Chapter 98 Jiang Li Captures Ghosts

Jiang Li pulled out two protective charms and a house-protection charm from her pocket and handed them to Lin Cheng.  In the past, Lin Cheng and Zhang Jing wouldn’t have believed in such things, but now, they had to.  Having these charms was better than nothing; they might prevent further incidents and spare their students trouble.

After dealing with Lin Cheng, many villagers approached the team leader, asking him to find a shaman or sorcerer to deal with Sun Wenwen’s ghost.  Otherwise, life would be unbearable.  Sun Wenwen was currently only draining the blood of chickens and ducks, but they feared she might turn to humans.  Although promoting superstition was forbidden, before the haunting, villagers avoided discussing such matters.  Now, however, it was impossible to keep quiet.

Team leader Li Changping was also at a loss.  The haunting caused widespread fear, affecting production.  He worried about more deaths.  Shengli Production Team had already faced enough misfortune this year.  But where could he find a capable sorcerer?

“The whole country is cracking down on feudal superstition.  Where am I supposed to find a sorcerer to deal with Sun Zhiqing’s ghost?”  The villagers were stumped.  To deal with the ghost, they needed a truly skilled sorcerer, but such individuals were in hiding.

Just as everyone was despairing, Li Changping remembered someone: Jiang Li.  She had cured his grandson using a type of incantation.  He didn’t know the extent of her abilities, but he thought it was worth asking.  If she could help, the problem would be solved.  He rushed to find her.

On his way, he encountered Jiang Li returning.  “Jiang Zhiqing, Jiang Zhiqing!” he called out urgently.

Jiang Li stopped, noticing his anxiety. “Team Leader, what’s wrong?”

Li Changping looked around, lowered his voice, and asked, “Jiang Zhiqing, you must know about the haunting.  I’m here to ask if you can exorcise ghosts.  Can you subdue Sun Zhiqing’s ghost?  She’s causing chaos, and if we don’t stop her, the brigade will be in utter disorder.”

Jiang Li also intended to subdue Sun Wenwen.  Li Changping’s request was convenient.  If she succeeded, she would become a hero, boosting her status in the brigade.

“Yes, Team Leader.  Help me gather some things, and I’ll subdue Sun Wenwen.”

Li Changping was thrilled.  “So you really can exorcise ghosts?”

Jiang Li didn’t hide her abilities.  Before, she had concealed her skills to avoid accusations of superstition.  But now, with the haunting, revealing her skills wouldn’t lead to accusations; instead, she would become a lifeline.  She listed the necessary items on a piece of paper for Li Changping to gather.  Even without them, she could subdue the ghost, but the ritual would add to her mystique.

The team leader quickly gathered the items.  They weren’t difficult to obtain; the brigade had rice.  He could also personally contribute some.  Only by subduing Sun Wenwen’s ghost could the brigade have peace.  Besides rice, he needed black dog blood.  He didn’t have a black dog, but he remembered Ma Dagui, whose family owned one.  Ma Dagui was Ma Xiaofeng’s father, the girl who had testified for Jiang Li.  Li Changping rushed to Ma Dagui’s house.

Ma Dagui, thinking he was being reprimanded, was surprised by Li Changping’s request.  Upon hearing about the need for black dog blood to exorcise the ghost, he agreed immediately, despite his reluctance to kill his dog.  The haunting had terrified everyone, especially after Ma Dagui’s family encountered the ghost the previous night.  Ma Xiaofeng had seen Sun Wenwen’s ghost.  “Alright, Team Leader, I’ll kill the dog.”
