“Hua Ling!”
A bright crimson stain seeped from Hua Ling’s clothing.
Hua Ling, now unconscious, lay quietly in Hua Nan’s arms, resembling a lifeless doll.
With a look of anger in his eyes, Hua Nan glanced in the direction where Hua Mei had fled and chose to bring Hua Ling back first.
As he entered the tribal village where he had lived for over a decade, Hua Nan could clearly feel the tension in the atmosphere.
“Who is it?!”
Soon, someone recognized Hua Nan, who was driving the carriage, and shouted in delight, “It’s the return of the Saintess!”
“Quick, go and inform the tribal chief and his wife!”
After a period of frantic activity, Hua Nan placed the injured Hua Ling on the bed.
Inside the room, apart from Hua Ji and Hua Yun, there was another woman from the clan skilled in medicine who was tending to the wound on Hua Ling’s back.
Throughout the process of treating Hua Ling, she remained calm, not showing the slightest hint of pain.
Worried, Hua Nan looked at the unresponsive Hua Ling and said, “Father, Mother, it seems that my sister was controlled by Hua Mei using gu insects, but I couldn’t identify which gu insect.”
Hua Ji had a solemn expression as he asked, “You encountered Hua Mei? Where did you meet her?”
Hua Nan recounted in detail everything that had happened in the dense forest.
After hearing the story, both Hua Ji and Hua Yun looked serious.
A few days ago, they had discovered that Hua Mei and the three elders had secretly brought people back to the clan as experimental subjects for refining gu.
It was fortunate that when the Shen family and others had left, Fei Yanchen had warned them to be cautious of Hua Mei.
At the time, they didn’t fully understand Fei Yanchen’s intentions, but they had kept a close eye on the situation.
After a period of investigation, they discovered that these two had been doing this for a while and were becoming increasingly audacious.
When disasters struck various regions in the past year, they seized the opportunity to capture refugees and use them as experimental subjects.
Now that the disasters have subsided, they have been targeting people in villages and towns.
Because they lost so many people in a short time, it attracted official attention, and the authorities have been conducting continuous searches.
Once Hua Ji and Hua Yun had gathered sufficient evidence, they led a group of people to surround the houses of the three elders and Hua Mei.
However, during the arrest, Hua Mei managed to escape.
Hua Ji and Hua Yun, along with the remaining clan members, made every effort to locate her, aiming to eliminate this threat.
But with limited resources within the clan, and some members influenced by the three elders and Hua Mei and therefore unavailable, they were apprehended and placed under guard.
Hua Yun said, “Based on Nan’s description, it seems that Hua Mei has escaped to the outside, and finding her again may not be easy.”
Hua Ji exchanged a glance with her and nodded solemnly.
The three elders had researched several nearly extinct gu arts, although they weren’t sure of the extent of their research.
As for what Hua Mei had learned from the three elders, they were also uncertain.
Therefore, with the enemy hidden and them exposed, the situation was highly disadvantageous for them.
But now that the situation was settled, their impatience was of no use. Hua Yun approached Hua Ling to examine her condition.
“Judging from the symptoms, it seems Ling has been affected by a gu insect that can control people’s behavior. However, this gu insect hasn’t fully matured, which is why she’s in this state,” she explained. She was able to identify the symptoms of a gu insect infestation after studying notes found in the gu room of the three elders.
The three elders had somehow found fragments from which they reconstructed gu arts that had long disappeared.
Hua Nan anxiously asked, “So, what can we do for my sister?”
Hua Yun shook her head and said, “The notes we obtained from the three elders haven’t been destroyed yet. I’ll study them in detail before making a decision.”
