The situation at the Hua family was tense, and since the return of Hua Nan and Hua Ling, they had been too occupied. It had been quite some time before they remembered to send a message to the Shen family.
Meanwhile, Shen Yu’an, who was still in Longxian Village, had no knowledge of the situation there. The local county examination had been underway for three days.
Shen Rong, Mr. Ji, and the others had taken Shen Daling and a few others to the capital to participate in the county examination. In his free time, Shen Yu’an would go up the mountain.
One reason was to check on the progress of ore mining and the production of weapons by the craftsmen.
The other reason was to help Fei Yanchen supervise the training of the soldiers on the mountain, ensuring they were not slacking off.
On this day, Shen Yu’an, as usual, first went to the mine. However, before she could get close, she saw a somewhat familiar figure in the distance.
Why does that figure look so much like Ah’Chen?
Shen Yu’an soon confirmed her suspicions.
The figure, which she found somewhat familiar, turned around as if he sensed something, and indeed, it was the long-unseen Fei Yanchen.
Fei Yanchen had originally felt someone assessing him, his aura spread out, causing him to furrow his brows and look behind. However, he was met with the sight of the person he had been thinking about daily.
His expression instantly went from cloudy to bright, and Fei Yanchen warmly smiled, reaching out his hand to Shen Yu’an. “An’An, I’m back.”
Shen Yu’an looked at Fei Yanchen with delight.
Unbeknownst to her, Fei Yanchen had already secured a significant place in her heart. After such a long time apart, it was clear that she missed him, considering they frequently communicated.
Now, seeing the living Fei Yanchen in front of her, Shen Yu’an immediately ran over in excitement.
“When did you return?” Shen Yu’an asked.
Fei Yanchen reached out to smooth down Shen Yu’an’s hair, which was blown by the wind, and whispered, “Just the time it takes to brew a cup of tea.”
His gentle demeanor surprised the person who had been reporting things to him with great respect just moments ago. However, when they saw that Fei Yanchen treated Shen Yu’an differently, it didn’t seem so strange.
Shen Yu’an had long since become acquainted with everyone here.
Whether it was the people who had been here before or those who were later assigned, they all knew that anyone could be crossed, except Shen Yu’an.
This was because Shen Yu’an was the person their master held dear.
The curious onlooker cast a few more glances at the unusually gentle Fei Yanchen but withdrew with a “sensible” look after receiving a cold stare.
After the others left, Shen Yu’an finally asked the question on her mind, “Didn’t you say in your letter that you were heading to the western region? Why are you here?”
Fei Yanchen replied, “There are some matters to attend to here as well, and it just so happens that I can come and see you.”
Hearing Fei Yanchen’s straightforward words, Shen Yu’an’s cheeks turned slightly red, and she felt even more delighted.
Fei Yanchen continued, “I can’t stay here for long; I need to rush to the western region before my father and the others arrive.”
Shen Yu’an felt a bit disappointed and said, “Then hurry up.”
Fei Yanchen, observing Shen Yu’an’s lack of enthusiasm, held her hand and led her back to the camp.
“When things calm down, I won’t be separated from you again.”
Hearing this, Shen Yu’an looked up at Fei Yanchen, wondering what he meant by “when things calm down.”
Fei Yanchen noticed her confusion but didn’t explain further. Instead, he began to talk about the events of the past few days.
They had left the capital quickly, so they hadn’t faced any interference. However, shortly after leaving, they received news that the Fourth Prince and his men, aware of their departure, had sent waves of assassins after them.
Fei Yanchen had even spotted the Fourth Prince’s trail.
The Fourth Prince’s people were determined not to let the Wuding family return to the Western region alive, thinking that if they couldn’t have them, then no one would.
Fortunately, their journey had been relatively uneventful, and they were well-prepared. The guards accompanying them had been honed on the battlefield, and everyone made it safely.
Fei Yanchen had considered that once they entered the Western region, finding time to see Shen Yu’an again might be difficult. That’s why he had taken a detour and come here in secret.
