After Li Yue’e left, the Eldest Princess sat on the blood sandalwood armchair and slowly closed her eyes.

On the night before she left the palace, the Empress Dowager had summoned her.

The Empress Dowager sighed. “You are a sensible child. Your parents sacrificed their lives to save the late emperor, a debt I will never forget. I have always treated you as my own. That is why I had no choice but to plead with His Majesty to allow you to go to Xisai.”

The Eldest Princess respectfully replied, “I understand Mother’s concerns.”

“Good child, it is a grievance for you.”

“I am not of royal blood, yet I shamelessly accepted the title of Eldest Princess and was even granted the fief of Xisai. Mother and His Majesty have already shown me great kindness. I am unworthy.”

The Empress Dowager waved her hand dismissively. “Let’s not speak of this. Right now, Prince Jing is stirring up trouble, and who knows what kind of mischief he may cause. You must be extra cautious when you reach Xisai.”

“Yes!”

“For now, avoid meeting Hui’er to prevent any unnecessary complications.”

“I understand. I take my leave.”
