Chapter 10: Today Is a Good Day
After thinking for a moment, An Xiyan said, “Uncle Meng, over the next few days, once we’ve finished tidying up the house, take the deed and go to the broker’s office to sell this estate. Then we’ll head straight for the capital.”
“Yes, Miss,” Meng Guangping nodded in agreement.
An Xiyan stood up, lifting little An Xixuan with her left hand, who had been sitting to the side. With a wave of her right hand, she said, “Alright, everyone get to your own tasks.”
“Yes, Miss,” the Tangyuan family responded in unison.
He Lianrong smiled and said, “Miss, I’ll take you and the young master to the master and madam’s room. I know where the valuables are kept.”
“Mm, I’ll trouble you then, Aunt Meng,” An Xiyan said, carrying little An Xixuan as she followed He Lianrong toward her parents’ room.
After entering the room, He Lianrong headed straight to the small tea table by the bed where a delicate little vase was placed. She rotated it a few times.
A creaking sound slowly echoed out—
“Creak… creak…”
The wall behind the bed suddenly opened. Faint light glowed from within the opening.
“Wow…” An Xixuan’s eyes were filled with amazement. He exclaimed, “Sister, there’s actually a secret room in Father and Mother’s room? How come Xuan’er didn’t know about this?”
“Little brother, you’re not the only one who didn’t know. Even I had no idea,” An Xiyan said, equally astonished.
She knew it—her shameless parents definitely had an unusual background. What kind of ordinary family would have a hidden room in their home?
“Miss, Young Master, you may come in now,” He Lianrong called after taking a careful look around the secret room to confirm there was no danger.
An Xiyan nodded, holding An Xixuan tightly as she strode into the secret room.
As she looked around, she saw large luminous pearls placed all around, illuminating the entire room as brightly as daylight.
Inside the secret room were all kinds of treasures—chests big and small, filled with gold, silver, and jade artifacts.
Oh my goodness, this was almost blinding.
There was so much here, her eyes could barely take it all in.
No wonder Uncle Meng had said the wealth her parents left for her and her little brother would be enough for them to live lavishly their whole lives.
With this much money to spend, who even needed to run a business?
Still, she would run one anyway. Even though her parents’ money was great, there was something more satisfying about spending money she earned herself—fewer concerns to worry about.
He Lianrong walked up to the siblings with a delicate wooden box in her hands. She opened it and took out a thick ledger from inside.
She handed it to An Xiyan.
Smiling, she explained, “Miss, this ledger contains a detailed inventory of everything in the secret room. Every item is clearly recorded. You can open it and have a look.”
An Xiyan nodded, then gently placed An Xixuan down on the floor and took the ledger, flipping it open.
The first thing she saw written was:
E
Three chests of luminous pearls:
200 large,
300 medium,
500 small.
(Fifty medium-sized ones used for lighting are not included in this count and are listed separately.)
Five chests of 50-tael gold ingots:
200 ingots × 50 taels = 10,000 taels of gold
5 × 10,000 = 50,000 taels of gold
Five chests of 20-tael gold ingots:
500 ingots × 20 taels = 10,000 taels of gold
5 × 10,000 = 50,000 taels of gold
Ten chests of 10-tael gold ingots:
500 ingots × 10 taels = 5,000 taels of gold
10 × 5,000 = 50,000 taels of gold
Five chests of 100-tael silver ingots:
100 ingots × 100 taels = 10,000 taels of silver
5 × 10,000 = 50,000 taels of silver
Oh my god—An Xiyan’s eyes were practically going blurry. She couldn’t read every line one by one, so here’s the gist of what else was inside:
Ten chests of 50-tael silver ingots,
Twenty chests of 20-tael silver ingots,
Thirty chests of 10-tael silver ingots,
Forty chests of 5-tael silver ingots,
Fifty chests of 1-tael silver ingots,
Fifty chests of copper coins, each containing 100 taels.
One chest of gold peanuts,
One chest of gold melon seeds,
One chest of gold leaves,
Five chests of hair ornaments,
Five chests of jewelry,
Five chests of jade pendants,
Five chests of pearls.
There were also some priceless rare books, paintings, poetry, and prose—many of which were collector’s treasures that money simply couldn’t buy. Their value was beyond measure.
An Xiyan’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. As someone who was practically obsessed with wealth, this room was exactly her kind of paradise.
She couldn’t help bursting out in loud laughter, completely overjoyed. Her swagger was off the charts as she began to sing and dance without even realizing it:
“Ah… today is a good day—
Everything I wish for comes my way…”
An Xixuan blinked up at her with wide eyes, full of confusion.
What’s going on with Sister?
Could it be… as their mother once said… she’s having some kind of seizure?
He immediately grew anxious and tugged on the hem of An Xiyan’s dress. “Sister, what’s wrong? Don’t scare Xuan’er like that, you look really scary right now!”
An Xiyan was jolted back to reality by his voice. She quickly shut her mouth, stopped her exaggerated dance moves, and cleared her throat a few times to cover her embarrassment.
Oh no! She had lost control for a moment, letting her excitement get the best of her. How shameful.
She forced a serious expression…
Calmly, An Xiyan smiled and said, “Little brother, I’m fine. Don’t worry. I’m just really happy seeing all this treasure in one place.”
He Lianrong kept her head down, trying hard to stifle her laughter—she knew the young miss’s personality all too well.
She thought to herself, Madam truly is amazing. She predicted everything so accurately. She said that once Miss saw all this wealth, she’d be so overjoyed her smile wouldn’t leave her face.
And sure enough, just like Madam had said, Miss had reacted exactly as expected.
Catching a glimpse of the expressions on her little brother and Aunt Meng’s faces, An Xiyan felt her heart skip a beat. Oh no, she thought. I really can’t get too carried away.
She quickly said, “Little brother, Aunt Meng, it’s getting late. Please step aside for now—I’m going to store all of this into my space.”
“Alright, Miss,” He Lianrong quickly replied, eager to help Miss escape any further embarrassment. She grabbed An Xixuan and brought him over to stand by the entrance of the secret room.
The two of them stared eagerly at An Xiyan, clearly curious to see how she would manage to pack up all this treasure into that magical space of hers.
An Xiyan noticed their expectant expressions and chuckled softly. Since the space had already been revealed to them, she no longer saw any reason to hide it.
In a playful voice, she said, “Watch closely, I’m going to pack everything up right now!”
With that, she gave a graceful wave of her delicate, fair hand—
And in an instant, everything in the secret room vanished into her space.
The entire room was now completely empty.
“Wow… that’s incredible!” exclaimed little An Xixuan, his eyes wide with wonder, clearly amazed by what he’d just witnessed.
He Lianrong’s face was full of shock, and her voice trembled slightly. “Miss… that was unbelievably fast. I didn’t even have time to blink and you had already taken everything!”
“This is truly an eye-opener. Honestly, Miss, your speed is even faster than Madam’s. If she saw this, she’d definitely be stunned.”
An Xiyan’s eyes lit up with interest—suddenly she was curious about her mother’s storage pouch. She quickly asked, “Aunt Meng, how does my mother store things in her storage pouch?”
He Lianrong thought for a moment before replying, “Madam needs to physically touch the items to put them into her pouch. Compared to that, what you have is much more convenient—you don’t need to touch anything at all.”
“Oh, so that’s how it works,” An Xiyan nodded in understanding.
It seemed her mother’s storage pouch wasn’t nearly as convenient as her own space. As long as things were within a certain range, she could store them with just a thought.
All in all, her space was simpler, more convenient, and far more efficient to use.
