After walking for several days in a row, the group finally reached the end of this forest.
Everyone seemed to have found hope and quickened their pace to move forward.
After a quarter of an hour, they finally arrived at a small path.
Breathing in the scent of the outside world, everyone felt deeply moved. They had been walking in the forest for so many days, as if there was no end in sight.
They found a place to rest at the end of the forest, intending to take a break.
The group gathered together and took out the topographic map from Shen Rong’s possession to examine it.
Shen Rong said, “Now that we have exited the forest, we are on a small path. If we continue forward for a short distance, we will reach the main road. After walking for several tens of miles, we will reach the next county.”
Smiles appeared on everyone’s faces.
Shen Rong looked at Bai Wu and asked, “Dr. Bai, is your hometown in the capital city?”
Bai Wu’s eyes also held a hint of a smile because once they passed this county, they would only have to travel another hundred miles to reach the capital city.
Finally, they would be able to return home.
He replied, “Yes, after passing this county, it will be a little over a hundred miles away.”
Shen Rong then said, “Let’s first go to this county and see the situation before continuing our journey.”
Everyone agreed one after another. Finally, they could settle down, who wouldn’t be happy about that?
However, before they left, they needed to make some preparations.
They took off most of the silver jewelry that Hua Nan and Hua Ling were wearing, except for the one around their necks that could be concealed under their clothes.
It wouldn’t be appropriate to flaunt their wealth when they were fleeing. Just arriving in a new place, it was best to keep their assets hidden.
Shen Yu’an looked at Fei Yanchen’s face and decided to disguise him again, although this time it was not as exaggerated as before.
Even though they had seen it once before, everyone still marveled at Shen Yu’an’s incredible skill in disguise.
At first glance, who would have thought that this person’s face was fake?
When Shen Yu’an disguised Fei Yanchen this time, she used her father’s face as a reference.
So, when everyone looked at Fei Yanchen, they felt that he resembled Shen Rong to some extent.
Satisfied with the powder on her hands, Shen Yu’an smiled and said, “From now on, you are the eldest grandson of the Shen family. Big brother and the others will move back one position.”
“Do you all remember?”
Wulang was a bit puzzled and asked, “Why do we have to say it like this?”
“Because…” Shen Yu’an lightly tapped Wulang’s head and said, “There’s no need for so many ‘whys.'”
Wulang rubbed his head and said, “But what if Liulang forgets? I’m already a big kid, and I definitely won’t forget.”
Liulang heard this and said defiantly, “Brother Wulang, I won’t forget either.”
Shen Yu’an furrowed her brows, realizing that it could indeed be a problem.
She looked at Fei Yanchen and said, “Well, let Ah Chen stand with Dad, Second Uncle, and Third Uncle for now.”
“If anyone asks, say that Ah Chen is the fourth son of the Shen family.”
Satisfied, Shen Yu’an nodded. “It’s decided then.”
Everyone thought it was just Shen Yu’an’s mischievous nature and laughed without saying much.
Shen Yu’an patted Fei Yanchen’s shoulder and said, “From now on, you’re my fourth uncle.”
Fei Yanchen was a bit stunned. How did he suddenly become An’An’s fourth uncle?
He indulgently watched Shen Yu’an’s playful antics and didn’t say anything to stop her.
Only Ji Xun held his stomach and laughed heartily. Don’t think that no one noticed Fei Yanchen’s thoughts.
He spent the whole day watching Shen Yu’an as if she wanted to whisk him away. And now he became her uncle.
Once they had settled the matter, everyone sat in their original spot, preparing to boil water and cook a meal.
By the time they set off again, an hour had passed.
They walked a few hundred meters down the road and reached the main road, where many pedestrians were rushing on their way.
After nearly six months of journeying, the Shen family had already consumed a significant amount of the provisions they had brought, so they didn’t stand out too much.
However, compared to other refugees on the road, their situation was relatively better.
The people hurrying along the road took a quick glance at them but then averted their gaze and continued on their way.
The Shen family observed for a while and then followed behind, hurrying along the road.
When they stopped to rest at noon on the second day, a man approached them to strike up a conversation.
The man asked, “Brothers, are you also from Dashan County?”
As the saying goes, you don’t hit a smiling person. Since the man initiated the conversation, Shen Rong replied, “Yes, we are from Dashan County. Are you also from there, brother?”
The man familiarly sat down next to Shen Rong. He let out a sigh and said, “Indeed, if it weren’t for being barred from entering Dashan County, we wouldn’t have ended up fleeing to this place.”
Shen Rong nodded in agreement.
The man continued, “But luckily, we ran fast. Otherwise, when things got chaotic outside Dashan County, our lives might have been in danger.”
The other people sitting nearby, listening attentively, were shocked. Grandma Shen was particularly surprised and exclaimed, “What? Did something terrible happen to the refugees outside Dashan County?”
