Chapter 14: What Comes Next?
Zhao Jiaying held Yang Xiuhua’s hand as they walked toward the car, then said: “Auntie, don’t tell Mommy about my coming here to Daddy’s house for now. Please keep it a secret!”
Yang Xiuhua was confused, her mind filled with question marks.
“Why can’t you tell Mommy? Finding your real daddy is a good thing, isn’t it? Why hide it?”
“Auntie, I have my reasons for doing this. Just keep it a secret, please!”
Zhao Jiaying had always been a determined child, and since she didn’t want to say more, Yang Xiuhua didn’t press the issue. She simply agreed to her request.
“Alright, Auntie understands. I will definitely keep your secret!”
“Thank you, Auntie!”
Zhao Jiaying knew for sure that Yang Xiuhua would keep her secret.
“Yingbao, be sure to listen well here. When you have time, give Auntie a video call… Ah! Auntie will head back now, and I’ll come visit you when I have time!”
“Okay, Yingbao understands. Goodbye, Auntie!”
Zhao Jiaying watched as Yang Xiuhua left, not turning back until the car had completely disappeared from her sight. Only then did she head back into the villa.
Once inside, Zhao Jiaying lowered her head, looking dejected. Lin Zhenzhu noticed her mood and became concerned.
“Yingbao, what’s wrong? You were so happy earlier, but now you look upset. Are you feeling sad about Auntie Xiuhua leaving?”
Zhao Jiaying nodded, pouting, and said sadly: “Great-grandma, Auntie Xiuhua wouldn’t accept your money, so she and Uncle Dahai will still have a hard time. When Yingbao thinks about how hard their lives are, it makes me feel really sad!”
Apart from Mommy Zhao Yunxi, Yang Xiuhua’s family was the closest to Zhao Jiaying. Now that she had found her biological daddy and was living a good life, her family was still struggling. When she thought about this, Zhao Jiaying felt very sad and upset.
This child, so young, yet so thoughtful, Lin Zhenzhu couldn’t help but feel a little heartbroken. She pulled her into her arms and comforted her.
“Yingbao, you’re still just a child. You shouldn’t worry about adult matters. At your age, you should be happy every day, carefree, living an innocent childhood, do you understand? As for your Auntie Xiuhua’s situation, you don’t need to worry about it anymore. Great-grandma has said that if she wants to help, she will. Since she refuses to accept the money, we’ll find another way to help her. We won’t let them continue living this hard life!”
There were many ways to help people, and it didn’t necessarily have to be through money.
“Great-grandma, is that true?” Zhao Jiaying looked at Lin Zhenzhu with her big, beautiful eyes.
“Of course it’s true. I will tell your daddy about this, and your daddy will handle it. So from now on, don’t think about it anymore. You don’t need to worry and frown all day. It makes Great-grandma feel sad, and I’ll get upset too!”
Speaking of which, it was most appropriate for Ou Zichen to handle this matter. After all, someone had taken care of his daughter for such a long time. This kindness should be repaid by him, her biological daddy.
Once the issue with Yang Xiuhua’s family was resolved, Zhao Jiaying would have nothing to worry about and could naturally live a happy life.
So she responded: “Great-grandma, I promise I’ll always be happy from now on, and I won’t make Great-grandma worry!”
“That’s my good great-grandson! Alright, now it’s nap time. Go upstairs and take a nap. Great-grandma is also tired and needs to go back to her bedroom to sleep for a while!”
With that, the grandmother and grandson each went back to their respective bedrooms to sleep.
Around six in the evening, Ou Zichen and Ou Zilong returned home from work. Zhao Jiaying sweetly called out: “Daddy, Second Uncle, you’re back!”
Ou Zichen immediately picked up Zhao Jiaying and gently asked: “Have you been good and listened at home? Did you miss Daddy?”
Zhao Jiaying answered: “Not really!”
“Not really?”
Hearing this, Ou Zichen felt a little disappointed. He had been unable to accept the paternity test results when he first saw them that morning, but he soon came to terms with it. He thought that having a cute and adorable daughter was indeed a very happy thing. He had thought about Yingbao all day at work, and yet now she told him she hadn’t missed him!
Zhao Jiaying suddenly pouted and said in a sweet, childish voice: “Daddy, I didn’t finish what I was saying, and you interrupted me. That’s very rude!”
Not finished? What else was there to say?
“Alright, go ahead. Daddy won’t interrupt you this time!”
Ou Zichen immediately became a quiet listener.
“Just now when Yingbao said ‘not really’, I actually wanted to say: not really, but I really miss Daddy! Yingbao misses Daddy so much!”
Ou Zichen’s heart instantly bloomed with joy, a smile spreading across his face. It turned out he had been teased by his own daughter, and surprisingly, he found this feeling quite nice.
Ou Zilong also joined in, asking Zhao Jiaying: “What about Second Uncle? Did Yingbao miss Second Uncle today?”
“No!” Zhao Jiaying answered decisively.
“What about the rest?”
Ou Zilong thought, like with Ou Zichen earlier, there would be more to the conversation, but instead…
“There’s nothing else to say!”
Zhao Jiaying delivered a heavy blow to Ou Zilong!
Ou Zilong, not giving up, continued to ask: “Why does your Daddy have something, but Second Uncle doesn’t?”
“Because Second Uncle has different women thinking about him, but Daddy only has Yingbao thinking about him, so Yingbao doesn’t think about Second Uncle!”
That was it! Zhao Jiaying had indeed been influenced by what she had heard that morning about “Second Uncle being kissed by different women.” but now it had changed to Second Uncle being “thought about by different women.”
Ou Zilong looked at Ou Zichen with some resentment and said: “Old bro, it’s all your fault. You’ve ruined my reputation!”
Ou Zichen completely ignored him, picking up Zhao Jiaying and walking towards the dining room.
After dinner, Lin Zhenzhu and Ou Zichen went to the study. Lin Zhenzhu then explained Yang Xiuhua’s situation to him in detail. After hearing it, Ou Zichen immediately understood what Lin Zhenzhu meant.
“Grandmother, don’t worry! I know what to do. I’ll arrange a position for Sun Dahai at Ou Corporation and have him start working there!”
“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime!” Instead of giving them money, it would be better to offer them a good job, where they could earn a living through their own work. This way, others would feel more comfortable accepting the help. Giving money freely could feel like charity, which others might not want to accept.
“Also, I’ll arrange a comfortable apartment for them in Downtown, under the company’s name. The place they’re living in now isn’t great, and the traffic isn’t very convenient. Once their child is out of the hospital, they’ll need to go to school, and living in Downtown will be much more convenient!”
Lin Zhenzhu had thought this through carefully, even considering their housing and the child’s education. She believed that if they were going to help, they should help completely. This way, Zhao Jiaying’s wish would also be fulfilled.
“Don’t worry, grandmother. I’ll take care of everything!”
After their conversation, the grandmother and grandson went downstairs together and walked into the living room, where they saw the following scene.
