When Fu Yushen learned that Yuan Xi had become one of Chen Yang’s signed artists, he couldn’t help but furrow his brows. He began to question whether the things Qi Yunrou had said were true.
Had his older brother really brought someone in as his assistant?
Fu Yushen stared at the documents in his hands, but he couldn’t focus on any of the content. His mind kept replaying the argument he had with Qi Yunrou.
After a few moments of blankly staring at the papers, Fu Yushen picked up his phone and sent a message to Yuan Xi, asking if the news was true.
Yuan Xi, who had long since pushed the male lead out of his thoughts, was momentarily stunned when he received the message. Before his brain could fully process it, he had already dialed Fu Yunzhou’s number and started rambling about the situation.
After listening to Yuan Xi’s explanation, Fu Yunzhou couldn’t help but laugh quietly to himself.
“So, you want him to stop paying attention to you?” Though Yuan Xi’s words were all over the place, Fu Yunzhou had managed to catch the main point.
“Yes, yes, yes! Please, don’t let the big CEO focus on me, this small employee! I really don’t want any interaction with him, nor do I want to have anything to do with that person!” Yuan Xi complained pitifully to Fu Yunzhou. “Male god, do you have any way to help me?”
Male god?
Fu Yunzhou raised an eyebrow, feeling a small sense of amusement. He tapped his fingers lightly on the table before chuckling softly.
“I’ll take care of this for you, so don’t worry.” Fu Yunzhou said, trying to reassure Yuan Xi. “I heard that Chen Yang has arranged a script for you. Just focus on preparing well and don’t embarrass your teacher.”
“Huh? How are you going to solve it? That’s Fu Yushen, the CEO of Xingyao Entertainment! Male god, don’t joke around! What if you lose your job over this?” Yuan Xi couldn’t help but start to worry after hearing Fu Yunzhou’s words.
Fu Yushen was the CEO of Xingyao Entertainment, and Fu Yunzhou was just a small manager. If Yuan Xi caused trouble with the CEO, wouldn’t Fu Yunzhou’s job be on the line too?!
Listening to Yuan Xi’s concern, Fu Yunzhou had to hold back his laughter, trying not to let his smile show too much, though his eyes couldn’t hide the amusement.
“Alright, don’t worry, I have it under control.” Fu Yunzhou reassured him. “Focus on preparing for your role. If you nail it, I’ll get you a gift.” As he finished speaking, there was a knock on his office door. “Alright, I have to go now. I’ll talk to you later.”
Yuan Xi stared at his phone, now disconnected, feeling anxious.
After hanging up, Fu Yunzhou immediately called his dear younger brother and gave him a stern reminder about the schedule. Once he had his brother’s assurance, Fu Yunzhou ended the call.
Meanwhile, Yuan Xi anxiously awaited, while Fu Yushen, the big CEO, slouched in his chair, looking utterly defeated, his expression one of total disinterest, like a tired dog.
“Seriously, what is my older brother up to? What kind of medicine did he take recently, focusing so much on Xingyao? Did he spot potential in them? But that doesn’t make sense. Xingyao is no different from before, and they haven’t produced any superstars lately.”
Puzzled, Fu Yushen fell deep into thought, pushing Yuan Xi’s situation to the back of his mind and instead burning his brain cells trying to figure out how to accomplish his dear older brother’s task.
Yuan Xi spent the entire day nervously waiting, and it wasn’t until he saw Fu Yunzhou return home safely in the evening that he finally sighed in relief.
Seeing Yuan Xi’s nervousness, Fu Yunzhou couldn’t help but mess up his hair playfully. “How’s the preparation going? Are you confident you’ll pass?”
Yuan Xi nodded, holding the script in his hands. Once Fu Yunzhou sat down, he handed him the script. “This is the script Brother Chen gave me. My character is Xia Xi.”
Fu Yunzhou took the script and briefly skimmed through its contents.
The script was for a modern drama, a sweet romance story. Yuan Xi’s character was the younger brother of the male lead. When they were children, their parents tragically died in a car accident, leaving the older brother to take care of his younger sibling.
At the time, they were too young to protect the wealth their parents had left behind. To protect his brother, the male lead began learning various skills from a young age.
The story unfolds when the male lead was about to graduate from university and meets the female lead, who was a younger student. They have an accidental encounter. The female lead comes from a wealthy family, has a lively personality, and falls for the male lead at first sight. She also provides significant support once the male lead starts working. Yuan Xi’s character was the male lead’s younger brother, and he dislikes the female lead because he fears she will steal his brother away—the person who has always protected him.
In the story, the younger brother’s presence creates much tension between the male and female leads, but his personality was not off-putting. Although he dislikes the female lead, he still comforts her when she was hurt or upset.
The younger brother in the drama was portrayed as a jealous child, afraid of losing his brother, which indirectly brings up the events that happened during their childhood.
Fu Yunzhou didn’t pay much attention to the plot; he mainly focused on the parts involving Xia Xi.
“This role is quite likable. If you land it, it will be great for your future development. While the script isn’t big, the director seems like a good person.”
Yuan Xi nodded eagerly, his face full of excitement. “Brother Chen said the same thing. I heard that the male and female leads in this drama are pretty talented. Maybe I can pick up some skills from them.”
Fu Yunzhou smiled. “If you can learn, then make sure to do it well. I’m looking forward to the day you become famous.”
“Mm!” Yuan Xi nodded vigorously. While he wasn’t particularly concerned about fame, if it made the male god happy, he’d work hard for it!
The interview was scheduled for 2 PM. Since Yuan Xi hadn’t found an assistant yet, all the arrangements were handled by Chen Yang, who stayed by his side.
When they arrived, the director glanced at Chen Yang and smiled. “Chen, even if you’re personally here, I won’t go easy on him.”
Chen Yang looked at Yuan Xi with a confident expression. “I know how you are, Director Yu, but I have full confidence in Yuan Xi. His acting might not be the best, but it’s certainly not bad enough to get kicked out by you.”
Director Yu Xinglong smiled, glancing at Yuan Xi with a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes.
Yuan Xi’s appearance was very obedient and suited the role of Xia Xi perfectly. If his acting was decent, the role would undoubtedly go to him.
Many people wanted the role of Xia Xi, but few matched both the looks and acting skills required.
Although Yuan Xi’s acting wasn’t top-notch, he was the only one whose appearance and skills were both on point. Especially with Chen Yang, his manager, backing him up, Director Yu ultimately chose Yuan Xi.
After successfully landing the role, the next step was to join the cast.
“Now that you’ve got the role, you’ll need to join the set in a few days. I’ll find you an assistant in the meantime. Feel free to contact me anytime if you need anything.”
While the plot of this modern drama wasn’t overly complicated, it would still take a significant amount of time to film. As Yuan Xi’s manager, Chen Yang didn’t have a lot of other artists to manage, but he couldn’t stay with Yuan Xi all the time either.
Yuan Xi nodded, feeling a bit nervous inside.
“Okay, I’ll make sure to do my best!”
Although Xia Xi’s role wasn’t large, when adding up all the scenes, it would roughly take about a month to finish. That night, after reporting to Fu Yunzhou, Yuan Xi couldn’t help but say a few more things.
“Even though I’ll be in the set for a month, you have to make sure to eat on time. Don’t drink coffee in the morning—you know your stomach isn’t great, so always have some stomach medicine ready. And if you need to work overtime, make sure Aunt Zhang sends you some homemade food. Takeout is convenient, but it’s not very healthy. Also, if I have time, I’ll give you a call, but if you’re busy, you don’t have to pick up.”
Yuan Xi rambled on for a while, but Fu Yunzhou didn’t show any sign of impatience. He listened attentively the entire time and occasionally nodded to show he was paying attention.
The time to join the cast finally arrived. Chen Yang brought a man and a woman to meet Yuan Xi.
The woman had a baby face and looked to be in her twenties. Her short hair was styled with bangs, and when she smiled, two sweet dimples appeared. Since Yuan Xi saw her, the woman’s face had been smiling the whole time.
The man was about 1.8 meters tall, looking around 26 or 27 years old. He had a strong build and appeared somewhat silent.
Yuan Xi glanced at the woman, then his gaze landed on the man’s arm. His well-defined muscles looked very solid, and his height of over 1.8 meters made Yuan Xi feel a little envious.
“Xiao Xi, these two will be your assistants from now on,” Chen Yang said, pointing to the pair. “This is Cheng Xiaoke, and this is Zhang Yan. They’ll be with you at the set. If you need anything, you can ask them.”
Yuan Xi nodded. “Hello, I’m Yuan Xi. I’ll be counting on you both.”
Cheng Xiaoke and Zhang Yan waved their hands. “No problem, it’s our job.”
After a brief introduction, Chen Yang tossed a car key to Zhang Yan. “It’s getting late, you two should head to the set. This is the car we’ve arranged for you. Zhang Yan will be not just your assistant, but also your driver.”
Yuan Xi was surprised, nodding as he grabbed his small suitcase and headed toward the garage.
Cheng Xiaoke grabbed the suitcase from Yuan Xi’s hands and walked ahead. “Brother Yuan, just leave it to me. Let’s go.”
Yuan Xi glanced at his empty hands and then at the girl, who was around 1.6 meters tall, holding the suitcase. He quickly stepped forward to take it back. “Give it to me, I can’t have you carrying it for me.”
However, despite saying that, Yuan Xi didn’t catch up to Cheng Xiaoke until they reached the garage.
Although Cheng Xiaoke didn’t seem to be walking fast, her pace was surprisingly quick. Yuan Xi, who had spaced out and created a gap between them, had to jog a little when he came to his senses in order to catch up.
By the time Yuan Xi caught up, they had already reached the car.
Looking at Cheng Xiaoke, who wasn’t even out of breath, Yuan Xi couldn’t help but glance down at his own legs, feeling a slight twinge of soreness.
The van that Chen Yang had arranged for Yuan Xi was spacious. Once inside, it was equipped with a small fridge and various necessary items.
The van could seat seven to eight people, so with just the three of them onboard, the space was more than enough. Yuan Xi could even lie down and sleep comfortably without any problem.
Thinking back to his past life, when he had to squeeze into a cramped, old van, Yuan Xi couldn’t help but feel a little sentimental. This was the benefit of having powerful connections!
