After all, Yu Fei was the tall, handsome, and undeniably fresh-faced young man, who had carried Yuan Xi back earlier.
“That’s enough. You can leave now.” Fu Yunzou said, waving Director Li away.
He was feeling irritable, barely registering a word of Director Li’s long-winded apology. His mind was preoccupied with the image of Yuan Xi staring intently at the fresh-faced Yu Fei.
Once Director Li finally left, Yuan Xi let out a sigh of relief.
He immediately lowered his gaze to his injured leg before beckoning Fu Yunzou over with a pitiful expression. “Yunzou, Yunzou, come help me! My leg hurts—help me adjust my position!”
Whatever annoyance Fu Yunzou had been harboring seemed to deflate entirely, like a balloon pricked by a needle.
Shaking his head with a helpless smile, he stood and walked over to Yuan Xi’s side.
When Yu Fei had set him down earlier, Yuan Xi hadn’t managed to position himself properly. And with others present, he’d refrained from moving around too much, maintaining an uncomfortable posture the entire time.
Now that they were alone, Yuan Xi wasted no time calling Fu Yunzou for help.
As Fu Yunzou approached, he finally got a good look at Yuan Xi’s awkward position.
Yuan Xi was perched on the edge of the chair, his body twisted uncomfortably, half-leaning onto the desk to prevent himself from sliding off entirely.
Fu Yunzou chuckled softly before wrapping his arms around Yuan Xi and gently adjusting him, lifting him slightly to settle him into a proper sitting position.
With no one else around, Yuan Xi visibly relaxed and began venting his frustrations.
“Yunzou, can you believe it? I was completely confused! Do I really look that young? Like a trainee? Ugh, you have no idea—I wanted to explain, but they wouldn’t even give me a chance! Every time I tried to speak, they interrupted me.”
The more Yuan Xi talked, the more aggrieved he sounded. His leg still throbbed with pain, and his pitiful expression tugged at Fu Yunzou’s heartstrings.
Already endearing by nature, Yuan Xi’s crestfallen demeanor made Fu Yunzou’s heart soften completely.
He reached out, pulling Yuan Xi into his arms and gently patting his back, murmuring soothingly. “There, there. It’s okay now. Everything’s fine.”
Being suddenly embraced, Yuan Xi felt the warmth radiating from Fu Yunzou, his face heating up uncontrollably. The tenderness in Fu Yunzou’s voice left him flustered and at a loss for words.
Sensing the unexpected quiet in his arms, Fu Yunzou glanced down at Yuan Xi with concern. “What’s wrong? Does it still hurt? Let’s go to the hospital and get it checked out.”
Without waiting for a reply, Fu Yunzou scooped Yuan Xi up into a bridal carry and strode toward the door.
The two of them took the executive elevator straight to the parking garage. Fu Yunzou quickly got them into the car and drove toward the hospital.
Worried there might be complications, Fu Yunzou ensured Yuan Xi underwent every necessary test, holding him close the entire time.
After confirming multiple times that it was only a simple muscle strain and nothing more serious, Fu Yunzou finally let out a sigh of relief.
Even so, a muscle strain was no minor inconvenience—it could cause discomfort for quite some time.
Seeing Yuan Xi sitting stiffly, afraid to move, Fu Yunzou remained silent for a moment before deciding to take him home directly.
Yuan Xi, thoroughly confused, blinked in surprise as he found himself suddenly picked up again. Realizing the car was taking a different route than before, he hesitantly shrank his neck and asked in a soft voice. “Where are we going?”
Fu Yunzou glanced down at him but didn’t respond.
Thanks to the medicated ointment, the pain in Yuan Xi’s leg had subsided somewhat, but he still didn’t dare to move recklessly.
A muscle strain—especially one caused by a split stretch like Yuan Xi’s—was an indescribable kind of pain.
When they got out of the car, Yuan Xi realized that Fu Yunzou had brought him to the Fu family’s main residence.
Carrying Yuan Xi in his arms, Fu Yunzou stepped through the front door. Aunt Zhang, the housekeeper, happened to be waiting in the entryway.
As soon as she saw them, she quickly stepped aside to make room, her face full of concern as she followed them in. “Oh dear, what happened? Weren’t you at the office? How on earth did you end up with a muscle strain?”
Feeling embarrassed, Yuan Xi buried his face into Fu Yunzou’s shoulder, too mortified to meet Aunt Zhang’s gaze.
He couldn’t possibly admit that he was mistaken for a trainee because of his youthful appearance and ended up with a muscle strain during training.
Thankfully, Aunt Zhang didn’t press for an explanation. After a glance at Yuan Xi, she turned to Fu Yunzou. “Yunzou, did you take Xiao Xi to see a doctor?”
Fu Yunzou handed over the medications and doctor’s instructions. “Yes, we’ve been. Here’s the prescription and the doctor’s advice.”
Aunt Zhang took the documents, skimming through them carefully. As she read, she remarked. “Yunzou, since Xiao Xi is already in this state, why not give him a few days off? Let him rest properly at home. In his condition, even if he goes to the office, he won’t be of much help to you.”
She continued scanning the dietary recommendations listed on the sheet as she spoke.
Fu Yunzou glanced at Yuan Xi, who was sprawled stiffly on the sofa, afraid to move, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Alright, let him rest at home for a few days. The company’s not busy right now, and I don’t need him for anything urgent.”
Aunt Zhang nodded in agreement.
Yuan Xi pouted, feeling a little wronged.
He had only gone to help cook a meal—how did it all end up like this? A muscle strain? It hurt so much!
