The members of the Shen family and a few people from the Zhang family all ran excitedly towards the direction of the room.
Zhao Shi and Ding Hehua, being women, also took the opportunity to support Grandma Shen and walked in together.
As soon as Grandma Shen entered, she urged, “Quickly close the door, don’t let the cold wind in.”
Ding Hehua turned around and slammed the door shut.
The others who came in after them only managed to catch a whiff of a strong smell of blood and some unpleasant odors before being locked outside.
Inside the room, two midwives were gently wiping the dirt off the bodies of the newborn twins with clean water.
The first person to rush into the room was Shen Yun. At first, the midwives were startled to see a man bursting in, but when they recognized him, they didn’t mind and assumed he wanted to come in and see his own children.
One of the midwives, holding one of the babies, smiled and walked up to Shen Yun, congratulating him happily, “Congratulations! It’s a chubby little boy. Take a look.”
Unexpectedly, after just a glance, Shen Yun didn’t even hold the baby and bypassed the midwife, heading towards the side of the bed.
The midwife paused in her action of handing over the child, her hands stiffened, but she held onto the baby again.
As Shen Yun reached the bedside and saw that Xiao Zhang was still safe, he finally caught his breath.
Seeing him enter, Xiao Zhang, with a weak look, scolded gently, “The room is so messy, why did you come in?”
Shen Yun squatted beside the bed and casually explained the situation, then he began to show concern and inquire about Xiao Zhang’s well-being.
The two midwives looked at the scene, exchanged glances, and then looked at the babies in their arms, remaining silent.
However, shortly after, Grandma Shen and the others also entered the room.
Seeing Shen Yun talking to Xiao Zhang closely, they decided not to approach and instead turned their attention to the two children.
Seeing their eager expressions, the midwife finally mustered their strength and happily brought the two babies in front of the three women, continuously uttering auspicious words.
Who doesn’t like hearing auspicious words?
Grandma Shen’s face lit up with joy, and she asked Zhao Shi to place the prepared red envelopes into the midwives’ arms.
Meanwhile, sitting by the bedside, Shen Yu’an was feeling a bit weak.
Throughout the whole process, she had been using her mental power to help Xiao Zhang relieve pain and fatigue. Overexerting herself, she now felt exceptionally tired.
Although the matter of Xiao Zhang giving birth was resolved, there were still many other things to handle outside.
Shen Yu’an decided to rest later and deal with those matters first.
She stood up to make room for her third uncle and third aunt and then, together with her mother, gathered around Grandma Shen to look at the two little babies.
Shen Yu’an leaned in for a closer look.
The two babies were wrapped in a red and a blue swaddling cloth, and their skin appeared a little wrinkled.
She extended her finger and gently touched the face of the baby in the red swaddling cloth. The skin was soft like a marshmallow, as if it would squish with just a light pinch.
Shen Yu’an dared not apply any force, only lightly caressed the baby’s cheek.
The little baby seemed to sense something, as one tiny hand waved in the air and then accurately grasped Shen Yu’an’s finger, holding it firmly.
From the baby’s mouth came cooing and babbling sounds.
Meanwhile, outside the room:
Upon hearing the cries of the babies from inside the room and seeing that Grandma Shen and the others had been inside for quite a while, the people outside knew that Xiao Zhang and her babies were safe.
The people gathered outside the courtyard gate entered with smiles on their faces, offering their congratulations.
Even the Zhu family, who had a ‘gambling agreement’ with the Shen family came over to congratulate them.
When Zhu saw her husband and mother-in-law going to offer their good wishes, she reluctantly tried to stop them, but after a stern look from her mother-in-law, she withdrew her hand.
The Shen family chose to ignore the ongoing dispute between them.
Sometimes, it’s better not to antagonize people with smiles on their faces. While there was a small argument, the Shen family naturally didn’t want to deny them some face.
The men and mother-in-law from the Zhu family spoke auspiciously and openly, and the Shen family responded with cheerful smiles.
After a while, Zhao Shi and the midwives together cleaned up the mess on the bed.
The babies stayed inside the room with Xiao Zhang lying beside them.
The newborns were lacking in energy and had fallen asleep by now.
Grandma Shen and the others then came out of the room.
Giving birth to a child doesn’t mean everything is settled; they still haven’t settled the score with the Pan family!
After responding to the well-wishers in the courtyard, Grandma Shen looked at Zhu Li Zheng and began speaking, “Zhu Li Zheng, as the household manager, you must give our family a fair judgment. Everyone heard what Pan said, admitting her actions. This is no small matter.”
“She knew that my daughter-in-law was heavily pregnant, yet she intentionally pushed her down. She wanted to harm her.”
“If my daughter-in-law didn’t have good luck and a strong constitution, she might have been lying there unable to get up!”
Grandma Shen scolded Pan for her actions with a stern voice, condemning what she had done.
The Pan family members who were tied up at the entrance of the courtyard glared unrepentantly in the direction of Grandma Shen.
Grandma Shen didn’t show any weakness and gave them a disdainful look.
Pan struggled on the ground for a while and finally pulled the dirty rag out of her mouth.
She spat on the ground and stubbornly said, “Who saw me push anyone? Isn’t your daughter-in-law completely fine?”
Everyone was stunned by Aunt Pan’s shamelessness.
She had just clearly admitted to the act, and now she was trying to deny it and shift the blame.
The villagers watched the two sides argue and clearly saw that the Shen family had the upper hand in this exchange.
Some people quickly stepped forward to mediate. After all, they were all from the same village, and if the blame didn’t fall on them, everyone wanted to downplay the issue.
A cheerful-looking woman stepped forward and advised, “Aunt from the Shen family, look, Zhang sister-in-law is fine. How about we let Aunt Pan apologize, and we can let this matter pass?”
“Yes, we’re all from the same village. Let’s not make it too awkward.”
“……”
The crowd chimed in with various suggestions, all trying to persuade Pan and her family to apologize and resolve the matter peacefully.
Zhu Li Zheng stood to the side, looking troubled. Indeed, this situation was not easy to handle.
Indeed, Aunt Pan had indeed admitted to pushing Xiao Zhang, but now she was vehemently denying what she had just said.
Moreover, Xiao Zhang, despite having a difficult childbirth, was currently not in any danger.
The best way to resolve this matter would be for Pan and her family to apologize and offer some compensation. If the Shen family were to accept it, the matter could be considered settled.
However, it was uncertain whether the Shen family members would be willing to accept such a resolution, considering their firm and resolute nature.
Zhu Li Zheng glanced back and saw the Pan family of four tied up shoulder to shoulder on the ground, and a cold sneer crossed his face.
His relaxed cheeks trembled, and he decided not to worry about the Shen family anymore.
Compared to the stubbornness of the Shen family, those fools from the Pan family didn’t know what they were getting themselves into!
As the village head, Zhu Li Zheng had to step forward and mediate the situation.
He looked towards Grandpa Shen and Grandma Shen, seeking their opinions, “As the villagers suggested just now, what do you think?”
