Chapter 39.3
Xu Yuan had never paid much attention to Song Yu before. She only knew he was Meng Zhengrong’s good friend and a high-ranking executive at the company, but their interactions had been limited.
Then why did he give her cherries and bird’s nest?
And why didn’t he give them to her in front of Meng Zhengrong? The strangest part was that he asked her not to tell Meng Zhengrong. Looking back, it really was odd.
Xu Yuan had her own concerns. She wanted to tell Meng Zhengrong about Song Yu’s actions when she got home, but she instinctively felt that would be inappropriate. She was conflicted all the way home, and when she arrived, instead of going directly into the villa, she sat on the swing in the yard. After hesitating for a long time, she dialed Yuyu’s phone number.
Yuyu was trustworthy, being the original’s best friend, and she could tell during their interactions that she was a very sincere person.
After a while, Yuyu picked up the phone, her voice sounding relaxed. “What’s up?”
Xu Yuan wasn’t quite sure how to bring up the topic, so she started with something else. “Are you going to sleep?”
If Yu Yu was going to bed, she didn’t want to disturb her.
Yu Yu chuckled softly. “I’m not that obedient, it’s not even midnight yet. I’m soaking in the bath while drinking red wine. Ah, vacations are so great!”
After a moment of hesitation, Yuyu asked with a smile, “So what’s going on? Is there anything you can’t tell me?”
That was true; since she had made the call, there was no reason to hold back.
“I wanted to ask you about something. There’s someone I don’t know well. He found me and brought me some gifts, saying he had someone bring them from abroad. Then he called me and said he wanted to treat me to a meal. What’s going on?”
Xu Yuan didn’t explain everything clearly. If she told Yuyu that the cherries and bird’s nest were given to her by someone else, it would nullify the touching moment she had this afternoon and would be too awkward.
Yuyu was someone who loved gossip. As soon as she heard this, she sat up straight in the bathtub, eager to know more. “He sent you gifts and wants to take you out to eat? Are you sure?”
Xu Yuan thought about Song Yu’s every action today and nodded. Realizing Yu Yu couldn’t see her, she responded, “Yeah.”
“Then it’s obvious, this guy must want to pursue you. By the way, does he know you’re married?”
“He knows. He’s also Meng Zhengrong’s friend.”
Yuyu clicked her tongue. “That’s really unethical, but there are people like that in their circle.”
Xu Yuan felt restless, thinking that encountering this situation was really frustrating.
If Song Yu truly had those intentions, how should she handle it?
Noticing Xu Yuan hadn’t replied, Yuyu cautiously asked, “So what are you planning to do?”
“I don’t know.” Xu Yuan had faced many challenges before but had never encountered something like this. She had no experience.
After thinking for a moment, Yuyu asked, “Do you want to divorce Mr. Meng?”
“I don’t.”
Yu Yu sighed in relief. “Then if you don’t want to, this matter needs to be handled well. If it’s not handled properly, it can easily become gossip. How about this: if that person flirts with you again, be straightforward with him. Also, warn him that if he continues, you’ll tell Mr. Meng.”
“Is that okay?” Xu Yuan was a bit skeptical.
“Let me ask you this: is that guy richer and more powerful than Mr. Meng?”
“…No.”
“Then that’s settled. People like him who lack character are usually the most cowardly at heart. If you threaten him like this, see if he dares to continue. If he does, just tell Mr. Meng. After all, there’s no need to associate with a friend who covets someone else’s wife.”
Xu Yuan thought Yuyu made a good point. “Okay, I’ll do that. I hope he stops. It’s quite stressful.”
Yuyu said, “If he dares to pester you privately, tell me. I’ll find some guys to deal with him, make him unable to take care of himself, and see if he still dares to flirt with a married woman.”
“…Thanks.”
“Hey, why are you thanking me for this? Alright, I won’t say any more. I need to take a shower now.”
“Okay, bye.”
After hanging up, Xu Yuan felt a lot lighter. Yuyu was right; if Song Yu really had those intentions, it was too despicable. If he didn’t hide it any longer, then having a friend like that around Meng Zhengrong would be a danger.
When Xu Yuan returned to the bedroom, Meng Zhengrong was lying on the bed watching a variety show.
Seeing her come back, he quickly sat up, pretending to be serious. “I thought you wouldn’t come back until after midnight.”
It wasn’t that he was angry; after all, even after getting married, she was still herself. Wanting to hang out with friends was normal.
He just wanted to tease her a little.
Little did he know that Xu Yuan wasn’t in the mood to guess his intentions and casually responded before heading to the bathroom in her pajamas.
Meng Zhengrong: “…”
Half an hour later, Xu Yuan came out of the bathroom. After completing her skincare routine as usual, she lay down on the bed. Meng Zhengrong decided not to hold a grudge and naturally wrapped his arms around her.
Xu Yuan wanted to indirectly remind Meng Zhengrong, but she didn’t want to be too obvious.
“Zhengrong.”
Meng Zhengrong was enjoying the moment of holding her in his arms with his eyes closed when he heard her call his name and just responded with a “Hmm.”
“I watched a movie with Yuyu today.”
“Yeah.”
“The movie was pretty cliché. The male lead was with the female lead, but the male lead’s best friend liked the female lead… Have you ever encountered something like this before?”
Meng Zhengrong thought about another incident. If he remembered correctly, her previous cowardly and scummy ex-boyfriend was actually cheating with her friend. Since this had happened to her before, she must be very sensitive about it. Suddenly, he said with indignation, “I despise people like that the most. When someone has a boyfriend or girlfriend, and they still covet them, it’s simply lowly. If two people sneak around and get together, they’re just scum. They say friends’ wives are off-limits, but it’s the same for both men and women.”
Meng Zhengrong couldn’t tolerate this kind of behavior. After all, no man would allow someone else to covet his wife.
Xu Yuan leaned against Meng Zhengrong’s embrace, slightly raising her head to look at him. Setting aside how Meng Zhengrong was in other aspects, he certainly wouldn’t covet his best friend’s partner. Then she thought of Song Yu. If he truly had improper intentions toward her, that was just too much. He looked decent, and he was even close friends with Meng Zhengrong; it was simply too despicable!
Without comparison, one wouldn’t notice the difference, but in comparison, Meng Zhengrong’s image suddenly became tall and majestic.
Yes, he was indeed very good—not only as a person but also as a man; he was qualified.
Thinking of this, Xu Yuan subconsciously hugged his waist.

I feel sorry for Song Yu being misunderstood due to Xu Yuan’s lack of memories, lol. If she questions him about it, though, it’ll definitely be revealed that something isn’t right with her, which would then explain her different personality and overall demeanor.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
