Chapter 56: Another attempt to frame Jiang Li

The saying goes, “A gift opens the door.”  Of course, she excluded Liu Yulan and Sun Wenwen from receiving meat.  She disliked Liu Yulan, and Sun Wenwen had tried to frame her. Jiang Li wasn’t going to reward them. 

Since Jiang Li had obtained the wolf meat, Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong had no objections to her distribution. Seeing the abundance of wolf meat, Mu Jingxun asked, “Comrade Jiang, can I buy a few jin from you?” He wanted to send some fresh meat to his teacher, Lin Cheng.  Jiang Li guessed Mu Jingxun wanted to give the meat to Lin Cheng.

  He took five jin.  Jiang Li then had Mu Jingxun cut several more jin of meat and sent it to the older educated youths.  They thanked her profusely.

 Liu Yulan and Sun Wenwen, seeing they hadn’t received any meat, were upset.  They felt Jiang Li was targeting them. Liu Yulan confronted Jiang Li, “Jiang Li, are you targeting us? Everyone else got meat, but not us! Why?” Jiang Li retorted, “Why? Because this meat is mine.

 I can give it to whomever I want.” “You… you…” Liu Yulan stammered, pointing at Jiang Li. Jiang Li frowned, “Liu Yulan, don’t point at me.

 Have you forgotten what happened last time? If you want another beating, just say so.” Liu Yulan remembered the beating and became subdued. The older educated youths, having received meat, defended Jiang Li.

 Liu Yulan, deflated, left. Sun Wenwen saw Liu Yulan’s defeat and thought she was useless.  To maintain an ally, Sun Wenwen incited Liu Yulan, “Jiang Li is powerful now. She’s bought everyone’s favor and is targeting us. Our lives will be difficult.” Liu Yulan lamented, “But what can we do? We can’t beat her.

” Liu Yulan touched her face, still hurting from the previous beating. Sun Wenwen said meaningfully, “We can’t beat her, but we can find a way to get rid of her.  If there’s a chance to deal with Jiang Li, you must be on my side.” Liu Yulan nodded, “Of course, Comrade Sun. We’re in the same boat.

” Sun Wenwen was pleased. She might need Liu Yulan’s help in framing Jiang Li. She planned to drug Jiang Li and have her sleep with Li Ermazi, forcing her to marry him and leave the educated youth center.

This would also end the rumors about Li Ermazi touching her. Jiang Li was unaware of Sun Wenwen’s plan.  Jiang Li sent five jin of meat to Captain Li Changping and Wu Meixia. They were grateful. Jiang Li said she had too much meat and couldn’t eat it all.  After giving some away, Jiang Li had about 80-90 jin left.

She asked if anyone wanted to trade goods for meat.  Some people traded eggs and grain for meat.  After these trades, Jiang Li had 60 jin left. Liu Yulan, envious, said, “Comrade Jiang, you’re engaging in speculation. I’ll report you!”  She then quickly distanced herself from Jiang Li. Jiang Li found her annoying.

 Before she could scold her, Ma Gui Xiang defended Jiang Li, “Comrade Liu, didn’t you hear the captain? We don’t do that here.  And Comrade Jiang is trading her meat for goods, not selling it.  So it’s not speculation.

 If you want to report her, go ahead.  But think about the consequences.” Ma Gui Xiang, having received meat, defended Jiang Li. She disliked Liu Yulan’s habit of reporting others. Liu Yulan, remembering the captain’s warning, fell silent.
