Song Yize looked at Ning Xi, his expression not very pleasant.
Ning Xi was still smiling, his bright eyes looked flirtatious.
Two handsome guys stood face-to-face at the classroom door, with a ‘you look at me I look at you’ in silence. It was too eye-catching.
Students passing by from the classroom behind them couldn’t help but glance back at them.
Song Yize had no idea how to respond to him.
Just then, an arm hooked around Song Yize’s neck from behind. Zhang Qiang’s head popped out as he said to Ning Xi, “Sorry, but Ze-ge already agreed to eat with us.”
Ning Xi looked at Zhang Qiang, who appeared out of nowhere, and clapped his hands. “Ah, it’s you ya! Thanks for helping me return something last time. My name is Ning Xi. Can I ask what yours is?”
Zhang Qiang was instantly stuck.
What’s going on? This little Omega seemed way too obedient and well-mannered.
He had assumed Ning Xi would be some clingy little greasy monster but he turned out to be soft and sweet instead.
Zhang Qiang immediately let go of Song Yize and adjusted his expression before saying, “Ah, hello, hello. I’m Zhang Qiang, Song Yize’s classmate. So your name is Ning Xi? That’s such a nice name ai. Can I call you Xiao Ning from now on? Or how about Xi’er?”
Ning Xi’s smile twitched. “W-whatever you want ah.”
Song Yize’s face darkened a bit more. He shot a particularly serious look at Zhang Qiang, his sharp eyes tinged with coldness. He even clicked his tongue lightly.
Zhang Qiang shuddered. Even as an Alpha, he could feel the faint yet chilling ebony wood pheromones, carrying a threatening undertone, pressing down on him.
Zhang Qiang stood up straight with a “su”.
Ning Xi didn’t notice anything off and continued, “Then, can I come with you guys? I haven’t had breakfast at the school cafeteria before. Can you take me there?”
Zhang Qiang wanted to agree, but the icy-cold statue beside him was a little too scary.
He swallowed and asked, “Ze-ge, what do you think…”
Ning Xi turned to look at Song Yize again, his narrow double eyelids slightly upturned, his beautiful eyes carrying a clear and pure light.
Song Yize felt uneasy under that gaze. After a moment of silence, he sighed and said, “Alright.”
—
Xian Chang No.1 High School was indeed quite large, with two cafeterias—one near the senior-year teaching building and another near the sophomore and freshman teaching building.
The walk to the cafeteria was a bit of a distance, requiring them to pass through a tree-lined path.
The soft morning light filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting dappled shadows onto the asphalt road. The depth of the forest reveals its shadows—was a phrase that made perfect sense here.
The cafeteria wasn’t too crowded. Without the sophomores and freshmen joining in, it still felt quite empty.
Zhang Qiang and Ren Siyu were determined to get xiaolongbao, dragging Song Yize to line up at Window No. 2.
Ning Xi wasn’t too picky. He simply went to the shortest line to get his food as quickly as possible.
Zhang Qiang and the other two successfully bought their xiaolongbao and happily found an empty seat.
Placing his tray on the table, Zhang Qiang said with satisfaction, “Ah, this is great, this is great. I managed to get the last portion. I thought I wouldn’t make it in time.”
Ren Siyu sat across from Song Yize and said to Zhang Qiang, “Your luck only seems to work in situations like this. You should pray harder to guess correctly on your exams instead. I heard from Deng Xuhai that your science composite score barely passed 230 this time.”
“Hey, let’s not bring up depressing topics while eating.” Zhang Qiang picked up a xiaolongbao and popped it into his mouth, his face full of happiness. “Next time, next time, I’ll definitely work harder, alright?”
Song Yize watched them chatting so happily but suddenly realized that Ning Xi, who had come with them, hadn’t sat down with him.
With so many people in the cafeteria, could they have gotten separated…
Just as Song Yize was about to ask if anyone had seen Ning Xi, a tray was placed beside him, and that beautiful person sat down.
“Ya, sorry, sorry. There were so many people, it took me a while to find you.” Ning Xi was naturally sociable, settling in beside Song Yize with ease.
Ren Siyu was momentarily stunned when she saw Ning Xi. Wasn’t this the Omega who returned Yize’s school uniform the other day?
Noticing Ren Siyu sitting there, Ning Xi smiled and said, “Hello, I’m Ning Xi.”
Ren Siyu was visibly a bit reserved. Biting her chopsticks, she replied, “Hello, I’m Ren Siyu.”
Ning Xi was the same as always. In front of him was a bowl of plain porridge and a youtiao[1]Fried dough stick.—just an ordinary breakfast.
To be honest, how could a picky and refined young master enjoy something so simple? If it weren’t for the need to grab breakfast quickly, he wouldn’t have chosen this.
After being rejected for a hug by Song Yize’s cold face last night, Ning Xi had deliberately asked Hu Yangcai in the dorm about Song Yize’s general situation at school.
Hu Yangcai was really stupid—he was convinced that Ning Xi was Song Yize’s boyfriend and thought he was just checking in on things while he wasn’t around. So, he eagerly spilled all the little bits of gossip he had seen, heard, and known.
For example, Song Yize liked to drink red date, wolfberry, and soy milk.
When Ning Xi first heard this, he couldn’t help but wonder—how could Song Yize’s tastes be so elderly?
But he still went and bought it this morning.
Ning Xi placed the soy milk in front of Song Yize, flashing a bright smile. “This is for you.”
Song Yize stared at the red date and wolfberry soy milk in front of him, wondering where this kid had heard about his preferences.
He was about to refuse when he saw Ning Xi place a bottle in front of Ren Siyu and Zhang Qiang as well, saying, “Here, this is for you guys.”
Zhang Qiang was a simple-minded person. He took the soy milk gratefully and said, “Ya, thank you ah, Xi’er!”
Even Ren Siyu, who was at the side, also said “Thank you.”
Song Yize couldn’t refuse now.
Ning Xi said, “No need to be so polite. Ai, you’re all having xiaolongbao? They look really good ai.”
Hearing someone praise his xiaolongbao, Zhang Qiang immediately perked up. “Yes! They’re really delicious! I think they’re the best breakfast item in the cafeteria. Do you want to try one?”
But as soon as he said that, he regretted it—because sitting diagonally across from him, Song Yize was staring at him with a dark expression.
Zhang Qiang struggled to swallow the food in his mouth and said, “But… I’m an Alpha and you’re an Omega, that’s not very good…”
Not very appropriate? Since when did physiology class teach that AOs couldn’t eat the same food?
Zhang Qiang himself often shared a bag of chips with his Omega friends.
But something about Song Yize seemed really off this morning. And sitting next to him was the Omega who had worn his jacket.
This atmosphere was really off ah.
Ren Siyu had been holding back for a while now. She was incredibly curious about what kind of relationship Song Yize and this boy had.
If they were a couple or at least in some ambiguous phase, should she tell this Omega that Ze-ge had put suppression patches on other Omegas before ah?
Finally, Ren Siyu asked, “Um… Ning Xi, what’s your relationship with Yize ah?”
Afraid that the question sounded too abrupt, she hurriedly added, “I know you just transferred here, but I didn’t expect you to be so familiar with Yize. Did you know each other before?”
Ning Xi had just taken a sip of his porridge and found it rather bland.
Hearing Ren Siyu’s question, he thought it was the perfect opportunity to refute the rumors about them being boyfriends.
So, he casually threw an arm around Song Yize’s shoulder and, with a righteous expression, declared, “Us? We’re good brothers ya!”
Ren Siyu: “?”
Zhang Qiang: “?”
Song Yize: “…”
Ning Xi cheered in his heart.
Yeah! Physical contact la!
After saying that, he even excitedly patted Song Yize’s arm and grinned. “Right!”
Song Yize was at a complete loss for words. After a long pause, he barely managed to squeeze out, “Stop messing around. Eat.”
Ren Siyu and Zhang Qiang sat across from them, completely stunned.
Because although God Ze’s expression remained calm, the tips of his ears had turned red.
There was no way they’d believe these two had nothing going on ah.
Was this… some kind of couple’s dynamic?
Ren Siyu was now thoroughly heartbroken.
She dejectedly pushed her xiaolongbao toward Zhang Qiang and muttered, “I can’t eat anymore. You take them.”
Zhang Qiang said, “Alright then, wasting food is shameful. I’ll help you finish it.”
Ning Xi looked at this bland breakfast and really didn’t want to eat anymore.
The porridge was too watery, the pickled vegetables had a strange taste, and the youtiao was excessively greasy—just two bites in, and he already felt sick of it.
As he stirred his porridge, he made a mental note to never line up at Window 8 again.
Noticing Ning Xi, Song Yize asked, “Why aren’t you eating?”
Ning Xi lowered his gaze, his long, thick eyelashes casting shadows over his eyes. “I don’t want to. Your school’s breakfast isn’t great.”
He poked at the youtiao with his chopsticks, feeling like oil was about to splatter from it.
“You’re eating too little. You won’t have the energy to focus in class,” Song Yize said indifferently.
Ning Xi thought about it and realized he had a point. Since he had transmigrated into this world, he definitely shouldn’t mistreat himself.
But when he turned around, he found that most of the food at the breakfast windows had already been sold out.
Just as he was feeling regretful, a beef pancake was placed onto his tray.
Ning Xi stared at the unexpected pancake, then looked up at Song Yize in surprise.
That guy’s expression was incredibly indifferent with no waves or even emotion.
Yet when he spoke, every word, every sentence proved that he was a genuinely good person: “Eat this first. It’ll pad your stomach.”
