Even without Su Yu, she and Zhang Qin could still build a prosperous family legacy for their young son.
“Did you see him?” Zhang Qin asked Gu Jing.
Gu Jing nodded silently, “Yes, I did see him.”
“Is he doing well?” Zhang Qin asked anxiously.
“As the eldest son of the Prince’s Royal Mansion, he couldn’t be better,” Gu Jing replied. The thought of the child looking at her with unfamiliar eyes made Gu Jing feel irritated.
Initially, she thought the child was pretending, but this encounter made her believe that Xiao Zhi had truly forgotten everything from before.
“He doesn’t recognize me.”
“He told me his name is Su Zhixiao,” Gu Jing said calmly, though her heart ached.
Zhang Qin looked at Gu Jing with a wry smile and said, “The Prince had warned us before. It was your own choice.”
“I thought such things didn’t exist.” She had thought it was just a fabrication, but it turned out to be true.
“He mentioned that it was created by the apprentice of a divine healer,” Zhang Qin said with a bitter smile.
“The princess called for you…”
Gu Jing’s expression darkened at this, but she still recounted the situation to Zhang Qin.
After hearing it, Zhang Qin’s last hope faded away.
With a bitter smile, he said, “Indeed, we are not qualified.”
Once a choice is made, there should be no regrets. This was what Su Yu had told them at the time.
A year had passed, and with only two years remaining, they probably wouldn’t have another chance.
Wang Jinhe was right; they shouldn’t have disturbed Xiao Zhi.
Just the thought of Xiao Zhi’s confusion and helplessness at the time made Zhang Qin feel a sense of panic.
He even dared not appear in front of Xiao Zhi, feeling a tinge of regret. If he had stopped Gu Jing back then, would things have turned out differently?
Seeing his demeanor, Gu Jing felt a bit displeased. “Are you regretting it?”
Zhang Qin looked at Gu Jing and said, “I do regret it.”
“For whom am I doing all this? He has the royal mansion to rely on, while our young son has nothing. Have you forgotten what he said back then?”
“If he hadn’t been so ungrateful, would I have done this?” Gu Jing still believed that Xiao Zhi was too unappreciative.
Why not share with his brother when he is his own brother?
What’s wrong with giving the adoptive father to his brother?
Isn’t it natural for older brothers to give in to their younger brothers? It’s a matter of course.
But he not only failed to do so, but also spoke ill of his brother in front of Su Yu and the others.
All of this was his own fault.
Seeing Gu Jing in such a hysterical state, Zhang Qin suddenly fell silent.
He understood why Wang Jinhe had warned them.
He felt that this was for the best.
“That’s it,” Zhang Qin said wearily.
“What do you mean?”
“If you don’t want to lose everything we have, if you don’t want our child to have nothing in the future, then stay away from Xiao Zhi. Don’t say anything unpleasant. I believe what the princess said is true. If there’s a next time, she will truly deal with us,” Zhang Qin said to Gu Jing, each word carefully enunciated.
“Don’t think everything is fine just because the prince is not around.” In fact, Zhang Qin had never told Gu Jing that if they chose Xiao Zhi, they would gain even more.
If he did, Gu Jing might become even more frantic.
It’s better to let it go.
With a soft sigh, Zhang Qin suddenly felt uneasy. At that moment, he realized that he had truly lost Xiao Zhi as a son.
All because of his wife’s greed.
But it’s for the best.
Xiao Zhi, who had forgotten everything, was living a happy life, and that was enough.
Fortunately, Wang Jinhe was unaware of Zhang Qin’s thoughts. If she knew, she would probably find it laughable, and nothing more.
After playing at a friend’s house all day, Xiao Zhi and Xiao Bao returned home. Xiao Zhi approached Wang Jinhe and said, “Mommy, there was a strange person on the street today who said I was Zhang Zhilin.”
“Do you think you are?”
Xiao Zhi remained silent for a moment before shaking his head and saying, “I’m not. My name is Su Zhixiao.”
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile, “You don’t need to pay attention to such words. They won’t appear in front of you again in the future.”
Listening to Wang Jinhe’s reassurance, Xiao Zhi understood that he was taken seriously by that person. However, the discomfort in his heart made him subconsciously furrow his brow.
“What are you thinking about, brother?” Xiao Bao curiously asked as she approached Xiao Zhi.
Xiao Zhi smiled and shook his head, “I’m not thinking about anything. I just don’t like that person. It makes me uncomfortable to see her.”
“Then don’t think about it. Mommy said we won’t see that person again, so we definitely won’t,” Xiao Bao comforted Xiao Zhi.
Xiao Zhi nodded with a smile, “You’re right.”
“After playing all day, aren’t you tired? Go take a bath and come out for dinner later. Mommy will make delicious food for you both,” Wang Jinhe said.
“Okay.”
After the two children left, the smile on Wang Jinhe’s face gradually faded, and she sighed softly, “Even though he has forgotten the past, Xiao Zhi still instinctively feels uncomfortable around certain people.”
Qiu Yi’s dislike towards Gu Jing was evident, “It’s outrageous that she appears in front of the young master, especially after choosing this path herself and saying such things.”
Seeing Qiu Yi’s reaction, Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but smile, “You’re right, it is indeed outrageous.”
Confused, Qiu Yi looked at Wang Jinhe, not understanding why she suddenly found it amusing.
“What’s so funny, Miss?”
Wang Jinhe shook her head with a smile, “Nothing, I just find you quite adorable at times.”
“Go and do your tasks.”
“Yes.”
Ever since she decided to deal with Wang Jinhe, Gu Xiruo had been looking for an opportunity. After learning about the grievances between Gu Jing and Wang Jinhe, she had a plan in mind.
Approaching Gu Jing with a slight smirk, she said, “No matter what, we are both part of the Gu family. Are you truly willing to let Wang Jinhe take your son away?”
Narrowing her eyes, Gu Jing looked at Gu Xiruo, “What are you trying to say?”
‘This person approaching me definitely has ulterior motives.’ She thought.
“It’s nothing. I just feel sorry that your son was taken away like that. Would you like to cooperate with me? I can help you get your son back,” Gu Xiruo said temptingly to Gu Jing.
However, Gu Xiruo had miscalculated this time.
“No need. Our affairs don’t concern you,” Gu Jing replied. While she might not know everything about the situation between Gu Xiruo and Wang Jinhe, she knew enough.
She could sense that Gu Xiruo had malicious intentions, and she couldn’t think of any other reason for her sudden proposal.
“Gu Xiruo, who you want to deal with is your own business. But if you think you can drag me down and manipulate me to go against Wang Jinhe, you can forget about it.”
Frowning, Gu Xiruo looked at Gu Jing, “Are you really willing to watch your son call another woman mother? To not recognize you?”
“What does it have to do with you?” Gu Jing was not buying into Gu Xiruo’s tactics.
If she wanted to sow discord, she would have to see if she was capable of doing so.
