I Am the Nanny of the Villain
I Am the Nanny of the Villain Side Story 15

* * *

One year later.

The long-awaited return of the Ambrosia family drew the attention of the entire Crombell Empire, and all eyes were on the Imperial Palace. Ethan Ambrosia had returned from an extended vacation and was planning to visit the Emperor with his family to offer their greetings.

For the past year, no one had seen the Ambrosia family, not even once, anywhere across the Empire or the continent. The Ducal family of Ambrosia had not appeared at the 2nd prince’s birth celebration either, which only piqued people’s curiosity even more.

What kind of extraordinary vacation could they have been on to disappear completely like that? The people of Crombell Empire gathered in groups, eagerly waiting at the gates of the Imperial Palace for the arrival of the Ambrosia family.

“Ah, ah! They’re coming!”

“It’s the Duke of Ambrosia’s carriage!”

At that moment, the long-awaited carriage of the Ambrosia family appeared in the distance. All eyes turned toward it.

“Ahem.”

The knight guarding the Imperial Palace gates, Jerome, cleared his throat loudly and straightened his posture. He was preparing to receive Ethan Ambrosia’s palace pass. As the Ambrosia carriage drew nearer, the intensity of the people’s gaze grew even stronger.

“Stop.”

Jerome lowered his voice as much as possible, trying to appear dignified. At his command, the door of the Ambrosia carriage opened with a soft click.

“……”

“……”

“……”

An eerie silence fell over the crowd as they all imagined Ethan Ambrosia stepping out of the carriage. But the person who appeared was not Ethan Ambrosia, nor Sarah Millen, nor even Claude Ambrosia. It was someone else entirely.

“Ah, you’re all working hard today too!”

Jade Harper. Ethan Ambrosia’s aide.

“What? What’s going on?”

“Where’s the Duke of Ambrosia?”

“Why is he the one coming out?”

Disappointment and murmurs of confusion rippled through the crowd. Despite hearing all of this, Jade pretended not to notice and flashed a friendly smile as he took something out from his coat.

“It seems we need to reschedule today’s meeting. My Lord sent me in his stead.”

“Wha, what?”

“My Lady is feeling unwell. She needs some rest, so My Lord has decided to postpone the meeting. I trust you will convey this message to His Majesty.”

Jade handed Jerome a letter that he had taken out from his coat, placing it carefully into his hands.

“I’m sure you’ll deliver this well. Farewell for now.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jade turned around as if his task was finished. The gates of the Imperial Palace swung open, and a commotion arose from within.

“Rest? After a whole year of rest, now you need more rest?! I…… I’ve been buried in work, never even able to visit when my Penelois was in labor, and now—now, this?!”

“Gah! His Majesty the Emperor!”

“The Sun of the Empire, His Majesty the Emperor!”

The Emperor, Eleon, burst out from the palace doors, foam nearly coming from his mouth, and rushed toward Jade.

“Bring him here immediately! I demand that Ethan Ambrosia be brought to me! It’s my turn now! I should be going on vacation!”

“Cough, Your—Your Majesty, please—please let go of me!”

“Ethan Ambrosiaaaaaa!!”

The Emperor’s desperate shout echoed so loudly that it reverberated throughout the palace grounds. Even through magical artifacts, Sarah could hear it clearly, filling her room to the brim. Ethan, realizing his decision had been correct, promptly turned off the artifact.

“See, Sarah? Not going was the right choice.”

“Indeed. I didn’t realize His Majesty would be so intent on this……”

Sarah smiled wryly, feeling a bit embarrassed, as she gently stroked Claude’s hair, which was peacefully asleep.

“How could the Emperor possibly think that after I’ve rested for a whole year, it’s time for him to rest? Tsk.”

Thinking of the Emperor, who had been preparing to take his own vacation upon Ethan’s return, gave Sarah a headache. If the Emperor hadn’t been sitting on the throne, she might have been forced to watch him go on his own vacation. Of course, even if the Emperor tried to escape, there was no way he could evade Ethan’s control.

“Ah, I love traveling, but home is still the best, right?”

“Of course. Let’s just stay here and rest for a while, Sarah.”

Ethan and Sarah exchanged a smile, both relieved to set aside the Emperor’s plight. Just then, May came in to retrieve Claude, glancing between the three of them and speaking with a soft smile.

“By the way, it’s clear you three had a great time while away.”

“Fufu. We had a fantastic time.”

Sarah smiled contentedly. There were so many fun things to remember from their trip, and Claude had smiled so beautifully. She could talk about how much closer Claude had become to being a little child, spending every single day together for an entire year.

“Yes. Just looking at your faces, I can tell.”

“Really?”

“Yes. You’re all so tan.”

Just as May had said, their faces were all pleasantly sun-kissed, a soft golden hue. It was obvious how much time they had spent outdoors. Sarah replied in a voice that still carried the lingering joy of their vacation.

“You know, a vacation isn’t complete without a little sunburn. So, I made sure to get a bit of a tan.”

“If His Majesty sees you, I’m sure he’ll be very jealous.”

“Before that, though, we need to return to normal. Just a little longer, and then we’ll be back to the way we were.”

Judging by the mischievous look in Sarah’s eyes, it was clear that ‘a little longer’ would likely be much longer than anyone could expect. May nodded, then gently took Claude into her arms.

“Young Master Claude has grown so much already.”

May blinked in surprise, unable to hide her amazement. Claude had grown so heavy that she could no longer carry him with just one arm. It was only during their time away that she had noticed how much Claude had changed.

“He’s already starting to have growing pains. Who knows how big he’s going to get……”

“He’s probably going to keep growing until he becomes an adult, just like me.”

“He’ll be handsome, our son.”

Sarah smiled proudly. Then, as if recalling something, she turned to May and asked.

“By the way, I invited Elexa. He should be arriving soon, right?”

“Yes. He should be here by now. I believe the head maid is escorting him.”

“I’ll go myself. I’d like to deliver some good news personally.”

“What news……?”

“It’s still a secret. But it’s really, really, really good news.”

Sarah’s face glowed with a soft, secretive smile as she looked at Ethan. Ethan, too, responded with a smile that could melt anyone’s heart, and he kissed Sarah gently on the forehead.

“This is the best news I could ever ask for.”

May couldn’t help but notice the way the two of them interacted, and though she was dying to know the news, she knew she’d hear it soon enough. May left the room, still carrying Claude, and soon after, Elexa arrived, escorted by the head maid.

“Claude!”

“Mm…… Elexa?”

At the sound of Elexa calling his name, Claude stirred and immediately recognized him as soon as his eyes opened. He smiled brightly, even though he had just woken up, and wiggled out of May’s arms.

“Careful. Let me put you down.”

May carefully lowered Claude, and the child immediately jumped into the arms of his long-lost friend.

“It’s been a while!!”

“Whoa, Claude, you’ve gotten taller?”

“Yep! Why haven’t you grown?”

“……I have grown!”

Claude, staring at Elexa, who was still a head shorter than him, tilted his head in confusion, but then just shrugged it off with a grin.

“Let’s go to my room and play! I have something to ask you!”

“Okay!”

The two children held hands and ran down the hall, giggling.

“Young Master Claude, Crown Prince! If you keep running like that……”

“It’s so fun!”

“That’s not how you should behave!”

“Please let us off just this once!”

“Goodness!”

At Claude’s adorable plea, May and the head maid followed them, but soon enough, they both collapsed in a heap, unable to stop themselves.

“Just what happened during this trip that made Young Master Claude act like this……?”

“He’s only become more lovable, hasn’t he?”

The two women, holding their hearts in their hands, couldn’t rise for a while.

“Elexa, Elexa, listen!”

“Yes!”

As soon as they entered the room, Claude grabbed Elexa’s hands and looked around cautiously, making sure no one was listening. His eyes were filled with suspicion as if something serious was afoot.

“Why? What’s going on?”

“Something’s going on!”

“What is it?”

Claude scanned the room once more, recalling Sarah and Ethan’s advice to keep things secret. He trusted Elexa, and he could tell him, but no one else could know. After making sure no one was around, he leaned close to Elexa’s ear and whispered.

“You know how Mom and Dad said that if they spend enough time alone, we’ll get a little sibling?”

“Yes!”

“But, Mom and Dad didn’t spend that much time alone, so is it possible for a sibling to be born?”

“Hmm?”

Elexa tilted his head in confusion, not understanding what Claude meant.

“What do you mean? How is that possible? Didn’t they say a sibling is only born when they’re alone together?”

“Exactly. Mom said it was a gift from the trip. But, even though she spent every single day with me during the trip, a sibling was born.”

“……Really? Really? You’re going to have a sibling, Claude?”

“Yep!”

Claude nodded, his cheeks turning a pretty shade of red.

“They said it’s going to be a pretty little sister.”

“Waahhhh!”

Elexa couldn’t help but cheer loudly, then quickly covered his mouth with both hands, startled by his outburst. Claude, wide-eyed, hastily pressed his ear to the door, checking if anyone had overheard them. After confirming no one was around, he exchanged a knowing glance with Elexa and grinned mischievously.

“My little sister is definitely going to be super cute. So Elexa, promise me something.”

“What?”

“Promise me you’ll protect my little sister. Anyone who messes with her…… I’ll make sure they don’t live to regret it.”

At Claude’s serious request, Elexa was momentarily speechless. He began to worry about the future of the little noblewoman who was about to be born into the Ambrosia family.
