After leaving Commissar Wang’s office, Xie Xiaojun headed straight to the adjacent office of the regiment commander.
He planned to report the recent developments.
However, upon opening the door, he saw Commander Zhou standing against the wall, holding a teacup.
Without much thought, Xie Xiaojun rushed over and pressed his ear against the wall.
Zhou Jinchuan looked at him speechlessly and asked, “What are you doing?”
Xie Xiaojun grinned sheepishly and replied, “Aren’t you listening too, Commander?”
Zhou Jinchuan shot him a glance and said, “I’m examining the wall plaster. Look at how it’s peeling off. Get someone to repaint it later.”
Xie Xiaojun, surprised, looked up and after a moment, noticed a tiny crack.
“Got it! I’ll arrange for someone to fix it tomorrow.”
With that, Xie Xiaojun, still feeling somewhat unsatisfied, started chatting with Zhou Jinchuan about what he had seen and heard in the compound.
“Commander, what do you think will happen to Qin Yunfeng this time? Even though Commissar Wang is being partial, he can’t possibly let it go without any action.”
Zhou Jinchuan didn’t absorb a single word of it; his mind was occupied with her few heartfelt words.
What Does It All Mean?
As she pondered this, the door to the adjacent office suddenly opened, and someone stepped out—
After leaving Commissar Wang’s office, Su Yi stopped in front of Zhou Jinchuan’s door.
She was considering whether to return the clothes now or later and heard voices inside, so she hesitated to enter and disturb them.
Just as she was about to leave and find a more opportune moment to return the clothes, Commissar Wang burst out of his office with a smile, saying, “Good thing you didn’t go far. I just realized you might not know where Commander Zhou’s office is. I’ll take you there and report what happened just now.”
Su Yi understood that he was trying to confirm whether she knew Zhou Jinchuan and also to prevent her from complaining about Zhou to him.
She had relied on Zhou Jinchuan’s clothes to get him to “administer justice.”
If he discovered she was bluffing, it would be a problem.
With the thought of Zhou Jinchuan’s previous remarks about pretending not to know her, she felt uncertain.
But Commissar Wang had already knocked on the door, so Su Yi had no choice but to bravely enter with the clothes in hand.
Seeing the two of them, Zhou Jinchuan was momentarily surprised, then spoke in a neutral tone, “Commissar Wang, is there something you need?”
Commissar Wang appeared very respectful on the surface. “Commander Zhou, I’ve handled the matter from earlier. I’m here to report it to you.”
Although the commissar and the regiment commander were of the same rank, their responsibilities differed. Commissar Wang’s excessive deference suggested that his humility was perhaps more about recognizing Zhou Jinchuan’s background than genuine respect.
Zhou Jinchuan paused briefly and said, “Commissar Wang can handle these matters. There’s no need to report them to me.”
Commissar Wang smiled and quickly briefed Zhou Jinchuan on the situation, mindful of Su Yi’s presence and careful not to speak indiscreetly.
“Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin were both severely reprimanded by me earlier, and they have also given Comrade Su some compensation.”
[What a load of nonsense! That compensation is just the mental anguish fee I earned with my own skills!]
“Comrade Su is understanding and has agreed not to pursue the matter further.”
[What do you mean, ‘not pursue’? I’m just putting it on hold for now, do you understand ‘temporarily’?]
Zhou Jinchuan’s eyelids twitched as he alternated between listening to Commissar Wang and the woman’s inner voice.
The dialogue seemed to play off one another, like a comedy routine.
Suppressing a smile, Zhou Jinchuan cleared his throat and said, “Commissar Wang, although Comrade Su has decided not to pursue the matter, the incident has caused a significant commotion in the compound and has had an extremely negative impact. I would have thought you would impose some disciplinary actions on the two individuals.”
Commissar Wang was momentarily stunned but soon replied with a smile, “Commander Zhou is right. However, both of them are long-standing members of our regiment and usually perform well. This incident was simply a lapse in their youthful judgment and did not result in an irreparable situation. I think it’s best to handle it with discretion, focusing on education.”
“I’ve already warned Qin Yunfeng, removed him from this round of evaluations, and asked him to write a self-criticism.”
Zhou Jinchuan thought for a moment and said, “Since Commissar Wang feels that way, then Bai Ruolin should also write a self-criticism. Additionally, it would be appropriate to record a major demerit for both of them and issue a public reprimand.”
Commissar Wang’s expression darkened slightly, but he did not dare to argue and reluctantly agreed.
Zhou Jinchuan usually didn’t involve himself in such personal matters. Could it be that he was actually taking out Su Yi’s frustration for her?
Noticing the clothes Su Yi was holding, Commissar Wang smiled and said, “Comrade Su, that jacket looks a bit familiar. Do you know Commander Zhou?”
Su Yi’s breath caught, and she glanced nervously at Zhou Jinchuan, who remained expressionless.
Determined, she handed over the jacket and said, “I accidentally got my clothes wet on the way here. Fortunately, Commander Zhou happened to pass by and lent me this coat. Thank you for the jacket, Commander Zhou!”
[Sorry about this, but since they joined forces to bully me first, I can only use your tiger skin as a banner.]
Seeing her look of guilt, Zhou Jinchuan simply accepted the jacket with a soft “It’s fine.”
Su Yi breathed a sigh of relief and quickly bid farewell before leaving.
With some money in her pocket, Su Yi decided not to linger in the compound and headed out to find a guesthouse to stay in.
Before she could exit the compound, she was quickly surrounded by a group of people.
“Miss, how did it go?”
Su Yi smiled awkwardly and said, “Thank you for speaking up for me earlier. I’ve broken off the engagement with Comrade Qin, and we have no further ties.”
The crowd immediately inquired about the punishments for the two individuals involved.
Su Yi didn’t hide anything and shared all the information she knew.
Upon hearing this, the crowd expressed their discontent, “Silly girl, you’ve been deceived by them. It’s really unfortunate for you. Such a pity!”
They sympathized with Su Yi and took the opportunity to privately criticize the two individuals involved.
Su Yi thanked everyone once more with a smile before finally exiting the compound.
As she made her way to the guesthouse, she reviewed her plans.
Returning to her original family was out of the question. That family was notorious for their cruelty, treating her as though she were not even their own. They subjected her to severe abuse and harsh criticism. Going back would mean being trapped in their control with little chance of escape.
In the original story, even though the protagonist hadn’t offended the female lead, she still met a tragic end. Now that Su Yi had completely fallen out with the female lead, it was unlikely that the female lead would let her off easily.
Simply hiding would be futile; she needed to act first.
Thinking about the space treasure the female lead acquired by chance after her rebirth in the original novel, Su Yi was tempted. If she stayed nearby, observing the female lead from a distance, and managed to get hold of the space after the female lead’s rebirth, she would not only gain a strong support but also take away a powerful tool used to harm others.
As for Qin Yunfeng, she had refrained from pressing charges earlier because she didn’t want to separate him from Bai Ruolin just yet. Keeping the status quo would ensure that they remained together and could be dealt with more effectively later on.
After all, Bai Ruolin was adamant about denying their relationship and had powerful backing, so she was likely to stay in place.
Regarding the grudge of being thrown into the water, Su Yi had no evidence at the moment. She planned to wait until she was more settled before seeking an opportunity for revenge.
