Chapter 37 1/2
To ensure fairness, all the phones used for guest livestreams were provided by the production team.
It’s unclear whether it was an issue with this batch of phones or Ou Zheng’s bad luck, but the phone assigned to him didn’t have a very high resolution—quite blurry, in fact.
However, for outdoor livestreams, a bit of blurriness was acceptable. As long as you could roughly see it, it was fine.
But at this moment, the audience, watching the slightly blurry but still discernible three-meter giants moving slowly, wished for super-clear pixels.
“What? Are these human beings?”
“I can’t believe it! Is that a palace behind them?”
“Is it an angle problem? Why do those soldiers look so tall?”
“The production team is really willing to spend money.”
“No, are those real people?”
“This has to be at least three or four meters tall, right?”
“666666”
“The production team has gone all out.”
At this moment, the audience hadn’t thought much about it; they just assumed it was all prepared by the production team.
From the screen, they could only see the vaguely palatial area behind them and the soldiers walking slowly in front with various weapons.
Their discussion was mainly about the soldiers appearing excessively tall, whether the production team had brought in exceptionally tall individuals, or if it was an issue with Ou Zheng’s phone camera angle.
It wasn’t until they heard Ou Zheng’s uncertain voice, “Wow, did the stingy production team secretly prepare such an amazing thing behind our backs? The soldiers in front look quite intimidating, haha.”
Most of the audience laughed along, but a small portion sensed that Ou Zheng lacked confidence and playfully commented:
“Ou Zheng is chickening out.”
“Ou Zheng is scared.”
“What’s there to be afraid of? Explore it!”
Ou Zheng did feel a bit uncertain; after all, the audience was watching the video, but he was on-site. Even though he was far away, just looking at the “white jade floor” beneath his feet, an unsettling feeling immediately surged up.
It was too real.
The production team had set up scenes before for shooting effects, but in comedic variety shows, a little deception was enough. For example, in the previous episode, everyone played roles like princes, princesses, kings, and queens, with a large castle as the backdrop.
How could it be like it is now, on such a large scale?
Even looking from a distance, it felt like it formed a small world of its own.
Does the production team have this much money to arrange all this? Ou Zheng’s doubts were quickly dispelled when he saw the enthusiastic encouragement from the audience in the live chat, asking him to explore.
After all, with so many viewers watching, even an ordinary person would muster up courage, let alone a variety show guest like him who needed topics and camera time.
“Alright! Let’s explore it!”
Ou Zheng quickly made up his mind, and his tone returned to its original lightness:
“To those calling me scared, try facing so many tall giants yourselves and see if you’re scared or not.”
“But these giants are covered in armor, and you can’t see their faces at all. They shouldn’t be real people. Where can you find such tall real people?”
“Watch and find out!”
“Explore it!”
“Explore it!”
Encouraged by the audience, Ou Zheng indeed approached the giants.
However, the closer he got, the more he felt that these giants… seemed overly realistic.
“Can you guys hear it? The rumbling sound they make walking on the ground—I can even feel the earth trembling slightly. I don’t know how tall they are, but they are definitely very heavy.”
As Ou Zheng got closer, he could see more details on the giants: “You might not see it clearly, but it seems like every soldier has a weapon. The one holding a big hammer, is that thing a real solid iron hammer?”
Indeed, the audience couldn’t see the details, but the blurry image intensified the realism of the giants. When the nearest giant lifted a huge iron hammer, creating a rumbling sound with each step, they were all amazed.
Before they could express their thoughts on how “real” it looked, the giant with the iron hammer suddenly stopped.
It slowly turned its head, facing towards the screen.
The next moment, it suddenly lifted the incredibly huge iron hammer, took a giant step with a tremor, and headed straight towards the screen.
Simultaneously, a strong sense of attack was accompanied by the deep and muffled growl of a beast.
When the colossal giant with the equally massive iron hammer moved rapidly towards the screen, the viewers, who were still discussing enthusiastically, were all frightened.
Then, they heard Ou Zheng exclaiming, “Damn!” The screen started shaking rapidly, accompanied by the hurried gasps produced by Ou Zheng’s rapid escape.
Clearly, he was running away.
The barrage paused for a second, then crazily flooded in.
“What’s going on?”
“Damn, something’s not right. Is that thing real or fake?”
“Did you guys see that just now? The giant on top seemed to have something movable commanding it.”
“I saw it; it looked like a little person with wings.”
“Did Ou Zheng just say ‘damn’? They need to edit that out.”
“The production team went all out.”
“I now start to doubt if this is the work of the production team.”
“I’m sure I didn’t see it wrong. There was a tiny person on top of the giant’s head.”
Although the pixels were somewhat blurry, at such a close distance and with so many people watching, some could discern many things, especially with Ou Zheng’s rapid escape, causing various things to flash by in the shaking footage.
“Just now, did something lift its head from behind? A turtle? Such a big turtle? It looks like it’s seven or eight meters tall.”
“Why are there things like jade pendants hanging from the trees?”
“A massive bird just flew by in the sky. Did you see it?”
“This place is really huge. The large things look so unreal.”
“Damn, I saw a phoenix.”
“These things look too real, don’t they?”
In a certain university dormitory, a student eating instant noodles while watching the livestream exclaimed, “Guys, quickly look, is this for real?”
In the urban area, a man watching the livestream on his tablet brushed off and sat up, opening his phone. “Bro, quickly go see the livestream I shared with you!”
At the same time, numerous viewers realized that something was amiss with this livestream. Some began recording, while others invited friends to join the spectacle.
When Ou Zheng finally stopped his escape, a considerable number of new viewers flooded into the livestream.
