Chapter 31
When the two were ready to go back, there were only a few minutes left until nine o’clock.
When I arrived in a hurry, there were already many people in the carriage. Xiao Wang, a soldier who was on duty as a driver, was leaning against the carriage with an almost finished cigarette in his hand.
“Captain Zhao, you’re here!”
Xiao Wang smiled and was not angry because of the two’s lateness.
“Sorry, I’m late.”
Zhao Xingyu apologized sincerely. He wanted to buy all the beautiful clothes for his young wife, so he neglected the time.
“No way, you are very punctual. Just in time!”
Xiao Wang teased with a smile.
The atmosphere suddenly became relaxed.
“Okay, stop flattering us and get going.”
“We’ve been waiting here for a while. If we keep talking, how long will it take for us to go back?”
A discordant voice came from behind.
Qi Sisi looked up and saw Aunt Han, with Miao Cuicui beside her.
Both were dressed in homespun clothes. Miao Cuicui wore a floral dress and cotton trousers. Aunt Han was dressed similarly, but with older patterns and a headscarf on her head. At first glance, she looked ten years older.
I didn’t expect to meet them here.
“Huh,” Xiao Wang looked inside the carriage with a look of surprise, “I remember not seeing you in the morning? Everyone is here…”
This mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are famous in the army.
But it’s not a good reputation.
One is a sarcastic mother-in-law, and the other is a new daughter-in-law who had an affair before marriage. Unfortunately, the two of them are not getting along, and have been making jokes in the guesthouse recently. Even people who don’t like gossip have heard about it.
Aunt Han looked awkward and said unhappily: “We went out yesterday afternoon and missed the bus back, so we stayed in town for one night.”
Xiao Wang frowned. I thought that they would count the number of people every time they returned so that no one would be left behind.
The car left unless the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were too late or had no intention of going back at all.
“Did anything happen to you in town? Which hotel did you stay in?”
Xiao Wang asked tentatively.
“No, I’m living in a fellow villager’s house,” Aunt Han answered a few words and then became impatient, waving her hand and said, “Why are you asking so many questions? Can you go back?”
“Okay!”
Although Xiao Wang felt it was a bit strange, he thought that the two women would not cause any trouble, so he let it go.
“You guys get in.”
He turned around and said to Zhao Xingyu, “Captain Zhao, you guys get in too.”
“Okay, thank you for your hard work.”
Zhao Xingyu put away his crutches and got in the passenger seat with the help of Qi Sisi.
There is no way, he is still a “patient” now, if he is going to act, he has to do it completely.
“This is not fair!”
Aunt Han was walking to the back of the carriage. When she saw this scene, she immediately yelled.
“Young man, why can they sit in the front? We can only sit in the back. We all arrived at the same time, why?”
Xiao Wang paused in his action of getting on the bus, walked over and shouted, “There are so many people sitting in the carriage, do you know why they didn’t ask?”
“They are stupid!”
Aunt Han sneered, with a complacent tone: “I’m not as stupid as them. He is a soldier; he should contribute his seat. Why does he enjoy special treatment? I’m an old man, and I also want to sit in the front seat.”
The leather seats are spacious and comfortable, which is completely different from the iron plates in the carriage. What’s more, there are so many people in one carriage, it’s stuffy and hot.
Xiao Wang laughed angrily and subconsciously grasped the pistol at his waist with his big hand and said in a shocking voice: “You are right about one thing. Just because Captain Zhao is a soldier and he was injured in the line of duty and his leg has not healed yet, it is reasonable for me to give him a seat.” “
As for you?”
He looked up and down at Han’s mother, his eyes picky and disgusted.
If it weren’t for the fact that she was the mother of a soldier in the army, he wouldn’t have wanted to take this vulgar old woman along.
“Apart from your age, have you made any contribution to the army? Have you ever made cloth shoes or sewn cotton jackets for the army? You enjoy the comfortable life brought about by the sacrifices of the soldiers, and you still have the nerve to question? Who gave you the courage!”
He was aggressive and his tone was heavy. Han’s mother lowered her head little by little and could not raise her head.
There was an awkward atmosphere in the air.
“Well said!”
There was a burst of applause in the carriage.
“Xiao Wang is right. We enjoy the comfort brought by the soldiers. What’s wrong with giving them some honors? It doesn’t harm anyone’s interests.” “
Besides, Captain Zhao is a wounded patient and belongs to the vulnerable group. We should take care of him.”
“People’s lives are improving day by day, but some people’s ideas are still corrupt. In my opinion, they should be arrested for reform and made aware of their wrong ideas!”
Hearing these two words, Han’s mother trembled and said in a trembling voice: “No, not really. I, I just questioned it. I didn’t do anything…”
Seeing that the situation was not good, Miao Cuicui quickly added: “Comrade Wang, my mother-in-law, she just thought wrong for a moment, she doesn’t have any bad intentions. It is normal for Captain Zhao to sit in a seat since he is injured. We have no objection. Don’t you think so, mother-in-law?”
After that, she poked Han’s mother beside her hard.
This old hag has a foul mouth. It’s ok that she just curses at everything at home, but she’s so ignorant outside, in front of so many people. If she is really arrested and sent for reform, then Brother Gui Bing will also be implicated. How can she live the life of a rich wife!
“Yes, yes, yes, I have no objection. I’m just asking…”
Han’s mother breathed a sigh of relief.
Although she didn’t hear clearly what her daughter-in-law meant by the long string of words, the situation was not right and she had to admit her mistake!
“That’s better!”
The driver, Xiao Wang, glared at the two men fiercely, his eyes full of scrutiny.
It seems that he needs to report to his superiors and ask them to strengthen the ideological and political work for military dependents.
What if this happens a few more times and hurts the soldiers’ feelings!
During the conversation, Zhao Xingyu had already gotten up from his seat.
“Captain Zhao, what are you doing?” Xiao Wang was a little apprehensive, and hurriedly tried to persuade him to stay, “I’ve already said it all, you don’t have to mind it, it’s empty anyway if you don’t sit down.”
Zhao Xingyu smiled and shook his head. “Since the masses have objections, I naturally cannot accept these special treatments. I will wait for the leadership’s instructions later.”
Xiao Wang hesitated to speak.
Finally, he sighed and didn’t try to persuade her any further.
Zhao Xingyu came to the back of the carriage with the help of a crutch, and Qi Sisi was carrying the clothes and candies they had bought.
The military dependents who had already boarded the bus quickly made room for him and helped him get in.
Qi Sisi put her things on the bus and got into the carriage.
After fastening the door panels of the carriage, the driver Xiao Wang got into the driver’s seat and started his return journey.
The car started to move shakily.
“Captain Zhao, why are you doing this?”
“Yeah, other people with inferior thinking don’t understand, but we can all understand. It would be such a shame if you got hurt!”
Someone in the carriage felt sorry for him.
