Chapter 102: President Lin’s Pregnant Husband
In the blink of an eye, a month had passed.
Lin Zhizhi had been pregnant for more than three months, nearly four.
She had already moved past the early stages of pregnancy, and the fetus had reached a relatively stable phase, having developed into a more defined form.
However, Lin Zhizhi’s belly was still not very noticeable, with no significant external changes.
The doctor had explained that this was normal. Most pregnant women’s bellies would start to show a slight bulge around the fourth month, but this varied from person to person.
If the expectant mother was naturally slim, it would be even harder to tell.
In the early stages of pregnancy, Lin Zhizhi had not experienced any of the typical symptoms that most pregnant women did, such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or acid reflux.
However, as she neared the three-month mark, these symptoms suddenly appeared.
Her appetite plummeted, and even the fish she once loved became unbearable to her. Just the mere smell of it made her want to vomit.
For the sake of her health and the baby’s well-being, Lin Zhizhi forced herself to eat a little, but soon after, she would rush to the restroom and throw it all up.
Lu Yi watched helplessly from the side, feeling so distressed that he wished he could take her place and bear the pregnancy himself.
All he could do was prepare various kinds of delicious food for Lin Zhizhi. Even if she only took one bite of each, at least after trying everything, she would have eaten something.
Fortunately, as time went on, Lin Zhizhi’s symptoms gradually eased.
The nausea and vomiting became less frequent, but her cravings and appetite preferences became increasingly unpredictable—just like the whims of the heavens, impossible to guess.
Sometimes, she craved sour foods so acidic that they could soften her teeth. Other times, she wanted something so spicy that it would make her tear up.
Even the timing of her cravings was unpredictable. She could suddenly wake up in the middle of the night, feeling unbearably hungry and wanting a specific food.
If she didn’t get it, she would feel uneasy and unable to sleep. No matter how late it was, Lu Yi would always get up without complaint and go out to buy food for her.
Each time, when Lin Zhizhi saw Lu Yi being woken up in the middle of the night, his eyelids barely lifting before he instinctively wrapped his arms around her and gently comforted her, she felt guilty. But the moment he fully woke up, he would patiently listen to what she wanted to eat, then, after soothing her, he would casually put on some clothes and head out.
Watching Lu Yi’s hurried figure as he left, Lin Zhizhi often wondered if she was being too much. She tried to reflect on herself, but at the same time, she felt that she was being utterly spoiled by Lu Yi. He indulged her completely, never complaining, as if he found joy in fulfilling her every request.
Gradually, Lin Zhizhi no longer saw it as anything unusual and became increasingly dependent on Lu Yi.
However, Lu Yi remained deeply concerned about Lin Zhizhi’s health. After all, Lin Zhizhi was naturally slender. At first, when she didn’t experience any pregnancy symptoms, it wasn’t a big issue. Even though she hadn’t gained much weight, at least Lu Yi had personally seen her eat, even if he wasn’t quite sure where all the food had gone.
But now, Lin Zhizhi’s appetite had dropped to less than half of what it used to be. Lu Yi didn’t dare show his worry on his face, afraid it would affect Lin Zhizhi’s mood and make her anxious as well.
So, he quietly hid in the study to call Lin Zhizhi’s attending physician.
That day, Lin Zhizhi happened to have a craving for something but was feeling too lazy to go out herself, so she planned to ask Lu Yi to buy it for her. As she walked toward the study, she noticed that the door wasn’t fully closed. Through the small gap, she could see Lu Yi standing by the window, his back turned to her, speaking on the phone.
She was about to leave and come back later when she suddenly heard Lu Yi ask the person on the other end: “Doctor, my wife still looks quite frail. Could it be that all her nutrition is being absorbed by the baby?”
The doctor on the other end was probably reassuring him, explaining things patiently.
Then, Lin Zhizhi clearly heard Lu Yi hesitate for a moment before voicing his deepest worry: “Doctor… it’s not that I don’t trust you, but I really can’t stop worrying. To be honest, at night when we sleep, I keep checking if my wife is still breathing. I’m really afraid that the little food she manages to eat isn’t enough for both her and the baby.”
This time, the doctor probably didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh at Lu Yi’s persistence.
Hearing Lu Yi’s anxious voice laced with urgency: “Hello? Did you hang up? Can you still hear me? Don’t tell me I was right?!”
Lu Yi didn’t hear a response from the doctor, so he brought the phone in front of him to check if the call had been disconnected.
After confirming the call was still ongoing, he quickly put the phone back to his ear and called out again: “Hello? Doctor! Did you run out of phone credit? Do you need me to top it up for you?”
Watching this completely flustered version of Lu Yi—so unlike his usual calm, composed self—Lin Zhizhi felt both helpless and amused.
But deep inside, she also felt something indescribably soft, like her heart was swelling and full, both sore and warm at the same time. An overwhelming sense of contentment washed over her.
Last time, Zhou Tiantian had jokingly warned Lin Zhizhi to be careful, saying that pregnancy could make her “lose her mind for three years.”
Now, as Lin Zhizhi looked at Lu Yi in the study, she wasn’t sure if she had become any duller from pregnancy—but as someone who wasn’t even pregnant, Lu Yi certainly seemed on the verge of losing his mind.
Later, just when Lin Zhizhi felt like she was going to be completely drained from the relentless nausea and vomiting, something miraculous happened.
At that time, Lu Yi had been so distressed watching Lin Zhizhi suffer from morning sickness that he wished he could experience it in her place. Then, one morning, as they were having breakfast—carefully prepared by Lu Yi—Lin Zhizhi’s nausea suddenly disappeared.
Her appetite returned, and she ate heartily, as if she hadn’t been the one vomiting uncontrollably just the night before.
Lu Yi was overjoyed, watching Lin Zhizhi eat the meal he had cooked with such enthusiasm. He finally felt like he had made something that didn’t make her feel sick.
Seeing that Lu Yi was only staring at her, Lin Zhizhi continued eating hurriedly, fearing that the nausea might return at any moment. She gestured for Lu Yi to get himself a bowl as well.
However, just as Lu Yi was about to take a bite, he suddenly felt a wave of nausea hit him. Without warning, he shot up from his seat and dashed toward the restroom, dry heaving over the toilet.
Lin Zhizhi, worried, followed him and saw that he was retching just like she had been before.
She quickly patted his back gently and asked: “Are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?”
Lu Yi quickly composed himself, suppressing the discomfort. He reassured her in a soft voice: “I’m fine. I probably just caught a slight chill.”
Seeing that Lu Yi didn’t seem to be in serious discomfort, Lin Zhizhi relaxed. Then, an amusing thought crossed her mind, and she teased: “That’s good. But honestly, the way you were throwing up just now—I almost thought you were experiencing morning sickness.”
Lu Yi chuckled helplessly. “What are you thinking? I wanted to take on the nausea for you, but I’d need the right biological function for that.”
As he spoke, he instinctively reached out to ruffle Lin Zhizhi’s hair. But the next second, he suddenly turned back to the toilet and started retching again.
Lin Zhizhi was completely at a loss. As she continued to comfort Lu Yi, she couldn’t help but secretly wonder—could this really be morning sickness?
Over the next few days, her suspicions were completely confirmed.
Lin Zhizhi’s morning sickness disappeared entirely, and her appetite was fully restored.
But Lu Yi, on the other hand, seemed to have taken over all her pregnancy symptoms—except for the fact that the baby wasn’t in his belly.
The nausea, the vomiting, the discomfort—Lu Yi was experiencing it all.
And so, Lin Zhizhi embarked on a brief journey of taking care of her “pregnant husband.”
