Chapter 38: Epilogue – And Then, The Two of Them…

The Wolf Witch had been destroyed. Or to be precise, should I say the curse had been broken? I had lost my consciousness after I finished activating the light magic. I heard Dietrich-sama was the one who carried me and a lot of knights saw that spectacle before their own eyes. 

This was the moment that made me think I could never return to the Royal Knight ever again. 

The Wolf Witch had vanished, disappearing without even leaving a single grain behind. It seemed the old castle was sealed and no one was allowed to enter it.

The Wolf Witch’s curse was a terrifying one. I never would’ve thought the Fenrir family was under a curse that made them see the Wolf Witch as their loved one and changed how they saw their real loved one.

Dietrich-sama’s younger brother, Gilbert-sama, didn’t fall under that curse because he didn’t have anyone he loved. Thanks to that fact, we were still able to salvage a good chunk of our war potential. If both Fenrir brothers were to come attacking us, we wouldn’t be able to cope with it. Gilbert-sama held the key to our victory. 

The Wolf Witch had been destroyed but it was decided the Fenrir First Cavalry Division would still continue its operation. It seemed they’d continue to take over the case that the Royal Knight couldn’t solve. The First Cavalry Division that was led by Dietrich-sama was pretty busy everyday. The only thing I could do was support Dietrich-sama. 

Then one day, Dietrich-sama summoned me. He was looking somewhat nervous. 

“Dietrich-sama, is there something wrong?”

“Hm. First, take a seat.”

Dietrich-sama said that as he tapped on his lap. The position that he offered for me to sit was a weird one. I sat down in front of Dietrich-sama. The look of shock was visible on his face. 

“Melodia, why didn’t you sit on my lap?”

“I don’t think there’s a single person who’d say ‘oh, excuse me then’ when being offered to sit on someone’s lap.”

Once again, Dietrich-sama had a shocked expression on his face but then, he quickly returned to his serious look. After clearing his throat, Dietrich-sama uttered the second unbelievable remark for today. 

“Well then, as the captain of the Fenrir Knight, I command you, Melodia Nonoire, to sit on my lap.”

So he reached that point already. But, I still refused to follow his order. 

“It’s past my working hour already so I’m not obliged to obey your order.”

“Ah, you’re right!”

Dietrich-sama was holding his head in frustration. 

“Muu… Just what should I do to make Melodia sit on my lap?!”

“Umm… Even if it’s during my working hours, I still won’t sit on your lap.”

“Why?!”

“Because it’s embarrassing.”

This time, Dietrich-sama looked dejected. I didn’t know how many times I had said this but Dietrich-sama’s dejected look was my weakness. 

“Melodia… I beg you, please sit on my lap. I have something private to talk about with you.”

When he acted more pitiful like this, I became unable to resist him even more. Sitting on his lap for a while should be fine. I stood up from my seat and said to Dietrich-sama.

“I’m heavy though?”

“It’s fine.”

It was so funny how Dietrich-sama didn’t even deny I was heavy. Timidly, I sat on his lap but Dietrich-sama’s lap felt stable enough.

“Melodia’s derriere feels so soft.”

“I don’t need to hear that thought.”

“Sorry… My true feelings just slipped out of my mouth.”

“Please, remember to keep your thoughts in your head.”

Dietrich-sama was truly an upfront man. I didn’t know anyone else who was as upfront as him. 

“It’s been a while since we last had the chance to talk like this.”

“Because Dietrich-sama, you did avoid me for a certain period of time, didn’t you?”

“Th-That’s… It’s because I had pointed my sword at Melodia.”

“But when I told you to wait, you did wait.”

“I’ve already decided that no matter what the condition is, when Melodia tells me to wait, I will wait.”

Dietrich-sama had the mental fortitude to overcome the curse. 

“But it still doesn’t erase the fact that I’ve pointed my sword at you. I’m really sorry for what I’ve done at that time. I feel like I don’t have the right to spend my time together with Melodia anymore.”

“Dietrich-sama….”

“But then, I realized once again that Melodia is a fundamental part of my life.”

Dietrich-sama hugged me and whispered close to my ear.

“I love you.”

Hearing the passionate confession of love, it felt like my heart was being tightly clutched. 

“I can no longer return to my Fulmoff form but will you marry me?”

I laughed at the words he used to propose to me. 

“Dietrich-sama, why are you bringing Fulmoff into our conversation?”

“I thought Melodia liked my Fulmoff form better.”

“It’s alright. Even if Dietrich-sama is not Fulmoff, I will still adore you.”

“Huh?”

Dietrich-sama stared at me with a blank and confused expression on his face. 

“What do you mean ‘huh’?”

“No, I mean, I just didn’t expect Melodia would like me back.”

“You know, I won’t sit on the lap of someone I don’t like.”

“I thought you couldn’t help but to sit on my lap because otherwise I will keep throwing a tantrum.”

“Absolutely not.”

“I-I see. I’m glad. I’m really glad.”

Dietrich-sama leaned his face against my chest, letting out deep, deep breaths. I had no idea that he didn’t realize my fondness towards him. Though I was more surprised that Dietrich-sama was actually Fulmoff. 

“Dietrich-sama too, are you fine with me? At night, I will turn into a wolf and I’m just an ordinary commoner.”

“Melodia you’re fine as you are. If it’s not Melodia, it just won’t do.”

“Dietrich-sama….”

I hugged Dietrich-sama and whispered softly. 

“I’m still lacking but please take care of me well.”

“Melodia!”

I gently kissed Dietrich-sama on his forehead. He looked so happy, it looked like he was about to cry even. Then in return, Dietrich-sama placed his lips on my cheek. 

“Melodia, your skin is so smooth. I want to eat you up.”

“Like I already told you before, please keep that kind of thought to yourself!”

I just couldn’t already. I ended up laughing. When I talked with Dietrich-sama, my heart would be filled with warmth. 

I am truly fortunate.

After that, we got married a year and a half later. Since I was a commoner who was about to get married into a noble family, it took me a long time to learn the manner and courtesy in a noble society. Dietrich-sama looked impatient but I was happy to slowly savor the joy of having a family. 

For so many years, the Fenrir family had suffered under the Wolf Witch’s curse but now everyone was living happily. The curtain closed, ending this story with a happily ever after.
