Fortifying my home with DIY – One month left until the zombie Crisis
Fortifying my home with DIY – One month left until the zombie Crisis Chapter 5.2

After driving for a while, I arrived at my destination: a perfectly square house surrounded by a tall, gray, square fence by the lakeside. It was an oddity that stood out in the beautiful scenery.

“The fence is so tall! The house is probably made of reinforced concrete and looks like a fortress,” I thought to myself.

The white, tall walls surrounded the property completely, and though they were painted white, I couldn’t tell what they were made of. Maybe wood?

The property was quite spacious, with the house at the center of the garden, making it an ideal fortress.

“The building alone is over 200 square meters in size. The garden is even bigger. I almost calculated the selling price, but it’s pointless,” I mused.

I stood in front of the gate, feeling underdressed for the occasion.

“Maybe I should have dressed up a bit more,” I regretted.

But it was too late to turn back now. I cleared my throat and checked my appearance before pressing the doorbell.

“Hello, welcome,” a familiar voice greeted me.

It was a voice I had heard countless times through my headphones.

“Hello there! It’s DIY’s ace, Diya!” I greeted, deciding to raise my energy level instead of giving a formal greeting.

Since the doorbell had a camera, I smiled and posed perfectly, having learned from my idol days which angle would make me look the best.

“Welcome, you made it. I opened the gate, so come on in,” the person said as a clicking sound was heard.

The key could be operated remotely. It was a natural facility for a house of this size.

As I passed through the gate, I walked slowly, observing the garden.

“It looks so plain, like a house for sale,” I commented.

The garden had no decorative elements and was so plain that only a well stood in the corner, making the already spacious garden feel even larger.

“I don’t like things too cluttered,” a voice said from the side, causing me to turn around to see a young man in his mid-twenties standing there.

He was dressed in a white sweater and navy jeans, of average build and height with a face that was just slightly above average. It was a forgettable face, the kind that one might pass by on the street without a second glance.

But it wasn’t an unattractive face; it just lacked distinctive features. If it were a woman, she would likely be able to enhance it with makeup.

“Oh, so that’s what Jin-sama looks like. He’s quite handsome,” the person said.

“Thank you for the compliment, but please don’t flatter me too much. As for Diya, she’s someone who has a certain beauty that’s hard to put into words, and you really have to see her in person to appreciate it,” Jin replied.

“If you’re going to compliment someone, do it properly!” I said joked.

Jin chuckled. “Sorry, I guess I got carried away with the internet humor. I’ll try to be more sincere in person.”

With momentum, I lightly patted his chest.

Huh? Even when meeting in person, their casual banter flows just as smoothly as online.

She’s able to speak without any signs of nervousness.

“Oh, are you wearing colored contacts? Your eyes look a bit blue. So fashionable!”

“No, I’m not. Apparently, there’s foreign blood mixed into my paternal ancestors, so that’s probably why.”

Ah, that’s right. Now that he mentions it, there is a slight hint of foreign features… but not too much.

“Oh, what about your sister? You two live together, right? I’d like to say hello.”

In response to this casual remark, Jin’s expression visibly darkened.

“Sorry. Yae-nee isn’t very good with people, so she probably won’t come out of her room. But it’s not like she hates you or anything.”

“I see. That’s totally fine. Oh, I brought some souvenirs, so let’s have a snack with your sister later.”

“Oh, nice! Sorry about that. So, about the request, can you do it?”

“I thought we’d chat a bit more before getting down to business, but you’re surprisingly impatient. Is everything okay?”

Maybe it’s just her imagination, but he seems a little anxious?

“It’s more impressive than I thought. Of course, I’m happy to do it, but… Are you really okay with turning this house into a fortress? How far can we go?”

“I basically want you to focus on the exterior and the walls around the house more than the interior. For example, I want sturdy bars or shutters on the windows and, if possible, solar panels on the roof to generate electricity.” He answered

It’s even more serious than she imagined. She’s getting excited.

“I like that kind of stuff. Oh, by the way, let’s come up with a concept that looks good in videos since we’re going to do this anyway.”

“Concept?”

Jin tilts his head, perhaps not understanding the meaning of my proposal.

“That’s right. To attract viewers, you need a title and thumbnail that are easy to understand and have impact. Like the one I did, ‘Let’s Make a Secret Base’. Just for security purposes, it’s a bit weak.”

If we’re going to do it, I want to be particular about it.

The content is sure to be interesting, so it’s important to see how many first-time viewers we can attract.

“If you have any ideas, let me know.”

In response to my unreasonable request, Jin’s eyes widened. Then he took a deep breath, crossed his arms, and smiled smugly.

What was with that reaction just now? I don’t remember making such a surprising proposal.

“How about this then? ‘Creating a real fortress that can withstand a zombie attack.'”

“Huh…that sounds good!”

I nodded and agreed, clapping my hands together at the idea he proposed with a grin on his face.

“That’s a title I would want to watch as a viewer. You surprised me with your creativity,” I said.

“There’s one condition or rather, a request that I have,” he added.

“What is it? Just tell me, master,” I replied.

He moved closer with a lecherous smile on his face and rubbed his hands together, causing me to flinch and step back. “I’m sorry, that was rude of me.”

” I want all the work to be finished by the end of this month,” he said unexpectedly.

This was unexpected; I had planned to take his time and work on it over several months. I wonder if there is a reason why he’s in a hurry.

“Well, it depends on the specifics of the work. Either way, if that’s the case, we might need a few more hands. For the solar panels, we may need to hire a professional or someone with an electrician’s license,” I replied.

I knew some people from her time as a YouTuber who could help with that.

“I don’t want anyone else to know about this… But maybe we can ask for help with the electrical work?”

He is muttering something with his back turned.

Since he can’t make a decision right away, while his pondering, I’ll take a stroll around the garden and observe the exterior of the house.

It’s a rectangular two-story building with a rooftop balcony.

There’s a big window beside the first-floor entrance. The window facing the south garden is also large. It might be better to install security shutters rather than grilles.

If his particular about it, he might want to replace the wooden door with a sturdy metal one. And the gate should be more imposing.

If it’s for zombie defense, there’s probably no need to mess with the fence. With such an intimidating look, it would serve as a visually appealing defense wall.

“Wow, thinking about zombie defense is so much fun.”

Because I like games like that, just imagining being able to do it in real life gets me excited.

“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I should thank Jin for this.”

I have some doubts, but my curiosity and anticipation for the future overshadow them.

We’ll be busy starting tomorrow!
