Su Yu watched Xiao Bao’s joyful expression and thought about what he had said to Big Flower. His feelings were complex, and with Huang Qi by his side, listening to Xiao Bao’s innocent and tender words, he didn’t know what to feel. In any case, he was happy for the young master.
The people from the Wang family were really easy to talk to. If it were someone else’s home, would the young master have been able to visit so easily today?
It would have been impossible. Moreover, with Jinhe there to speak up for the young master, it made it easier for Xiao Bao to accept him.
If the young master were to mistreat Jinhe and his family in the future, Huang Qi would scold him. He wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.
“Young Master, I’ll be heading back now.” After watching for a while and seeing that Su Yu was happily interacting with this family, Huang Qi felt that there was no need to stay any longer. He needed to send a letter to Yuanbao and the others to put their minds at ease.
“Go ahead,” Su Yu waved his hand to let Huang Qi leave.
After playing with Xiao Bao and Zhang Zhilin for a while, both of them started to feel tired. Xiao Bao rubbed his eyes, and even Zhang Zhilin’s energy levels were fading.
Su Yu carried both of them back to their room to sleep.
Xiao Bao held his little crocodile tightly and tried to open his eyes, looking at Su Yu. “Will you still be here when I wake up?”
Su Yu hesitated for a moment, then reached out to gently ruffle Xiao Bao’s hair. “Yes, I’ll be here, unless Daddy has something to attend to and needs to leave for a while. But otherwise, I’ll stay here with you.”
“Really?” Xiao Bao asked, still a bit skeptical.
Su Yu nodded with a smile. “Of course, I won’t lie to Xiao Bao.”
Xiao Bao extended his chubby little hand and looked at Su Yu seriously. “Then let’s pinky promise.”
“Alright.”
“Pinky promise, hanging promise, no changes for a hundred years. Whoever breaks it is a little dog.” After Xiao Bao stamped Su Yu’s thumb with his tiny thumb, he smiled contentedly.
Su Yu patted Xiao Bao’s hair. “It’s time to sleep now.”
“Mmm.”
Su Yu was taken aback when he heard Xiao Bao say in his sleep, “Daddy, actually, I don’t dislike you.”
He looked down at the peacefully sleeping Xiao Bao with a smile in his eyes. How could Xiao Bao be so adorable?
Wang Jinhe leaned against the doorway and heard what Xiao Bao had said. She felt even more certain that her decision was right.
Indeed, no matter how much Xiao Bao might have initially disliked Su Yu, deep down, he actually liked him very much.
Su Yu turned his head to look at Wang Jinhe and quietly walked out without disturbing Xiao Bao’s sleep.
“Let’s go. If you want to talk, we can go to the courtyard. Let’s not disturb these two little ones,” Su Yu said as he joined Wang Jinhe outside.
Standing on the corridor, Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and said, “You take care of Xiao Bao really well.”
” Xiao Bao lack too much on other areas, so I can only try to make up for it emotionally,” Wang Jinhe shrugged.
Hearing this, Su Yu remained silent, and the strange atmosphere made Wang Jinhe feel uncomfortable. “If you have something to say, just say it directly. Don’t beat around the bush like this. If you’re not feeling well, I’ll feel bad for you.”
“Was it hard before?”
Su Yu continued to inquire.
“It was okay, Xiao Bao has been well-behaved since he was a child. He would only cry when he was sick or hungry, so taking care of him was actually quite easy,” Wang Jinhe replied, avoiding the real question.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe helplessly. What he wanted to ask was not this, and she was smart enough to understand his real intention.
“You know what I want to ask,” he finally said.
“Although our family lives here, strictly speaking, we are not considered part of the Xie family village. So, back then, apart from people pointing fingers and saying some unpleasant things, there wasn’t much else. My family was very kind to me, it’s just that my brother got implicated. Otherwise, he would definitely be a successful scholar by now. My brother was very talented in his studies,” Wang Jinhe felt the most guilty about her brother, Wang Jingyu.
Listening to Wang Jinhe’s words, Su Yu couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. As long as they weren’t too severely mistreated back then, that was a good thing.
“That’s good. Huang Qi wrote to me, and when I learned about the child, what I was most afraid of was that you both had suffered too much back then,” Su Yu said after a long silence.
Wang Jinhe turned to look at Su Yu, and seeing his relieved expression, she smiled, “Actually, I don’t hate you.”
The original host didn’t really hold a grudge against Su Yu; in fact, she was grateful to him because Su Yu had given her such an adorable son.
Su Yu was taken aback for a moment. “Why?”
“Because I have such an adorable son like Xiao Bao,” Wang Jinhe leaned against a pillar, looking up at the sky, and spoke casually.
“Do you know? Since Little Bao was born, he has been the source of joy in our family. At that time, we were going through a low period, and suddenly having a child like him made our lives gradually get better. Although later on, due to health issues, things at home weren’t great, my parents never once complained about me,” Wang Jinhe felt most grateful to her family.
Su Yu furrowed his brows and looked at Wang Jinhe. “Health issues? Why?”
“I had a premature birth and a difficult delivery when giving birth to Little Bao, which led to ongoing health problems. It’s only in the past year that I’ve slowly started to recover, and now there are no major issues anymore.” With the vegetables grown from the Spirit Spring Water, she felt that the weakness she had felt when she first arrived had improved significantly.
“That’s good. If you ever feel unwell, just go see Huang Qi. His medical skills are decent, and if it’s really serious, I can have Wangu come over. Wangu is the youngest disciple of a renowned doctor, but he has fully inherited his master’s medical expertise,” Su Yu said with a serious expression.
Wang Jinhe cleared her throat and shook her head. “There’s no need for that now; I’m fine.”
“Alright, then,” Su Yu replied.
The two of them chatted under the eaves, Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and asked, “Do you have any plans for the future?”
“Me? Planting fruits and vegetables is good enough for me,” Wang Jinhe shrugged. “As for anything else, I haven’t really thought about it yet.”
“Come back with me sometime,” Su Yu said seriously as he looked at Wang Jinhe.
“Let’s talk about it later.” There would definitely be a time in the future when she would go with him, but for now, it wasn’t possible.
Su Yu hadn’t expected Wang Jinhe to agree to go with him right away, so him suggesting they discuss it later was already a positive response.
“Sure, whenever you want to go, just let me know, and I’ll take you and Little Bao with me.”
“Why does your family, with such a background, insist on monogamy?” Wang Jinhe asked curiously.
Usually, wealthy people like them would want multiple wives and concubines, right? So why was their family an exception?
“This is a rule set by my great-grandfather’s generation. It doesn’t apply to the collateral branches or illegitimate children; they can do as they please. However, it’s not allowed for the main line of the family,” Su Yu explained.
