Yuan Hanshuang didn’t realize someone was following her.
Just a moment ago, she was collecting money on the playground until her hands were sore, when suddenly her communicator notified her of a community message.
—Her father had gotten into a conflict at the tavern and sent the other person to the hospital with his bare hands. The other person’s family reported him to the police, and he was detained at the police station.
Upon seeing the message, Yuan Hanshuang became extremely anxious. She rarely raised her hand to hail a hovercar, heading straight for the police station.
Two years ago, the Third Legion of the Empire established a military base on Planet 1999, greatly reducing the crime rate on this remote planet. Illicit transactions in the dark alleys disappeared overnight, and even the fighting arena rarely saw any fatalities in the past two years.
Occasionally, soldiers from the Third Legion would help out at the police station. So the people in the dark alleys were as obedient as rabbits, afraid of causing any trouble.
“My father has a good temperament. He would never pick a fight for no reason.”
When Yuan Hanshuang was young, she had heard others insulting her father’s disfigured appearance, calling him derogatory names like “retard” and “ugly freak.” But her father never got angry, especially not in a work setting.
There must be something fishy about today’s incident.
Unbeknownst to her, Gu, who was secretly following behind, was taken aback and quickly imitated her, “Follow the car in front!”
After a swift ride, Yuan Hanshuang got out of the hovercar at the entrance of the police station and rushed inside as if flying.
The police station was one of the most magnificent buildings on Planet 1999, decorated with shimmering space silver on all sides. People constantly came and went, processing various procedures.
She ran to the front desk and said, “Hello, I’m here to find a detained family member named Pai Daxing.”
“Oh, let me check… Pai Daxing, case number F01927884, public fight.”
The police officer put on glasses and searched on the screen, “F-level case, administrative fine of 500 star coins.”
F-level cases were the lowest level of offenses, and once the fine was paid, the person could be released.
Yuan Hanshuang breathed a sigh of relief and handed over her own card.
After deducting 500 star coins, the police officer pointed to the back, “In the F section, show the payment receipt to the staff, and they will release the person.”
The F section was behind the police station, where steel detention containers were built. Some of the cells were occupied, but most of them were empty.
After receiving the receipt, the police officer brought the person out.
Her father was wearing a security guard uniform, with several swollen patches on his face and bloody scratches on his fists. He looked particularly disheveled.
When Yuan Hanshuang saw him, she could hardly believe her eyes, “Dad!”
Separated by the thick iron door, the tall man saw her and suddenly behaved like a guilty child, blinking his eyes and lowering his head, resembling a big dog, his scarred face becoming even more ferocious.
“Wait, don’t rush to take him away.”
The police officer waved his hand, “Come here for blood samples, fingerprints, and photos. If he repeats the offense, it won’t be as simple as paying a fine. It starts with a three-day detention, up to fifteen days.”
This was to establish a criminal record.
While her father went through the procedures, Yuan Hanshuang frowned, “Since it was a fight, what about the other person?”
“There’s no other person, he started it.”
“That’s impossible.”
Yuan Hanshuang frowned, “My dad wouldn’t randomly attack someone.”
“How would I know?” The police officer grew impatient. “The person who was beaten is in the hospital, and it was his family who helped with the statement.”
“And besides, can you guarantee that your father with his low intelligence won’t harm someone without reason?”
Yuan Hanshuang wanted to say something else, but a commotion broke out at the entrance of the police station.
An Imperial military hovercar stopped at the entrance, and everyone around avoided it.
“Alright, alright, finish the paperwork and go back quickly.”
The security officer quickly removed the restraint ring from his father’s neck, saying, “There’s another inspection from above. It wouldn’t be good if they question us after the restraints are taken off. Our planet’s crime rate has just recently decreased…”
Not sure if it’s a misconception, Yuan Hanshuang seemed to spot a familiar figure in the crowd.
The person, who had never done anything guilty from childhood to adulthood, was caught off guard, met Yuan Hanshuang’s gaze for a moment, blushed instantly, remained silent, and turned and ran.
Yuan Hanshuang found it strange, “What is Young Master Gu doing here?”
Meanwhile, Wei Wenwei, who had just descended from the hovercar, frowned. His gaze swept through the dense crowd like a hawk, carefully examining each face.
The soldiers quickly looked at their leader.
Unfortunately, the crowd at the entrance of the police station was too dense, making that brief glance almost like an illusion.
Wei Wenwei didn’t speak. He suddenly strode forward, and his military boots made a heavy sound on the cold, smooth ground. “Retrieve all the detention records and criminal files from here.”
“Y-yes!”
The front desk security officer was frightened and quickly operated on the holographic screen.
Wei Wenwei adjusted his mechanical manifestation with a skill of his own, activating it. His eyes, now a deep inorganic blue, took only a few seconds to read through thousands of files on the screen. “Is this all?”
“Yes, they’re all here, Major.” The security officer suddenly remembered something and added, “There are still cases of F and E levels that haven’t been pulled out, but the number of these cases is too large, so it may take some time.”
“No need.” Wei Wenwei waved his hand wearily.
It was well known that F-level cases were trivial matters—mostly stolen robot parts, mysteriously missing limited edition figurines displayed in cabinets, or reports of men going out bare-chested and affecting the planet’s appearance. On a small planet like the 1999 Star, hundreds of such cases could happen in a day. Even with his mimicry ability, it would take forever to investigate.
“Old Wei, what’s going on?” another officer asked.
“Nothing, perhaps I made a mistake.”
Wei Wenwei frowned, rubbing his temples, “It’s just… if it’s really him, how could he casually leave records in a remote police station, let alone appear openly? I might be mistaken.”
The universe’s only SSS-level fugitive, Haidong Qing, was classified as extremely dangerous by the military. His strength had reached the Saint tier ten years ago, but whether he had touched the legendary realm in the following years remained unknown.
Such top-tier dangerous individuals were beyond the law, not constrained by anything. They couldn’t be found despite the efforts, and there was no way they would be associated with a police station meant to restrain ordinary people.
After realizing this, Wei Wenwei ordered in a low voice, “Let’s go, start patrolling.”
“Yes!”
Few people knew why the Imperial Legion suddenly stationed itself on this remote planet.
Only the high-ranking officers sent here were aware. The Third Legion was carrying out a secret mission in this nearby galaxy, and the content of the mission was related to the treason that shocked the entire interstellar space ten years ago.
Ten years ago, hailed as the Empire’s star of the future, the hero Haidong Qing, who had made significant contributions during the insect tide, betrayed humanity and the Empire. Alongside his wife, the third princess of the Empire, he stole the sacred object worshipped in the Luminous Temple for thousands of years, colluded with the insect race, and turned against humans and the Empire.
The news caused a complete shutdown of the entire star network, becoming a sensational event.
