-minded.

We’re not the same kind of people as you. You tried to frame Bai Ziyong and me yesterday, wanting the inspection team to find foreign books in our rooms. Bai Ziyong and I don’t even bother to argue with someone like you.

We didn’t hold it against you, yet you’re still trying to smear us; don’t you think you’re being too much?” Bai Ziyong snorted, “Brother Xun, why bother with this kind of person? If he has no evidence, don’t admit to it. If he’s not convinced, let him go to the team leader and complain.” Saying this, Bai Ziyong pulled Mu Jingxun into the room to eat breakfast.

Jiang Li had just made breakfast; it was fragrant, and wasting time arguing with someone like Peng Zhigang wasn’t worth it. Seeing that Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong didn’t take him seriously, Peng Zhigang’s anger grew. “Fine, fine, fine.

You just wait; I’ll go to the team leader and ask for justice.” Peng Zhigang quickly went to Li Changping. Li Changping roughly understood the situation and had an even greater prejudice against Peng Zhigang. Why hadn’t he realized before that Peng Zhigang was a troublemaker?

He increasingly felt that Peng Zhigang wasn’t suitable; he would ask the other educated youths for their opinions to see if they could replace him as the head of the educated youth’s courtyard.

He couldn’t believe one side of the story, so after Peng Zhigang’s complaint, Li Changping went to the educated youth’s point to understand the situation. He had to ask Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong what happened. Of course, before understanding the situation, Li Changping already leaned towards Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong.

When Li Changping and Peng Zhigang arrived at the educated youth’s point, Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong had just finished breakfast. Li Changping repeated Peng Zhigang’s complaint and asked them if it was true. In front of the team leader, Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong calmly said, “Team Leader, it’s not true. We didn’t beat Peng Zhigang, and he has no evidence to prove that we did.

” Seeing that the two denied it again, Peng Zhigang angrily said, “You’re lying! If it wasn’t you, who else could it be? You beat me up and won’t admit it!

Team Leader, you must do justice for me. Look at my injuries; they must compensate me for medical expenses and lost wages, at least two hundred yuan.”
