When Song Shi and her two sisters-in-law, along with Shen Yu’an, returned home, they saw thick smoke rising from the chimneys in the Shen family’s courtyard.
In the courtyard, Tian Qiu’s son, Huang Yuan, was playing with two little ones who were still babbling.
Since the two little ones didn’t like being carried around all day, Shen Yu’an had compared the designs of baby walkers and strollers in her space, drawn sketches, and asked a local carpenter to make two of each. In addition, she had found several wooden baby toys to keep them entertained.
Now, the two little ones were sitting in their baby walkers. When they saw Song Shi and the others returning, they babbled excitedly and toddled over to Little Zhang, who was there to take care of them.
As they gazed at Shen Yu’an, a stranger who had been gone for a little over a week, they stopped and tilted their heads to look at her for a while before realizing who she was. Then, they hurriedly ran towards her.
Shen Yu’an quickly crouched down, catching the two little ones who were almost unable to stop their walkers.
She smiled and kissed each of them on the cheek, saying, “Did little Zhao Zhao and Xue Xue miss their big sister?”
By the way, the names of the two little ones have been decided.
The boy is named Shen Wenzhao, and the girl is named Shen Yuxue.
As Shen Yu’an spoke these names with a smile, it’s unclear if the two little ones understood, but they giggled and babbled happily, each giving Shen Yu’an a wet kiss.
Shen Yu’an’s cheeks were smeared with drool, and Little Zhang, still smiling, patted the heads of the two little ones and then wheeled their baby walkers inside.
Shen Yu’an’s grandmother also came out with a cloth in hand and, upon seeing Shen Yu’an’s return, smiled and ushered her inside.
“Tian Qiu just told me you were back. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen you, and it turns out you went to the paper mill.”
When all the members of the Shen family had returned, and the meal was served.
The Shen family used to require two large tables to accommodate everyone, but now, some had gone to the capital, some to the town, and others had left. Nowadays, only one table was needed to seat all the family members for their meal.
While they were eating, there came a commotion from outside.
It was the voices of Shen Yi and Shen Er, mixed with loud and abusive shouting.
Everyone put down their chopsticks, their expressions uneasy.
Because everyone recognized the voice of the person who was shouting and cursing, it was Aunt Pan.
However, the shouting and cursing were coming from beyond the courtyard, and there was no sign of her coming inside. It seemed that she had been stopped by someone outside.
After quietly listening for a moment, Shen Yu’an stood up.
It appeared that allowing her to shout outside wouldn’t make her leave voluntarily.
Shen Yu’an stood up, and Song Shi and her sisters-in-law followed suit and went outside.
Aunt Pan, who was outside the door, hadn’t even stepped inside the Shen family’s gate, but she seemed to have an unusual amount of strength, and the three of them could barely hold her back.
“My son didn’t steal your things. Give my son back!”
Aunt Pan was a mother who valued her son above all else, and it was only now, with Pan Hou in prison, that she came to the Shen family.
She thought that if the Shen family was willing to forgive her son, then there would be no reason for the authorities to keep him locked up.
So, she came to the Shen family to plead for her son’s release. However, she couldn’t even get past the gate before being stopped, which made her frustrated, and she started shouting in anger.
Seeing that the Shen family had finally come out, she began to cry and beg them to go to the county officials to release her son.
But after talking for a long time without any response from the Shen family, she began to vent her frustration with a string of harsh words.
The commotion on this side had grown so loud that it attracted nearby residents who weren’t too far away.
Shen Yu’an looked coldly at the furious Aunt Pan, her expression calm as she approached her and said, “While I can’t bring your son back, if you come here causing trouble again, I can make sure Pan Hou stays in prison forever.”
Aunt Pan’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Shen Yu’an, seemingly shocked by her words.
