Chapter 41
At the moment, it seemed that Jiang Zhen would be the one to boost her business the fastest.
Compared to the inexperienced others, he was already mature enough not to need much polishing.
Drinking lemon water, Shengquan watched Jiang Zhen, whose every movement on set was attention-grabbing. Unable to resist, she asked the driver, Jiang, behind her, “Jiang Ge, if you and him fought, who would win?”
The usually silent Jiang Lu glanced at Jiang Zhen and said, “I would win.”
After thinking for a moment, he added, “But he would fight more attractively.”
Shengquan wasn’t very surprised. After all, Jiang Zhen was a martial arts actor, and if every movement had overwhelming power, the actors in the scenes would end up miserable.
As for Jiang Lu, although she had only seen him take action once, it left a deep impression on her.
Jiang Lu didn’t move much, but each movement could be lethal.
Although she was already well-off, Shengquan hadn’t encountered any situations where she might be kidnapped. On the one hand, the state was strict on security, and on the other hand, it might be because Jiang Lu had preemptively avoided this possibility.
Shengquan loved to wander around, and every time she did, Jiang Lu silently followed behind her, planning routes in advance and eliminating all potentially dangerous places.
In a word: full of security.
After six months of hard work, Shengquan, who was now known as a wealthy entrepreneur, finally accumulated some savings. She could consider hiring a private bodyguard.
She had indeed enjoyed herself over the past six months, receiving top-notch treatment wherever she went. However, in terms of saving money… Well, let’s not talk about that.
Mainly, each sponsorship from Shengquan followed a long-term development path. This led to a situation where she had to wait a long time for profits, and each time, she almost always used her personal savings to support it (the film crew needed money).
Although the process was tortuous, the ending was beautiful. After half a year of effort, Shengquan finally awaited a profitable period. Even though she continued to invest funds (the film crew was expensive), it couldn’t be considered having an empty pocket.
Shengquan earnestly shared her thoughts with Jiang Lu:
“I not only want to hire you as my personal bodyguard for the long term but also want to hire you as a consultant in the new bodyguard company I’m opening. I know you know many retired soldiers, like the brothers who came to help last time.”
“This company will serve me and the artists under Starshine Entertainment. In the future, when it grows larger, it may be hired by other public figures. This is the tentative contract. Take a look first.”
After Shengquan finished speaking, the secretary handed over three contracts—one for Jiang Lu’s personal employment, one for the consulting agreement, and the last for a regular bodyguard.
Jiang Lu’s eyes showed a hint of surprise. He wasn’t surprised that Shengquan wanted to employ him personally; she had mentioned it to him before.
To be fair, Sheng Quan is a very good employer. She never orders him to do random things, always arranges a seat for him during meals, has a cheerful personality, stable emotions, and no bad habits. She can even be considered a health enthusiast.
She calls him Jiang Ge, invites him to watch dramas together, thanks him with a smile, gives him red envelopes, treats him to fruits, and sometimes, when she sees beautiful flowers and plants on the roadside, she surprises him by taking out her phone to take pictures.
Usually, during those times, Jiang Lu would silently slow down the car.
For some reason, seeing Sheng Quan so happy taking pictures would also relax his mood.
After working for so long since Jiang Lu’s discharge, the deepest lesson he learned was “play it safe.” He never actively interferes in the employer’s private matters because those who do often end up with unfavorable outcomes.
But Sheng Quan is truly a good person, not just as an employer but as a person.
So, during the last “Lin Aike perilous incident,” facing Sheng Quan’s first explosive anger, Jiang Lu also broke his own “rules” for the first time.
He was ready to follow Sheng Quan, but he didn’t expect her trust in him to be much greater than he anticipated.
It’s evident that this security company will be the greatest safeguard for Sheng Quan’s personal safety.
As an advisor, he is tasked with finding his own comrades, almost equivalent to the entire company relying on him. If it weren’t for trust, why would they give him full authority?
When Jiang Lu looked over with surprise, Sheng Quan cheered him on, “Do well.”
“Since the incident with Aike last time, I had this idea when we had supper together. I trust your judgment, and regarding the treatment, you can rest assured. Five insurances, one fund, meal allowance, transportation allowance, year-end bonus, and retirement pension, none of them will be missing.”
Last time?
Jiang Lu immediately understood why Sheng Quan asked him to find people. Obviously, after coming out of the police station last time, Sheng Quan heard their conversation, knowing the difficulties faced by these discharged soldiers in finding jobs, stuck in a dilemma of not being able to aim too high or too low.
She heard it, remembered it, and is now helping them.
Clearly, he was just a driver.
The man accustomed to being silent couldn’t explain what he felt at the moment. In the end, he could only muster a sentence:
“Miss Sheng, thank you.”
“You’re welcome. You’re so capable; it would be a waste not to make good use of it.”
Sheng Quan patted Jiang Lu’s shoulder. They were quite familiar now, and the shoulder could be patted.
It’s just a bit tiring to raise the hand.
Establishing a security company was inevitable. Although she knew that she didn’t have much money in her pocket (compared to her performance), in the eyes of others, she was very wealthy. And Sheng Quan was confident that she would become even wealthier in the future.
Leaving aside the continually increasing amount provided by the system, her development in this kind of capital was flourishing, making it highly possible for her to become the richest.
Sheng Quan is very confident about becoming extremely wealthy.
She could build her empire even with little money in her pocket. There was no reason why she couldn’t do it now, with abundant funds and loyal talents under her.
So, having complete control over her security system is very necessary.
Sheng Quan completely missed that, and while her thoughts wandered, Jiang Lu silently lowered his body slightly to relieve the fatigue in her arms.
***
When Jiang Lu resigned, the hotel staff was not surprised at all. It seemed that such guests being satisfied with their hotel-arranged personnel and subsequently privately employing them was not a first-time occurrence.
They were even proud of it, considering it an example of excellent hotel service.
Jiang Lu’s colleagues were both envious and surprised.
“Several guests wanted to hire you before, and you refused, saying you wouldn’t accept private employment. What’s different now?”
Jiang Lu didn’t have much to pack—just a simple backpack slung over his shoulder. Dressed neatly, his sharp facial features became even more prominent.
“Miss Sheng is different from the others.”
“How is she different? Have you forgotten about Ak’s boss taking him to fight, and he ended up in prison for a few years? We all work in this field of youth meals; can you serve her for a lifetime?”
Jiang Lu had already walked out when he heard this, and he paused slightly.
“Yes.”
Then he strode forward with long legs.
His colleagues were momentarily stunned before reacting: “Damn, he really intends to serve Miss Sheng for a lifetime.”
On that day, many people received calls from Jiang Lu.
“Instructor, is it true? Is there really such a good job? I’m coming! I must come!”
“Jiang Ge, I trust you. I’m packing my things.”
“Are you sure about a female bodyguard? Okay, I’ll buy a ticket immediately. If you really make it, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
On the day Sheng Quan gave Jiang Lu a day off, he made many phone calls. Many of these people hadn’t been in contact for a long time, but when Jiang Lu mentioned the company’s benefits, almost ninety percent immediately agreed.
In the end, he made the last call.
After he finished speaking, there was almost immediately a non-stop stream of complaints on the other end:
“You kid disappeared after retiring; the first thing you say to me is to become a bodyguard consultant. Not even a greeting.”
“You vanished without a trace; why hide even from me? How’s the injury? Does it still hurt on rainy days? Do you still have nightmares now?”
Thinking again about why Jiang Lu called him, the senior couldn’t help but nag:
“Why are you so stubborn? Being a bodyguard again? You were at the top among the top when you retired. How did you end up being just a bodyguard?”
“The river’s matter is not your fault. He sacrificed himself for the country. In that situation, you couldn’t save him. It’s a miracle that you survived, you know?”
Jiang Lu looked towards the sky and said, “Hmm, I know.”
“I don’t have nightmares anymore; I’m busy every day. My employer has a personality that loves to travel.”
“I’ve been to many places with her and met many people. She gave me a day off today, so I have time to call you guys.”
This might be the most he has said in the past few years, almost like a recovered patient sharing his progress with a doctor:
“The injury doesn’t hurt much on rainy days anymore. My employer arranges health check-ups for subordinates. Although I wasn’t officially her subordinate at that time, she still took me. I’m still undergoing treatment, and she even scheduled a psychologist for me. I tried it once, but I felt it was a waste of money. I’ve been trained before, and I can’t help but be defensive against psychologists.”
The voice on the other end of the phone stopped its nagging. The senior listened quietly as Jiang Lu talked about the trivialities of his daily life over the past half year, mentioning that he now sleeps well.
He talked about how his employer mistakenly thought he liked flowers and even specially gifted him a bouquet, saying that the flowers were very beautiful.
Jiang Lu talked for a long time, unilaterally.
The senior on the other end listened for a long time.
Finally, he said, “When you wanted to leave back then, I asked if you were sincerely leaving, and you said yes.”
“But now, I don’t need to ask if you sincerely want to be a security consultant.”
The senior seemed to sigh, as if finally relieved.
“Jiang Lu, I’m glad.”
“Being a security consultant and all, I’ll pass. We’re both quite old.”
“If there’s a chance, I’d like to meet your employer. You even thought of helping her recruit me. She must be a good person.”
After saying this, the senior suddenly remembered, “Oh, right, you’re a consultant too. How much is your salary?”
Jiang Lu stated the number and the benefits.
The senior on the other end: “…”
“I suddenly feel that it’s glorious to keep fighting until old age. I’m coming to meet our employer immediately. Give me the address.”
