Just outside the gate, a skinny man with triangular eyes and a small stature, who had been disdainfully made to wait outside by the Shen family, was now squeezing into the middle of the queue. Upon hearing these words, his eyes nearly rolled up to the sky in contempt.
This skinny man with triangular eyes was called Pan Hou, but the villagers had given him the nickname “Lazy Monkey.”
He didn’t pay any attention to what Shen Yu’an was saying.
Hmph, as long as he signed up, he would earn twenty coins a day. Even if he slacked off, who would know?
Shen Yu’an heard a grunt and looked in the direction of the sound, just in time to see Pan Hou with his eyes almost rolling up to the sky.
Pan Hou looked back at her and lecherously scanned Shen Yu’an from head to toe.
Shen Yu’an sneered and locked eyes with Pan Hou directly.
Pan Hou suddenly spoke, “Are all the men in your family incapable? They have to send out a little lady who looks like a vixen to speak.”
Then he sarcastically added, “Looking like this, it’s obvious she’s not a decent person.”
As soon as he said that, the faces of the Shen family members instantly turned cold, and Shen Rong even stopped the process of registration.
Even the people in the queue or those waiting outside without queuing were awkwardly stunned.
How could he speak about someone’s daughter like this? Wasn’t this baselessly accusing her of wrongdoing?
The words spoken by Pan Hou not only displeased everyone but also seemed to be stirring up a potential conflict!
Shen Dalang and Shen Erlang walked directly to Pan Hou’s side and pulled him out of the queue.
Pan Hou staggered from being pulled, desperately digging his feet into the ground and shouting, “Hey hey, it’s almost my turn, what are you trying to do?”
Shen Dalang paid no attention to whether he wanted to come out or not, forcefully pulling him aside and kicking him to the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Erlang kicked him hard and even twisted his arm forcefully.
In a furious tone, Shen Dalang spoke, “Get lost, we don’t need someone like you.”
Shen Erlang also glared at Pan Hou and repeated, “That’s right, we don’t need you for building the house.”
A woman rushed in from outside and quickly helped Pan Hou up from the ground.
Pan Hou’s mind flashed, and he remembered the words he had just said.
Although he felt a bit annoyed that he blurted out his inner thoughts, he didn’t think he was wrong in what he said.
He protested, “I also came to sign up. Why shouldn’t they accept me?”
The woman, observing the situation in the courtyard, also spoke with a sense of injustice, “That’s right, everyone is the same. Why shouldn’t they accept my son either?”
She had a disagreement with Shen Yu’an yesterday and only reluctantly held her tongue when Shen Yu’an mentioned hiring workers to build the house, thinking of letting her son sign up as well.
She thought to herself, it would be great to earn twenty coins a day for doing nothing.
Once her son signed up, he could laze around day after day, and these newcomers wouldn’t dare to say anything.
But who would have thought that they would encounter a problem right at the registration stage?
She knew very well what kind of person her own son was.
Pan Hou was lecherous. When he was in his teens, he got beaten up for peeping at women using the restroom by leaning over the wall. But even after a few years, he hadn’t made any progress.
So he didn’t have a good reputation in the village, and no one was willing to take him along for any money-making opportunities in town.
If she had known that this new family had attractive girls, she wouldn’t have let Pan Hou come along for fear that his loose mouth would cause trouble. Before they came, she had repeatedly reminded Pan Hou to keep quiet.
The new family didn’t know about his bad reputation, so they wouldn’t have refused to accept him.
But in the end, he couldn’t shut his mouth.
Shen Yu’an recognized this woman as the one who had made those sarcastic remarks about them yesterday.
She coldly snorted, “We’re the ones paying the money. You can sign up, but of course, we can also choose not to accept you.”
The woman stubbornly said, “I… I don’t accept it.”
Shen Yu’an gave her a cold glance and said, “If you don’t accept it, keep it to yourself. Big Brother, Second Brother, escort them out.”
Shen Dalang and Shen Erlang were waiting for this moment. They pushed Pan Hou and started walking towards the exit.
The woman tried to pull Pan Hou back, but her strength was no match for two young men. They forcefully dragged her outside.
As she walked away, she turned around and said, “Everyone, take a good look. This family dares to bully the villagers as soon as they arrive. If we let them build their house and settle down, it will be unbearable. Don’t help them build, let them leave our village.”
Even the discerning individuals could see who was in the wrong here. Pan Hou couldn’t handle the work, yet he still tried to deceive them into letting him stay.
The people in the queue turned their heads to the side, pretending not to hear.
Zhu Dazhuang, who was in the queue, couldn’t help but speak some fair words. “Aunt Pan, we all heard what Pan Hou said. It’s not right to speak about the young lady like that. You both have done something wrong. Apologize to Miss Shen, and let’s put this matter behind us.”
Zhu Dazhuang had good intentions, hoping they would apologize. However, Aunt Pan and Pan Hou were not appreciative people.
Pan Hou cursed at Zhu Dazhuang, “Damn you, Zhu Dazhuang, you shameless person. Did you take bribes from their family or what?”
Aunt Pan also couldn’t resist shouting a few words.
Zhu Dazhuang felt suffocated in his chest from anger and simply turned his head, ignoring them.
Shen Dalang and Shen Erlang pushed the person out of the gate, and in the midst of the pushing and shouting, they didn’t hesitate to secretly use some underhanded tactics.
They twisted Pan Hou’s body several times, but he was too agitated to realize that he was being twisted.
As soon as they stepped outside, they were met with several strikes from Zhu Dazhuang’s mother and grandmother, who were waiting outside.
Aunt Pan was hit and ran away, clutching her head in panic, while Pan Hou showed no intention of going to help.
After muttering a few more curses, the two of them fled as if escaping.
However, Pan Hou hadn’t run more than a few steps when he tripped on something and his face slammed into the ground, resulting in bruised and swollen nose.
Aunt Pan helped Pan Hou up, feeling sorry for him, and then ran away.
In the courtyard at this moment,
Some people in the queue spoke up, saying, “Don’t take Pan Hou’s words to heart. He’s always been a troublemaker.”
Others quickly chimed in, afraid that the Shen family would think they were of the same character as Pan Hou.
Someone asked, “So, is this job offer still valid?”
Shen Yu’an spoke up loudly, “Yes, it’s valid. The wages will be paid daily. Please continue with the registration.”
Shen Rong returned to his original position and began registering the names of each person.
In the end, a total of fifty-three people were registered, and the members of the Shen family temporarily stayed behind.
