Chapter 58 Robbed
After agreeing on the price, Jiang Li, under the pretense of fetching the goods, borrowed a cart from Lu Feng. When she returned, the cart was laden with game. Lu Feng had his men weigh everything.
After weighing, Lu Feng paid Jiang Li, “Comrade, the total is 1230 yuan. Please count it.” The black market prices were high, especially for the bear paws and gall bladder, hence the high price. In the 1970s, 1230 yuan was a significant sum; it could buy a small house in Beijing. Jiang Li counted the money, satisfied with the accurate amount.
She put the money away. Lu Feng said, “Comrade, bring more goods if you have them.” “Okay.” Lu Feng cautioned, “There are many pickpockets. Be careful with your money.” Jiang Li appreciated his concern. Seeing Lu Feng was a good person, she gave him a charm, “Mr. Feng, I see a major calamity in your future.
This charm might protect you.” She wouldn’t give charms casually; they consumed her spiritual energy. Walking down the street, Jiang Li sensed someone following her. She smirked. She would make them pay. She slowed her pace, luring the thugs into an alley.
Jiang Li turned, arms crossed, looking at them with a defiant air. “Following me?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. The thugs realized she had known all along. They expected her to run, not lure them into a dead end.
They didn’t understand she’d done this to prevent their escape. “We’re robbing you. Give us your money, and we’ll let you go.” “Hand over the money, and you won’t get hurt.” Jiang Li didn’t offer the money but beckoned them closer. The thugs didn’t understand. “What do you mean? Don’t push us.”
“Hand it over, or we’ll take it.” Jiang Li said, “Come and try to take it.” Her cocky attitude was provocative. Enraged, the thugs attacked. Jiang Li calmly faced them. They were weak and posed no threat. She wouldn’t have bothered with them otherwise. She quickly knocked them to the ground with punches and kicks.
They cried out in pain. Jiang Li wasn’t satisfied, “Get up! I haven’t warmed up yet. This is boring.” The thugs, bruised and battered, couldn’t get up. Jiang Li kicked each of them again. “With such skills, you try to rob? Pathetic.
Do you want to go to the police, or pay up?” The thugs were shocked to be robbed themselves. “Haven’t decided? Jail or pay up?”
