Chapter 267: Prescription

Lady Wen watched Shen Yu’an, who seemed about to leave, with uncertainty in her eyes, pondering the truth of what Shen Yu’an had just said.

Although she had only known Shen Yu’an for a short time, she didn’t believe she was someone who casually spoke untruths, and she had some trust in her.

Lady Wen raised her hand and rubbed her temples.

Although she had often found Qi Yiran to be a bit scheming, she was still part of the General’s household. She was approaching marriageable age and considering potential suitors.

If her face were to be ruined at this moment, it would undoubtedly impact her prospects. What’s more, it might bring trouble to her two daughters.

After some contemplation, Lady Wen smiled and spoke, “Miss Shen, don’t stoop to her level. She acted irrationally due to her desperation.”

Feeling the forceful restraint from Xin Rui, Shen Yu’an came to a stop and looked at Lady Xie and Qi Yiran with a smile that wasn’t really a smile.

Lady Xie was furious under Shen Yu’an’s gaze. If it weren’t for Qi Yiran being held in her arms, she might have erupted by now.

Lady Xie questioned, “Why should I believe what you say? What does it have to do with me?”

Shen Yu’an remained calm and replied, “Whether you believe me or not is of no concern to me. After all, I’m not obligated to save her.”

Shen Yu’an’s certainty only added to her doubts.

Lady Xie ordered, “Then come and take a look at my daughter. If you can truly cure her, I won’t consider you arrogant.”

Shen Yu’an replied, “Although I’m just a commoner, if a lady wishes for my medical assistance, it’s necessary to clarify the fees first.”

Lady Xie said with disdain, “Would the General’s household forget your payment?”

As Shen Yu’an continued to walk forward, she explained, ” Lady Xie, you’re mistaken. I’m not asking for your reward; I’m asking for my consultation fee.”

Lady Xie thought to herself that Shen Yu’an was just trying to save face. Whether it was a consultation fee or a reward, she was simply trying to extract more money.

She shifted her body slightly to let Qi Yiran slip out of her embrace. As Shen Yu’an examined her, Qi Yiran wanted to resist, but her earlier vigorous struggle had drained most of her strength. Now, all she could do was glare weakly at Shen Yu’an.

Shen Yu’an cryptically remarked, “You should save your strength for later.”

No one understood Shen Yu’an’s intentions, and she didn’t explain further. She had someone fetch pen and paper and began writing down the treatment method.

“Yes!”

A servant received the paper from Shen Yu’an and unfolded it. His expression twisted as he read it.

Lady Xie scolded, “Hurry and go get the herbs. Why are you standing here?”

The servant stammered, “Madam, this…this prescription…”

Lady Wen, who was closest, took the prescription written by Shen Yu’an and after reading it, found it hard to believe that Shen Yu’an genuinely wanted to help Qi Yiran.

The prescription contained several toxic ingredients and some materials that would make one vomit. Could it really cure an illness?

Shen Yu’an kindly explained, “Madam, you may proceed to prepare the herbs. If it doesn’t work, I’m willing to accept any consequences.”

“But if it does work, I’d like Lady Xie to assess the value of your daughter’s face, and then pay me the consultation fee.”

Lady Xie had also looked at the prescription, and hearing Shen Yu’an’s words made her furious. She couldn’t imagine giving this insolent girl anything, especially since the prescription appeared to be a hoax.

She crumpled the paper in her hand and yelled at everyone.

Though Xin Rui hadn’t seen what Shen Yu’an had written, she could tell from Lady Wen’s changed expression that it wasn’t good.

Sensing the situation turning sour, Xin Rui hastily pulled Shen Yu’an into her own courtyard.
