Chapter 46: You have white teeth? What are you showing off?

Ming Leyao leaned lazily against the car, her lashes lifting as her gaze occasionally landed on the man who hadn’t said a word since his appearance. Her soft lips curved in a faint, mocking smile—too subtle to be noticed in the deep night.

The few men Qin Penghai had left behind huddled together, whispering.

“Gazi, I take back what I said before, about all women being the same with the lights off. That’s total bullshit…”

After speaking, he couldn’t help but glance at Ming Leyao again. Even though it was dark, that flash of red was impossible to ignore.

“Hey, when do you guys think I’ll be able to bed a woman that beautiful?” one of them sighed, but just as the words left his mouth, a chill shot down his spine. Goosebumps rose, and his scalp tingled like he was being targeted for an assassination. He quickly looked around, only to see his comrades chatting casually, none looking his way.

Scratching his head in confusion—was it just his imagination?

What he didn’t know was that, in the shadows, Fu Wencheng’s hands were clenched tightly. If he didn’t hold them back, he feared they’d fly uncontrollably toward that guy’s skull the next second.

“How boring,” Ming Leyao said suddenly, her voice playful. “Why don’t a couple of you come and chat with me?”

Her gaze swept over the ten men across from her. They looked at each other, none daring to move. Joke’s on them—this demon of a woman had a gun and mood swings. Who knew what might set her off and send them straight to meet their ancestors?

“No one volunteering? Tsk, I’m really not happy now.”

As her words fell, the men gathered around her instantly raised their weapons again, aiming at the ten men opposite them. The group instantly shrank back, trembling as they pushed one another forward.

“You go.”

“No, no, let Second Brother go.”

“No, let him go.”

“Better send Gazi… he’s a dumb brute, I bet Miss Kang would love talking to him.”

That last line—clearly bullshit—was something everyone knew but no one refuted. In the end, poor Gazi was pushed forward and plopped in front of Ming Leyao.

“M-M-Miss Kang… this is… this is Gazi… he’s… uh, honest… hehehe…”

“Oh? Honest? That works too,” she replied with a smile.

Then she turned and got into the car. Gazi followed. The moment the door closed, his previously dopey expression disappeared, and Fu Wencheng pinned Ming Leyao beneath him, his eyes bloodshot as he growled near her ear:

“Yaoyao, you’re way too bold.”

The scent of soap and freshness clung to him. Ming Leyao chuckled, “Fu Wencheng, that’s how it has to be for it to work. Otherwise, how much longer do you think you’d be undercover to finish this mission?”

Cruel as it sounded, it was the truth.

Fu Wencheng had been undercover for nearly two months. Though he kept in touch with his team, he’d once gotten injured after being found out. Thankfully, Yaoyao’s skills were top-notch—so good that even he couldn’t tell where he was hurt. That allowed him to blend in further with the enemy.

But Qin Penghai, whether it was past betrayals or pure paranoia, never fully trusted his own men. He kept a lot hidden, and Fu still hadn’t found out who the supplier was. They couldn’t arrest Qin too soon either, or they’d spook the bigger fish. The entire operation had been stuck in a frustrating limbo.

He never imagined this little girl’s interference would skip the whole middle part and go straight to the end…

Good as that may be, Fu Wencheng’s heart had been in his throat ever since he saw her.

His muscles stayed tense, ready to act in a split second—even if it meant blowing his cover—to get her out safely.

“You…”

There were so many things he wanted to say, but now that he could, the words choked in his throat. Mainly because… he had no standing. The girl hadn’t even given him a proper identity.

Thinking about it made him even more frustrated.

“Fu Wencheng,” Ming Leyao said calmly, “I’m not someone you can define with one personality. I’m unpredictable. You better get used to it—or you won’t be qualified to stand beside me.”

Ouch. That one hit hard.

Fu Wencheng suddenly sat up and ran a hand over his face. With a serious expression, he said, “Yaoyao, I only care about one thing—your safety. That’s all.”

“Relax. I still have a lot of good days ahead. I’m very fond of staying alive,” she replied, especially after getting a second chance at life.

“Alright, enough talk. Grandpa Cui’s already arranged personnel outside, and we’ve coordinated with your unit. Tonight, we’re bringing them all down in one sweep.”

“Mm. Among the people you brought, some are from our unit.”

“Huh?” Ming Leyao looked confused, her pretty face clouded with a hint of blankness. Fu Wencheng’s heart nearly melted.

So cute.

That thought turned into action—he reached out to ruffle her hair.

“What are you doing? Don’t mess up my hairstyle.”

“The texture of your hair is…”

“Wig. Don’t touch it. If you mess it up, you’re paying for it.”

Fu the Clueless: “……”

A wig? Seriously???

“By the way, how do you know Mayor Cui?” he asked.

“Mm… long story.”

“Then tell it briefly?” he teased.

Ming Leyao glared at him, and he flashed a wide grin, showing eight gleaming white teeth.

Hmph. Show off.

She whispered to him how she had met Mayor Cui. Fu Wencheng sighed, marveling at how fate worked. But then again, it was also because his girl was kind and capable. Otherwise, fate wouldn’t mean much if she couldn’t seize opportunity.

“The Cui family’s a good bunch.”

“I know,” she nodded.

Fu Wencheng didn’t linger in the car long—just twenty minutes or so—before getting out again, putting his honest expression back on. To avoid suspicion, Ming Leyao also called a few more people in to talk. If they could gather intel, great. If not, just keep them on ice.

Qin Penghai returned right on time—two hours later—with a man and a woman in tow.

The man wore a Zhongshan suit and a hat, concealing his features. The woman had jet-black hair loosely tied behind her head, a red top paired with black trousers, and black leather shoes clicking pridefully behind the man.

“Miss Kang, this is the one. Aren’t you coming out to meet them?”

Click. The car door opened. Ming Leyao stepped out gracefully, casually playing with a cigar, eyes scanning the newcomers.

“How should I address you?”

“You may call me Comrade Tang,” the man replied.

“Mr. Tang… I wonder, do you have enough goods to make this risk worth it for me?”

“I’m sorry, Miss Kang. What you’re asking for is quite a lot. I don’t have that much on hand.”

“Don’t have it? Is that how Mr. Tang does business? Saying nothing and then just telling the client—”
